British "Homophobic" Snickers Ad Yanked After Complaints By Americans

Let's not eliminate the possibility that the complaints were an inside job. I wouldn't have heard of the advert unless it had been banned.

As a cyclist I am experienced with homophobic people driving by yelling remarks. I guess it's all about the spandex. Maybe they don't understand wearing spandex with padding actually saves my penis for other endevors like mating with females. I can't imagine doing a four hour ride in regular shorts.

So with my experiences I say it's a good thing this commercial was pulled. It would only feed the anti-spandex community (i bet you didn't know there was such an organization did you?)

Obviously this only became a problem because someone complained. The question is, was it some overly-sensitive homosexuals? Or some very over-sensitive, busy body, politically correct leftists who aren't in fact gay but decided that this would offend gay people and simply must stop?

If the former, then I can somewhat understand. They may or may not be reading too much into it, but at least they are speaking for themselves and I don't feel very comfortable telling them how they should feel about it. But if it was the latter who complained, then for shame.

I don't see many other options. I doubt any right wingers were the ones complaining. If anything, they would probably enjoy it being Mr. T roughing up on a homosexual.

Obviously you've never been cycling. I have people throwing things out of cars at me just because I wear spandex. I have people who try to run me off the road because they think i'm gay for riding a bike. I'm sorry but you guys are ignorant if you think there are not a lot of homophobes that this comercial would encourage.

Brendy, maybe you should

WoW! You have got to be doing something else besides riding a bike to get that kind of action. You must live in a strange area because even in my “Macho” part of the world I have never heard anybody mention bike=gay or spandex=gay. :)

However, if that commercial hadn’t gotten pulled I would have gone after them for the ‘Get some nuts’ remark. Clearly they were suggesting that people should harass mentally disturbed individuals.

mrbaracuda: That was good. LoL

Clearly. And once you spotted them, you hunt them down with your snickers cannon and drown them in a sea of delicious chocolate and nuts!

Considering you live in Alaska, do you actually see many cyclists for most of the year?

This is a serious question from someone who has only seen snow once (and it was several weeks old by the time I saw it).

I'll be sure to ask some friends of mine who are part of that community about it.

There is no shame in knowing someone from the speed walking community.

Well, not much shame. Let's say that.

I mean, compared to, say, knowing mass murderers. Or the Marquis.

For most of the year, no, we don't see many at all. But when cycling weather comes around, folks tend not to waste it and come out in force.

But I don't much agree with Brendy. I was an avid (300-350 mi/week) cyclist some years back and I heard my share of idiotic remarks about spandex being gay or effeminate but that didn't overly sensitize me to it. I think the stink raised over the commerical is much ado about not much.

This is worse than the Nike ad campaign that got pulled a little while ago because gay people that don't understand basketball got offended.

If you outlaw Snickers guns only outlaws will have Snickers guns!

Fixed it for you.

As PetersCreek stated "For most of the year, no, we don't see many at all. But when cycling weather comes around, folks tend not to waste it and come out in force."
We really do have some nice bike trails. Also, I spend about 4 months a year in CA.
What's vegelate? Artificial chocolate made from ham?
Thanks for the link, I had to look it up too. Now I have to work it into a conversation somehow.

How did the people protesting the commercials know the power-walker guy was gay?

He didn't have a sign on his back saying he was getting ready for the 11th annual Gay Power Walk.

Mr. T didn't yell at him, "You faggy fudge-packer!"

Did Mars pull the commercial because someone's gaydar pinged?

ETA: Happy Birthday, Tsukasa Buddha!
