This thread could be about any number of people, but the one that inspires this thread is Michael Goldfarb, who McCain has out trying to scare Jews.

Interview with CNN's Rick Sanchez:


SANCHEZ: Now, is the -- I need to parse this out as best I can from you, Michael. The fact that John McCain's organization gave $448,000 to this group that was founded by Mr. Khalidi, is there no reason for some to be critical of that as well just as some might be critical of Barack Obama for being at a meeting with some girl read a poem for example?

GOLDFARB: Look. You are missing the point again, Rick. The point is that Barack Obama has a long track record of being around anti-Semitic, anti-Israel and anti-American rhetoric.

SANCHEZ: Can you name one other person besides Khalidi who he hangs around who is anti-Semitic?

GOLDFARB: Yes, he pals around with William Ayers.

SANCHEZ: No, no, the question I asked you is that can you name one other person who he hangs around with who is anti-Semitic? Because that's what you said.

GOLDFARB: Look, we all know there are people who Barack Obama has been in hot water--

SANCHEZ: Michael, I asked you the name one person. One.

GOLDFARB: Rick --

SANCHEZ: You said he hangs around with people who are anti-Semitic. Okay. We got Khalidi on the table. Give me number two. Who is the other anti-Semitic person that he hangs around with that we, quote, all know about?

GOLDFARB: Rick, we both know who number two is.

SANCHEZ: Who?

GOLDFARB: ...

SANCHEZ: Would you tell us?

GOLDFARB: No, Rick, I think we all know who we are talking about here.

SANCHEZ: Somebody who is anti-Semitic that he hangs around with?

GOLDFARB: Absolutely.

SANCHEZ: Well, say it.

GOLDFARB: I think we know who we're talking about, Rick.

SANCHEZ: All right, all right, again you charge that Khalidi is anti-Semitic. He would say that his policies on Israel differ from Barack Obama and many other people, but either way, I guess we'll have to leave it at that.

sadly this is really nothing new. McCain's as jsut about all of the republicans running for the last 10-15 yeara have done nothing but I'll lower your taxes the the Dem is a
- fill in the scare de jour - . No plans, no agenda.

Who cares? The guy was obviously just making word salad. The whole point of mentioning, but not really mentioning (wink-wink), this supposed other anti-Semite is to get the media to start going to the Obama campaign asking a bunch of questions about it ("Just who is this 'mysterious anti-Semite' inside the Obama camp?"). It's meant to throw Obama of message with yet another unjustified smear.

Fortunately, that anchor at CNN shut this clown down pretty fast. When you refuse to answer one simple question, it's pretty obvious that you're a cynically manipulative douchebag. I think much of the media is getting tired of being taken for gullible idiots, and it is showing in the manner in which they've been interviewing people (from both sides).

Yeah. When I saw the clip I thought about what it says about McCain's "No-Wright" policy in the last couple days of the campaign. Will they draw that card finally?

Sound's like Goldfarb wants to bring him up, but can't.

If they're going to bring up "you-know-who (nudge-nudge, wink-wink)" they may as well just name him. Aren't they kind of signaling that they don't think this is a legitimate issue?

But at this point I think it would only add to the image of scraping to bottom of the barrel.

It would beg new questions: why did you consider this issue off-limits in the first place, and why is it legitimate now? Because you are desperate?

If I remember, McCain said Wright was not an issue so one of his surrogates cannot mention the unmentionable without disobeying his boss so he makes a fool of himself instead. Good job.

You are right, it's not logical, it's politics. I think it's a matter of what they call "optics." Wright is kooky, but he's also a symbol of the black church, and a veteran (former marine). You can rationalize it, but in politics appearances and optics matter more than rationales. It would appear more like he's making race an issue if he goes after Wright than if he goes after Ayers.

For me, with my European glasses on, he's kooky in the same way many US preachers are. I can't see he's a racist, an anti-Semite, unpatriotic or what have you. I also think, not to touch Wright has to do with the puzzling importance of religion in the US. Finally, Obama settled it for me with his Mar-18 speech, which is actually one of the best I've ever heard.

This aspect of US politics is the most confusing for Europeans, I believe. A campaign like McCain's would be completely unacceptable to mainstream Europe. We tend to focus on the classical political issues, rather than picking on politicians. Religion is regarded as a private affair. And the Ayers item sounds preposterous. If this is the "best" the US can bring forward as a "domestic terrorist", look into

That's two days in a row that Goldfarb has been hung out on national tv. The other night on Donnie Deutsch, he was going on about Obama "redistributing the wealth" and how McCain was trying to protect housing prices and keep people in their homes. Another guest asks, "Isn't what McCain doing redistributing the wealth, too? He wants to take money from people who pay taxes and give it to money who can't afford their homes."

ZING!

Instead of addressing it, he says, "The point is, Obama's economic plan is the wrong thing to do in a recession..."

No, clown, the point is YOU accused Obama of "redistributing the wealth" while your boss wants to do the same thing. So you changed the subject. And don't think we didn't notice.
