Velda City. I don't know the precinct. They had only one small room, so they set up, I think, one touch screen and only 2 privacy screens for paper ballots. (I don't know why local news keeps reporting those as "voting machines".) They also weren't allowing people to fill out the scantron paper ballots except in the "booths"--until someone pointed out that the rules allow people to vote out where they can be seen if they so choose. After people waited 5 hours plus in the afternoon, the right people were contacted, and the mayor of Velda City let them use a second room. They eventually got additional poll workers too.

I heard there were long lines in the afternoon in Dellwood as well.

ETA: These are both in North St. Louis County.

I can't say I know the place, I thought maybe I would.

Any problems in St Louis itself?

Don't count NC in the Obama column. It's a tough state and the plurality has been slipping for the last hour. Obama's got about a 16K lead, and that's very small.

Virginia may take until 3 a.m. to call... ditto Indiana... They're both reporting over 80% of the precincts but the plurality (VA = Obama +10K and IN = McCain +12K) is very close.

Neither of them matter - he's home like the ABs 50 up against Samoa.

The only question now is how many he wins by and whether I have to have a bad avatar for 10 days or SezMe does!

Now a million votes in front in the grand total, a number only to get wider as the big urban totals come in. Hmm, wonder who they'll favour?

Oh, my bad, so it is, thanks. I must have misheard.

I've never heard of him before, but he's an idiot.

He was on question time a while ago, an absolute thug of a man.

Now David Frum....I might cry.

In lighter news, that BBC reporter looked drunk.

Velda City is nearly all black. I'd be surprised if those votes didn't come in above 95% Obama. I just heard on another news station that the wait was as much as 7 hours, and that some people were effectively disenfranchised because they couldn't wait that long.

Any problems in St Louis itself?
There were very long lines (about an hour wait) in the morning rush, but things ran very smoothly otherwise. I was planning to entertain people here waiting in line (wish I'd known about Velda City!) for the late rush, but it never happened. At my polling place, they had it set up so that maybe 100 people could work on filling out their paper ballots at the same time. Even when the lines were long, they were moving.

From what I heard from the local Obama HQ, things were about the same all over the City.

That's good to know. I always watch out for the Missouri/St. Louis results after living there a short time (during the last election coincedentally)

Florida is a lock at this point for Obama and has been since about 9 eastern but for some reason the networks will not call it. There is just not enough votes left for McCain to catch up. The medium size counties that McCain needed turnout did not show up and Obama either virtually tied or kept the spread down.

And the rain of frogs, don't forget the rain of frogs.

I live in Sacramento, and I can promise you that the reason Obama spent a minimum of time in California (just enough to keep us from feeling ignored) is because he did not need to. The whole Mainland West Coast...California,Washington, Oregon, will go for Obama.

There is no doubt that Obama is the next president. We're just trying to calculate how high the rubble bounces. The math is easy. The US West Coast is a lock, and there are 83 Electoral Votes there (87 if you count Hawaii).

Anyone needing sleep can go get some. Even without FL, NC, or VA, Obama's won. (And they're going to call Colorado for him soon, I think.)

Lets us just say that since what happened in 2000 with their projections, I think all the news networks look at calling Florida the same way you look a t a rattlesnake in your path.

Ah, you can keep your Brit pundits! We've got Oprah! On ABC, she just said that the energy has been so incredible, and that "I haven't seen this sort of unity since 911...."

Really, Oprah? 52% to 48%? Unity?

I didn't meet any of the 48% of the USA who were divided on 9/11/01.

I understand that but it is ridiculous how cautious they are. At this point all of the counties that could help McCain have reported their results the only places left are 50/50 counties and Obama counties.

Take Oprah. Please. :D

She has done more to promote pseudoscience than any other celebrity.
