Demented Truther Heckles "Left Gatekeeper" Amy Goodman

This is my video edit of an insane truther heckling leftist journalist Amy Goodman of Democracy Now. The leftist audience who came out to honor Goodman (see below) was not amused.

Though not recent, this confrontation was of interest to me for two reasons. (1) It shows the antipathy of most of the left to the Truth Movement and (2) the truther is especially crazed and agitated in his behavior even by truther standards.

(Interestingly, the “don’t tase me, bro” incident happened a few months later at another Florida university.)

The 3rd Annual Progressive Celebration with guest speaker AMY GOODMAN was hosted by the Space Coast Progressive Alliance and co-sponsored by public radio WFIT 89.5FM, on Saturday, February 10, 2007, at Gleason Center for Performing Arts, Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Florida.

A sold-out, full house audience of 500 people gave Amy a standing ovation of appreciation -- twice: once when she was introduced, and again upon conclusion of her speech.

Noticed she was about to answer his question the first time around and he interrupted her to continue yelling at her...

Here's Kevin Barrett last year talking to her, of course about WTC7, the truther running gag.

She tried to respond but the truther would not STFU. This was during her speech, not at the Q&A at the end. I edited the original video and you can view it at the link below for comparison.

She was much more patient with him then most sane people would be.

That said, these guys must realize they are a bunch of paranoid losers, when THAT crowds shuts them up and shouts them down.

I don't like the way she keeps dodging them by saying "I don't know" or "the investigation was not complete". She really should go right ahead and call them crackpots and move on to her real preoccupations.

Why would the truthers attack someone who is giving them so much exposure and lending them her support by joining in their calls for a new investigation (as per Pardallis' video)?

Maybe she agrees with them? Or maybe she is pandering to her audience? Or maybe she just sees them as one more weapon against the US government?

If she agrees with them, why didn't she say so?

It's not like Amy Goodman is a friend of Republicans. Hell, she was on Penn and Teller's BS about the Patriot Act.

The truth movement will not be satisfied until leftists like Goodman sign up as 100% card carrying truthers and they want to subsume the anti-war movement into the truth movement.

Most leftists, on the hand, believe the truth movement is “politically insane” (as the audience member in the video said) and don’t want anything do with it.

As much as they detest Bush and the Iraq war, the left has the sense not to believe Bush would be behind anything as insane cold-blooded murder of U.S. civilians on U.S. soil.

I have more respect for the guy in the audience than Goodman, who keeps avoiding them. Although I liked her "you don't tell me what to say" retort.

This is how she should have handled that idiot:

IIRC Amy Goodman wants a more thorough investigation about the supposed cover up of gov't and military incompetance, not anything to do with bombs in the buildings, thermite, faked planes and Pentagon flyovers. Others, such as Quintere also want more inverstigation done on certain specifics. The apoplectic TM in the video is just insensed that people like Goodman will not swallow the insanity of the movement. He'd probably yell at Quintere as well.

She hates the neo-con political stance yet does not let that cloud her mind so much as to see insane conspiracy in every detail unlike the bulk of the 'truth movement'.

That is certainly one way to handle it.

Goodman however is more willing to interact with anyone who disagrees with her while Hitchens, although willing to debate with persons with an intelligent arguement, is completely unwilling to suffer fools glady.

Goodman really got her back up when the guy demanded that she call 911 an inside job. Her , "I don't tell you what to say, you don't tell me what to say" retort is one that both the left and the right would agree on.

The videos illustrate quite well that the TM is neither a leftist or rightist movement.

Beautiful specimen of critical thinking...

It does illustrate one thing, however, that we saw most clearly with the "Don't Taze Me Bro!" imbecile. These people are looking for a fight. They're not there to learn, to ask questions, to help develop their views. They want a fight, and nothing else. That's how they look to gain publicity, possibly respect of their equally befuddled peers, validation for their paranoia.

Sooner or later, someone is going to slip up and give it to them, but this is absolutely the wrong thing to do. Ignore them, treat them with indifference, and they fade into frustrated obscurity. Fight them, and they think it's actually a contest.

There's a lesson in there for this Forum, I'm sure, but buggered if I can figure it out. ;)

Definitely. She certainly deserved the applause and acclamation.

Darn, I was hoping that video of Goodman and the nutbar was another case of:
DONT TAZE ME BRO!

INHO the way both Goodman and Hitchens handled the crackpots are different, but valid, ways to deal with them. The only way that Hitchens' style will work is if one immediatly tells them that you do not wish to disvuss their crackpot ideas.
Goodman at first tried to engage the heckler at which point it is too late to then say you do not want to address his subject. Had the nutbar allowed her to make a point rather than yell over her with the bullhorn, he might have gotten somehwere as far as a discussion goes.

qft!

Obviously the reason the Hitchens' style will not work in this forum is that members who post on the subforum have already decided to engage the TM in debate. If one choses to adopt the style of ignoring the crackpots then one should be no more than a lurker here. If a crackpot were to post on another subforum of the JREF fora then by all means tell the crackpot that it will not be discussed there.

(Though calling them crackpot Nazis may contravene forum decorum)

I think it illustrates another thing - something I've brought up in the past when these type of videos surface...

Where is all of the public support for these truthers? Truthers love to point at polls that show a large portion of the population believes the 9/11 conspiracy nonsense. When one of these crackpots raises these questions, where are the supporters in the audience who applaud him? Where are the people who stand up with them when they get escorted out? Why does it seem like the entire audience applauds when these nuts are herded out of the room?

Even more interesting is the fact that they aren't even in hostile territory! They aren't at a McCain rally - they are preaching to folks that they beleive share the same views (see also: Maher, etc).

How blind do they have to be to not realize that overwhelming majority of the public doesn't only not believe them, but thinks they are loony?

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Outside of the internet - and with the exception of a relative handful of crackpots - the Truth Movement just doesn't seem to even exist.
