You will be tested if you follow the rules. It's only a few hours before the deadline you forced on us is up, and you have yet to e-mail your claim to me.

If there's one profession that knows paranormal, it's radio hosts; unless you called during drive time; those guys are serious kooks.

Seriously, these are the people you go to to vet your scientific and paranormal claims, Prof? Radio hosts and paid professional writers? Do you also get your car's engine repaired by the produce clerk at the mall? I don't see how the opinion of an un-named radio host matters; was it Art Bell? Howard Stern? Someone on NPR? Who?

I'm having a hard time parsing this, but I think the answer is:

Claim: Your stated ability

Protocol: How the test of claimed ability will be conducted, as agreed by both sides

Making Something Appear where Nothing was before is Not Scientifically Explainable and therefore Paranormal using your OWN definition.

Again, that is not a claim. You've been given nearly the exact sentence to use, and yet you won't use it. I have no idea why not.

Many people have been tested, without nearly as much communication as we've had. All you need to do is follow the very simple rules. Why you won't is beyond me.

Randi is correct when he says it is easy.

Here's my claim: If you ever get any commercial TV news show anywhere to be interested in any of this in any way, I will personally learn to knit, buy supplies, make a hat and eat it.

Some double meaning upside down loop hole, like .... WELL PROVE IT'S PARANORMAL BEFORE THE TEST BEGINS THEN kind of thing?

Yes, that is a claim that we can accept. It's your claim.. any double-meaning or whatever would be your own.

So, if that's your claim please state it clearly and send it to me via e-mail.
 
I certainly hope that TP does not think this ends the negotiations. Considering the apparent misunderstandings concerning the rules that have been displayed so far, I certainly hope he does not think this means the test is now on.

TP, if you submit this protocol, this means you have finished step 1 of the process, and may therefore proceed to the protocol negotiations. Even with your claim accepted, you must present a protocol that both parties agree will eliminate any chance of trickery.

October 31st puts a lot of restrictions on this, as does choosing a specific place. This gives you opportunity to rig the area, and we have to be very cautious about that. However, we should be able to work around them. I don't see how we can do it for 2008 though.

As to if we're almost there, no, we're not. The claim is a small part of this process. Now comes the protocol, which is much more difficult.
 
What's disheartening about this claim is that although the JREF would gladly pay a million bucks for proof of a paranormal event (think of the money they would generate in return), it is apparent that this applicant is only after the money and is trying every avenue to get it through a technicality. If I knew I could truly summon something paranormal, I wouldn't need the JREF as my wealth and fame that resulted from my success would far outnumber anything they could give me. Convincing some of the media of your paranormal event is impressive indeed. Of course, so was the recent Bigfoot story as well.

Dave, I'm not sure why you are so shy about the term paranormal. Please keep in mind:

If you go to the MDC page, you'll see it's listed as the "One Million Dollar Paranormal Challenge." And from the same page: "At JREF, we offer a one-million-dollar prize to anyone who can show, under proper observing conditions, evidence of any paranormal, supernatural, or occult power or event."

If you don't sincerely believe that you can demonstrate something paranormal, there's no reason to apply, as that's the whole point of the challenge. Please keep in mind that the JREF has approved many claims and protocols involving demonstrations that were called "paranormal" by the applicants. So you needn't be shy about calling your event paranormal; on the contrary, the JREF needs to know what your paranormal claim is.

Why are you paranoid about the JREF accepting your claim? Do you not want to be tested?
