Obama: Lipstick on a Pig

And tonight, Sean Hannity will say with a straight face that Obama called Palin a pig and its not out of context. This is your counterpart.

BS! McCain is cool with continuing the occupation permanently. There is no other way to take what he said.

Obama was referring to Bush's policies, suggested that McCain would just be a new face on the same old garbage.

No counter-part at all. Totally different sorts of statements.

That McCain cannot read or listen for comprehension is the issue here. It reflects on his mental health.

I don't think that Obama was somehow directly referring to Palin with his lipstick comment. That being said, though, Obama should have been smart enough to avoid using the term so close to the popular joke Palin gave at her convention speech.

LS, you crack me up. Now Repubs aren't just stupid, they're crazy, too.

Could you do me a favor? Could you rank the following people in the order that a photo sends you into a sputtering rage (highest to lowest):

  • George Bush
  • Dick Cheney
  • John McCain
  • Sarah Palin
  • Osama bin Laden
Thanks - appreciate it.

Wikipedia reacts in it's own unique way:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lipstick_on_a_pig

(although the article isn't entirely correct because I've found what appears to be a use in 1969).

Another common, and perhaps slightly older expression is "Perfume on a pig". Means the same thing.

The first time I recall seeing anything like it was in the early '80s in the Stephen King story, "The Body", later adapted for the screen as "Stand by Me". I can't recall what he was referring to when he said it was "like lipstick on a corpse." The meaning was almost identical with the way the expression was used today, and in the wikipedia citations, but more macabre and less comical.

FactCheck, featured in the recent McCain ad "Fact Check", says that their article was used in a less than honest way.

ETA: Let's have a moment of silence for our country.

No doubt this will be showing up in your inbox as one more proof that The Angry Black Muslim is attacking Christian symbols...

Prediction: Even now, staffers at Comedy Central are combing archives for examples of politicians using the phrase "lipstick on a pig", and we will see a montage of such footage tonight on the Daily Show.

If I am right, I will demand my one million dollars from Randi.

If I'm wrong, I will say that all the negative energy of the campaign distorted the psychic vibrations, throwing off my prediction.
Olbermann did a montage of just McCain saying it. He wasn't very funny, though, as usual.

And the Daily Show was in reruns. Obviously the psychic vibes were just slightly crossed. I think I should still get the million. I probably came closer than most other claimants.

McCain believes the voters are all airheads and mouthbreathers.

The lipstick story was one of the top stories on one of the TV news (WB2 in Denver) shows tonight. The anchor turned the story over to the reporter, finishing with "when Obama compared Palin to a pig". Damn liberal media.

How so?

Palin's speech was much ado about nothing...well...it was about her. That was all fluff for the party faithfull.

Now a candidate wants to talk policy and uses a phrase which has been used by himself and others on many occasions in the past.

It just so happens to have the word 'lipstick' in it. As did Palin's speech.

If the democrats are going to be on the back foot every time they write a speech for fear that it has a word in it which the republican vp candidate might have once used, then they don't deserve to win.

They need to use whatever phrases work for describing the republicans policies and if that can be spun into a 'sexist' attack on palin, then that is more in the eye of the spinner than anyone else.

Though I must admit it is very chivalrous of McCain to come to the defence of his running mate as quick as he did. ;)

Regardless of whether or not people should have made the correlation between Obama's comment and Palin's joke, they did. Watch and listen to the crowd after Obama says it. You can tell exactly what they're thinking. I'm not saying Obama intentionally called Sarah Plain a pig, I think that's ridiculous. All I'm saying is that is was a very poor choice of terminology given the recent popularity of the joke at the Palin speech.

If anything, Obama was calling Palin lipstick, since pig obviously referred to McCain's policy positions.

Who are you calling "lipstick"? You sexist pig!
I think Barack Obama reads these forums! :yikes:

Obama on Letterman:
Keep in mind that technically, that had I meant it this way, she would be the lipstick... The failed policies of John McCain would be the pig... You know, just following the "logic" of this illogical situation.
Obama's having great fun with this, and meanwhile he gets to reiterate over and over again that McCain is still "More of the SameTM" even though he's now calling it "ChangeTM"

This is clearly the defining issue of our age, and I'm absolutely certain that it is right and proper that we are thusly worked up into a petulant frenzy over it.

People the world over must be positively beside themselves with envy over the fact that what emanates from our best and brightest doesn't sound, in the slightest, like the "DID NOT! DID SO! DID NOT! DID SO!" playground yammer of a bunch of gawddamned 8 year-olds.

Excelsior, America!

I watched Letterman last night for the first time in years and saw Obama say this. Absolutely hysterical! I was rolling in the aisles.

I'm tempted to vote for Obama on this point alone. Of course, the whole smug small-town hockey-mom gambit was cute for about 20 minutes and then it got tiresome. Also, now that the Republicans have stolen the change thing, they better come up with something to change.
