AWK-ward!: McCain & Palin joint interview with Couric

Oh noes! She answered a question from a voter very directly and specifically! They're trying to twist to make it sound like she actually meant it. Goldarn "gotcha journalism".

Wasn't that awkward. Its very apparent to me now that Palin is a succubus. She drew off McCain's life force and delivered a better interview.

I don't think CHipmunk is exactly the most objective individual in matters pertaining to this election.

"Is that a pizza place?"

I realize I'm falling into the same "Gotcha!" trap McCain was complaining about but WHERE THE {snip} DID THAT COME FROM?!?!? WHAT IS HE TALKING ABOUT?!?!

Un-be-f-ing-believable.... That was so humiliating. Is McCain going to be up on the stage with her on Thursday night to protect her from "gotcha" questions?

They would have been better off not doing that joint interview-- that hurt them more than it helped them.

ETA: There's an obvious jump cut at around 2:15... I wonder what they edited out.

Random synaptic discharge. It sometimes happens in old people manatee ointment.

What a bitter little man he is. Gosh, even when he laughs there seems to be an angry, bitter, defensive quality to it.

And before I get jumped on for being biased (which I am), please recall Mac's reputation among his peers for having a problematic temper.

Addendum: Palin was okay. Granted, she was shut down early on.

Well the hapless succubus will be without her host come Thursday. So she'd better sap up all his energy now, while she still can. Yeahyeah, I know what you're wondering: What energy?

That wasn't so bad.

If she got handed her head on a plate before, why is she back again? Is it because she has McCain as a handler? I would think they would keep her winnowed away!

I'm glad McCain was there to help her, but who was there to help McCain?

Is there a trick to make the video play more smoothly? Usually I let the whole video load before I watch it but I was unable to do that here. It ended up be so choppy that I couldn't follow what was being said. What should I do?

So, you've accused him of being angry and bitter because of his laugh, and that can't be challenged because you also accuse him of an unsubstantiated reputation of a problematic temper amongst peers? Gotcha. That's called bias.

After you have clicked the link, let the buffer bar (the slightly different color in the slider below the screen) run for a few seconds to build up a nice buffer of loaded video. Or you can turn off the sound, let it play all the way through, and then turn the sound on and play it again.

You can hardly blame McCain for being bitter. He lost to Bush four years ago when he couldn't out-smear him. Now he's likely to lose again because Bush is such a terrible president. I'd be pissed.

I'm not sure, but what I gathered is that Palin's remarks about crossing the border to bomb Pakistan was something she said when given an unexpected question in a pizza parlor.

Now. . .how THAT makes the statement out of context is beyond me. What context is there that makes her statement different from Obama's?

McCain's definitely using a double standard. With Palin, the remark is taken to mean she'd do whatever is necessary to protect America and our allies, but with Obama the same statement is showing your hand or telling the terrorists what your plans are.

Of course, the context is key. If Obama had made his remarks in a restaurant. . . well, it'd be a different story! :boggled:

I didn't realize that ABC News' Charles Gibson was considered "a voter." link

GIBSON: Do we have the right to be making cross-border attacks into Pakistan from Afghanistan, with or without the approval of the Pakistani government?

PALIN: Now, as for our right to invade, we're going to work with these countries, building new relationships, working with existing allies, but forging new, also, in order to, Charlie, get to a point in this world where war is not going to be a first option. In fact, war has got to be, a military strike, a last option.

GIBSON: But, Governor, I'm asking you: We have the right, in your mind, to go across the border with or without the approval of the Pakistani government.

PALIN: In order to stop Islamic extremists, those terrorists who would seek to destroy America and our allies, we must do whatever it takes and we must not blink, Charlie, in making those tough decisions of where we go and even who we target.

GIBSON: And let me finish with this. I got lost in a blizzard of words there. Is that a yes? That you think we have the right to go across the border with or without the approval of the Pakistani government, to go after terrorists who are in the Waziristan area?

PALIN: I believe that America has to exercise all options in order to stop the terrorists who are hell bent on destroying America and our allies. We have got to have all options out there on the table.

Yeah..."gotcha sound byte." Riiiiiiiiight.

What disturbs me more is this whole "you don't say that out loud" thing from McCain. He has repeated that several times, starting with the debate, and, while I understand that he's trying to say that he wouldn't tip his hand to the enemy before making a strike, it doesn't come across that way. He seems to be saying that he fully supports invading Pakistan, but until he's elected, he doesn't want to say so out loud. This most recent interview seems to confirm this impression. Yet, he's willing to criticize Obama's position on the matter...I guess because he said it "out loud."
