Sarah Palin!

Hey, didn't I predict that David Wong would say this was the worst choice possible?

:D

I'm thrilled. McCain just sucked the wind right out of Obama's sails.

You want to make yourself feel better by pretending everyone else is just as much a mindless political hack as you are. We're not. Don't try to bring everyone else down to your immature level. People like you are everything that is wrong with politics. You see it as a childish game of Blue vs. Red, trying to score your petty points wherever you can.

But unlike you, I don't wake up every morning to see what my party's talking points are that day and copy and paste them online as my own.

Some of us actually think. I've voted for Republican presidents and Democrat presidents. Have you?

Do you ever intend to start thinking for yourself, or do you just want to be a Republican party robot for the rest of your life?

Seriously, I'm asking. Because this is sad to watch.

Crowd is going absolutely bananas at Dayton.

I think the enthusiasm gap has just been closed.

Think how effective the "call at 3am" ad would be with her compared to Obama. The more I think about it, the crazier the choice seems. I might change my mind later, but her performance as a candidate is going to have to be incredible to make up for what this is costing McCain.
Yeah, the more I think about it, the more I think this points to serious flaws in McCain's judgment. I said back in June that if I were running McCain's campaign, I'd urge him to pick Palin. Darth Rotor rightfully pointed out that if I were running McCain's campaign, Romney or Huckabee would be the Repub nominee. :D

Are McCain's political instincts really as amateurish as mine? That's a scary thought...

How much of a proponent? Are we talking straight from the Bible and nothing else? Side-by-side with evolution? ID? Teach the controversy?

Here's the story about her creationism: scienceblogs.com/afarensis/2006/10/27/intelligent_design_and_the_ala/ <- add http.... I can't post links yet.

The volatile issue of teaching creation science in public schools popped up in the Alaska governor's race this week when Republican Sarah Palin said she thinks creationism should be taught alongside evolution in the state's public classrooms.

Palin was answering a question from the moderator near the conclusion of Wednesday night's televised debate on KAKM Channel 7 when she said, 'Teach both. You know, don't be afraid of information. Healthy debate is so important, and it's so valuable in our schools. I am a proponent of teaching both.'

*snip*

Palin said she thought there was value in discussing alternatives.

"It's OK to let kids know that there are theories out there," she said in the interview. "They gain information just by being in a discussion."

That was how she was brought up, she said. Her father was a public school science teacher.

"My dad did talk a lot about his theories of evolution," she said. "He would show us fossils and say, 'How old do you think these are?' "

Asked for her personal views on evolution, Palin said, "I believe we have a creator."

She would not say whether her belief also allowed her to accept the theory of evolution as fact.

"I'm not going to pretend I know how all this came to be," she said.

Also notable: In an interview one month ago she said she doesn’t know what the vice president does

Larry Kudlow of CNBC’s “Kudlow & Co.” asked her about the possibility of becoming McCain ticket mate.
Palin replied: “[A]s for that V.P. talk all the time, I’ll tell you, I still can’t answer that question until somebody answers for me what is it exactly that the V.P. does every day? I’m used to being very productive and working real hard in an administration. We want to make sure that that V.P .slot would be a fruitful type of position, especially for Alaskans and for the things that we’re trying to accomplish up here for the rest of the U.S., before I can even start addressing that question.”

I won't know who to vote for till the Europeans, Canadians, and Oliver instruct me. What a quandary.

To be fair, it's your own politicians who are making comments about leadership in the world. That makes the issue somewhat interesting to us. I want to know if the next president is going to be pals with our Good Buddy Steve .

I don't know Sarah Palin. I'm not friends with her. But I'll admit, she is no Dan Quayle. :D

It all comes down to how she'll spell potato. :D

That's not the issue. Like I pointed out, Bush Sr. was younger than McCain is now when he was elected.

Now my Grandmother was alert and active all the way up to 99, yet I ouldn't have wanted her to be president.

McCain will be 76 in four years.

Will he have the physical stamina and mental energy the office requires?

Not everyone has your tact and grace and charm, and your flawless bipartisanship. We can only aspire to your heights of mindfulness.

She just name dropped Hillary. Can't wait to hear Hillary's response.

edit: She opens herself up for a stinging version of the classic "I know Clinton and have worked closely with her. Ms. Palin, you are no Hillary Clinton."

I'm still going back and forth on this. The expectations will be set so low for Palin's campaign performance, that any halfway decent performance, in a debate say, will be construed as holding her own, and thus a net positive against the very experienced Biden.

This could actually work for McCain... Damn him.
