homobigotry on mythbusters

Tonight's episode of mythbusters included an experiment to test if Tory and Grant would use more gas when driving stressed than relaxed.

In the experiment, they are primed with either relaxation or stress before driving a set-out course.

Tory's relaxation: watching the director's cut of bladerunner while getting a massage from a woman. An older, 'homely' looking woman.

Tory's stress: he enters the "torture" tent where he gets a massage from a man ("madd matt's man massage"). And no alternate movie watched.

So without even having to watch a movie he hates, just getting a massage from a man is not only stress, but is literally called torture.

This bigotry against homosexuals is intolerable, and should not be condoned in such a manner by either Mythbusters or the Discovery Channel.

There were additional bigotries in tonight's episode. It seems every time they cook something, Adam Savage has to do this really lame stereotypical French accent. I like my science without xenophobia, thank you very much.

Then Tory had to catch himself from saying "x is a bitch" in front of Kari. If it's wrong to say it in front of a woman, it's wrong to say it at all.

Misogyny, homophobia, and xenophobia, all in one episode.

Making a statement that some straight men would find being touched by another man is not a homophobic statement, it's a true statement. He wasn't making an objective statement that all men touching men is always torturous for any men, I can't even see anyone making that kind of statement, even a homophobe. I really fail to see your problem, besides problems that are entirely your own.

I think that, in all this speculation, we've missed one important possibility:

Perhaps Adam is gay...or bisexual. And the stress that he felt was due to the fact that he was getting physically aroused by the massage, and was afraid of having it revealed on national TV!

everyone seems to have glossed over the 'bitch' part of the post.

i cant seriously be offended by the massage thing, i just feel like its really......... stupid. I think that its the kind of idea a middle schooler would come up with. It feels like something that aims to amuse idiots.

If you really want to know, just google image "Adam Savage" "goatse."

Eheh. Heh. Hehehehe.

So, you're lying... don't you feel foolish and embarrassed by your dishonesty? Did you even watch the episode?

I did.

The first massage was from a masseuse. The "torture" was that the second massage was done on a cheap table by some random production assistant who pounded potato chips into Tory's back with his elbows. No homophobia involved, which makes you either foolish or dishonest.

Ok, I have a more obscure goatse reference.

During the week leading up to Blizzards announcment of Diablo III, there were a series of "ice" pictures that were teasers on their main site, updated slightly each day, as a tease/hint towards what they were going to announce. It started as a sheet of ice that slowly opened up more and more, until you could see a face appearing in the center.

On one of the last days, someone edited one of the pics to this:

I thought it was funny.

As to the homosexuality, well I always just assumed that the one with the ridiculous moustache must be batting for the other side.. but I could never be arsed to investigate it. Nor can I now.
Relax. Maybe get a massage.
They aren't gay. Neither of them are gay. Jamie is married. Adam is married. It is clearly documented that a lot of people thought they were gay. The irony was that Google kept on wanting to complete the word Mythbusters with the word gay. For the longest time I had no idea why until I read the interview with Adam.

Im sorry but this is moronic. The guy was ugly. The guy was sprinkling potato chips all over the guys body. The guy would probably torture a gay man.
Grant seems to be quite likely a gay man, yet he and Tory work together effectively.
You know what I find really dumb. Trying to guess who is and who isn't gay. What makes you think he is gay? Anyway, his Myspace page says he is straight. Your gaydar is broken.
Mythbusters Interview with gay fanmail.

I just watched that episode about an hour ago, and it seemed pretty clear to me the "stressful" part of that massage is that it was going to be painful and he was going to rub weird stuff into him. When you saw the massage, he was punching him and grinding what looked like potato chips into his back.

But suppose if he were stressed out about getting a massage by another man. So what? Most people are not stressed out by decorative fish, yet that was Grants torture.

Myth Busters is a cheesy show intended for nothing more than cheap entertainment. As far as "bigotry" goes, that same joke has been used in countless sitcoms, reality shows, etc. I find a man giving another male a massage, and making him uncomfortable funny. I think it's more a satire than a hateful gesture. And who's to say that he was actually uncomfortable? He is an entertainer.

Homobigotry is an awesome word though.

When I saw the word in the thread title, I assumed it meant the opposite - that is, bigotry by homosexuals against others. The word sounds like it popped straight out of the Phelps lexicon, so I was surprised to see what OP was actually saying.

Let me guess, you like to label and marginalize people!

It's just that when one describes BR as "slow and pointless", I strikes me as someone who has probably never actually took the time to watch or read anything for more than a few minutes at a time.

And yet, he or she got through 3 full pages of this drivel.:D

I've gained so much from JREF over the years. I don't think I could really quantify it. Still, given that and having never known goatse I gotta say I wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then.

I'm from the video game generation, and it has greatly increased my patience and ability to make rote, repetitive responses to simple stimuli. . . oh, I guess the Atari 2600 doesn't count?

You byteists.

I think I have an old Atari out in my garage. It's probably next to the old Colecovision that I still have for some reason.

player: "I'll take Atari games for $400, Alex"

Alex: "Ok, the clue: Bonk, bonk, bonk, bonk, bonk".

player: "What is PacMan for the 2600?"

Alex: "Correct!"
