Final Debate Thread

so CNN is running truth watch on McCains mortgage plan. Nothing but the same old McCain. First it was Savings and loans. Now he wants govt to go buy the bad loans AT FULL value causing ZERO loss to all the slime bag mortgage companies at tax payers expense. HURAY for small govt and America first!

The idea that nuclear power should be safe is extremism now? Well color me radical.

There have been times when yes that appears to have been an extreamist opinion. See "Cockcroft's Folly" ( a filter that reduced the damage at the Windscale fire but was somewhat mocked at the time).

The start up capital cost per megawatt on a brand new reactor is enormous and it takes a decade, if not more to design and construct a new nuclear facility.

Calder Hall was built in rather less time. You could probably build magnox based designs in about 5 years but unless you wish to increase your plutonium stockpiles I doubt you would do so.

Well, we NEED to have a breeder cycle unless we want to move to Thorium plants due to the limitations of the Uranium supply.

But the big issue is that we lack the industrial capacity to make reactor vessels for large plants. We've shut down too much of our steel and heavy manufacturing to do it here. The countries who CAN do it don't have the EXCESS capacity to make very many of them for us over what they are already committed to make. SO we need to build thousands of SMALL reactors if we want to move ahead with this.

He should be proud of the people who come to his rallies, whats your point?
I see absolutely no point at all when all the information is taken in context.

So are you saying that Mccain has not condemned people at rallies who spoke blatant harmful lies about Obama?

Yes..
or
No...

If you agree he has then why wasnt Obama able to extend him the same courtesy when asked for it. Like i said showed Obama character that he wasnt able. It was a simple thing to do and wouldnt have hurt him in the slightest. Would have made him look more like a man!

If you claim he hasnt then you just arent informed.

It took McCain a week or more of inciting violence amongst those crowds, SAYING NOTHING, for (after pressure from others, along with a failure of the tactic to work) him to finally begin to ask his audience to stop. Now I am glad he did, but to get on with some ******** that McCain has been noble and free of guilt is completely ridiculous.

Johnny sewed the seeds of anger, and discontent, and then he had to reap them.

As for Obama "refusing" to reciprocate, well where did Obama say he would not? His failure to address it may have been to avoid getting further into the mud, or to avoid having to ask McCain for examples of things said at his rallies...who knows.

I do know that when they Boo at McCain's name at Obama rallies, he tells them to tone it down.

The DIFFERENCE HERE, is that Obama IS NOT/WAS NOT intentionally stoking the crowd, intentionally flaming the fires of anger and hatred, LIKE MCCAIN AND PALIN WERE.

TAM:)

Seeing this picture (undoctored?) and having looked at both candidates closely throughout the debate, I cannot understand how 'dubalb' and others protested at the depiction of McCain as looking like a corpse! To me he looked like a cornered rat, frightened eyes, forced smile, stuttering, falling over words,syllables....YIKES! not at all presidential!

The photo is real, however, it is very out of context. As the candidates were leaving the stage, McCain began to follow Obama, then apparently realized that he was supposed to walk around the table on the other side, And he made a goofy self-deprecating gesture. It was not aimed at Obama.

If you'd like to see how it really happened, watch the video and skip to about 4:20.

No, no, no, lets not be bias and stupid about whats going on. I am totally against Mccain winning but im always honest to myself and others.
You will find if you look plenty of videos of John Mccain correcting people at his rallies who say terrible things about Obama. Last video i seen was of a women with the Microphone stating that "Obama is a terrorist". Mccain quickly grabbed the Mic said thats enough from you and told her off. He spoke very highly of Obama and condemned all the terrible things people in the crowd would chant or say.
Obama tonight when asked to do the same thing in return for John Mccain refused to do so, and i find that appalling. Shows that he has terrible character, but maybe thats just me.

As much as i hate Mccain i must admit that tonight he totally destroyed Obama debate wise. He won this hands down and i cant for the life of me see why anyone would say Obama did anything correct. Obama avoided directly answering anything (which annoys me the most) and the whole night was using his elegant tone and speech to slip through answering important issues.

What a poor showing for a man i was going to support. Now im back on the undecided voters list.

Possibly because i missed the end of the debate i have a different perspective, but i cant see how my opinion would have been swayed in the second half. Tomorrow i will watch the rest.

(my bolding)

Let’s put how honest you are to the test…

Please link a video of the bolded part above, the footage I saw that most closely matches what you describe is a woman claiming that Obama is … an Arab, not a terrorist… McCain did stop here at that point, but did not tell her off, he said ..“he is not an Arab, but a decent family man…” Hardly telling her off, and rather insulting to Middle Eastern men with families.

Please find the video of the interaction you described above, then we can discuss the rest of your post.

If there is no video, then everyone can just assume the rest of your post is a fabrication as well.

My main impression of McCain from this debate is simply that he does not listen. There were many points which Obama made about his own platform, only to have McCain state that Obama said the opposite. Obama even called him out on it regarding the fine for small businesses who do not provide healthcare to employees. He said "Zero, because as I said in our last debate and I'll repeat, John, I exempt small businesses from the requirement for large businesses that can afford to provide health care to their employees, but are not doing it." McCain looked shocked.

And, best example yet, OVERHEAD PROJECTOR!!!! Was he really completely ignorant of the outcry the last time he said this??

McCain obviously had several tongue slips after the debate:

He just didn't look presidential at all after the debate.

Yes, context is everything. That said, it is still a damned funny photo. I feel bad for John McCain - this will be all over the Internet with all manner of snarky captions by day's end. Oh, teh hilarity :D

Well, that's good ... I was worried that David Icke was right all along and that McCain was morphing into his True Reptilian Form.

I was already voting Obama. But if I had been undecided....

OVERHEAD PROJECTOR!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!

WTF?!?

Srsly, d00d?!?

P.S: Captions, anyone?

The Photo is getting rapidly popular over at DIGG's top ten:

This pic would have been even worse (or even more fun), had McCain been looking directly ahead (at Obama) when he made that face.
