And let the games begin.

The 8:00 (EST) closings are usually the bellwether for them to start calling certain states. The only "big boys" in play at 8, though, are Florida... but that'll be a long time before it's called.... and Virginia, where I'd have thought there'd be more Republican support, but apparently is considered a safe state for Obama.

Florida? Where'd I get that information? I must've been rolling a cursor over the map and read it wrong. Scratch that.... but Ohio's in play now as of 8:30 and so's North Carolina. Popular vote is stacking up in Obama's favor.... and it's beginning to look like the prognosticators are right... Big Night For Barack!

I'm watching the BBC, but they have Christopher Hitchens as a commentator.

If anyone could recommend a live feed (I am currently using a good computer) that doesn't have Christopher Hitchens on it in any way, then that might remove the fly from the honey.
What is the matter here, DR A? Are there no pubs near where you live?

Fox News projecting Ohio for Obama

NBC apparently concur.

Were people having trouble with the CNN coverage? I've been getting it fine, but this forum's been down all morning.

One question: why is North Dakota considered a "battleground state" when it has only three electoral college votes? I would have thought Ohio and Florida would have been more critical.

Fox News projecting Ohio to Obama

And so's MSNBC. With almost 200,000 plurality they should... and thus Florida shouldn't be far behind.... They've already counted more than half the state and the Obama plurality is also nearing 200 K. Add those 27 Electors and then it's over.... California's a shoo-in, so anyone keeping a tally should just automatically add +55 to Obama's count from the outset. (Oh, and a +4 for Hawaii, too.)

Battleground state is any state where either candidate has a realistic chance of winning.
But I agree, the pickings in North Dakota for Presendential candidates are slim, although It is a fun state to visit.

There are no pubs open near to where I am now, which is not where I live, but if they were and it was, they probably wouldn't be showing the news, nor indeed have televisions.

However, Hitchens has gone now, and Obama took Ohio, so I'm good.

There is some completely insane wingnut **** as one of their commentators now, but I don't mind that. But when it's Hitchens I feel I ought to apologize for him.

The last time I saw anything from Florida it was +4 for Obama. Any change?

My condolences.

Well, politics does attract that sort.

It's the always charming John Bolton ;)

Obama takes New Mexico

CNN just joined the Ohio for Obama camp.
If this holds, it's pretty much a done deal for Obama.

I'm so on the edge of my seat. And I know it probably won't be decided for hours yet, but this is such an imporant election that will affect the entire world. Please America, don't screw it up.

So far my back-of-the-envelope calculations based on the CNN site shows Obama wiith a significant chance of taking the election. But it all depends on California. Texas is a shoe-in for McCain, but my impression is that California's more likely to go Obama. If that's the case, then I think Obama has the election.

Last I saw Obama's still slightly ahead... although at this point having been projected to win Ohio... if it pans out I don't have a reason to waste my time staying up to see the results. The west coast is almost a given to Obama... I think the results are self explanatory.

Looks like I'll wake up in the morning disappointed if this continues...

California is an absolute lock for Obama, The Reps have more chance of losing AZ than winning CA.
