My point was not to argue about the wrongness or rightness of the quote. It's certainly not very prevalent to verbalize the phrase in that way, at least stateside. It changes the meaning of the phrase (albeit slightly) and the author of the article thought it was odd enough grammatically to clarify that it wasn't his typo that produced the quote.
