RSL in hospital

I'm very sorry to hear that. I have enjoyed the SSB web pages and I realise it takes significant effort to keep them updated. I hope for a speedy recovery. - Steve Roberts, Melbourne, Australia

Last one for tonight. I promise.

And another.... He's been a member for years. Nothing yet important to post about.... Until Now.

RSL... I'm agog, and would be just the teensiest bit jealous if you didn't merit all this. My only worry is that you're Politeness Man Reincarnate and are going to spend five months responding to everyone, individually.

RSL's Better Half. Thank you so much for keeping us abreast of things. Keeping a cool head through all of this is just remarkable. I hope you're getting enough rest for yourself. You must be exhausted.

...We need you, big guy!

Sometimes someone does something so selfless and useful you feel you can almost see through what they're doing, beyond the tiny cracks in the public professional persona and into a private soul, and know it to be good.

Robert has inspired me, and helped me to believe that the determined honest average guy who just keeps chipping away is the one who eventually changes the world for better.

Best wishes to him and all who know him.

Mike.

Hi, Y'all.

What a roller coaster of a week it has been. From almost the worst news ever to jubilation over the smallest things.

So, today the feeding tube gets changed from the nose to the belly. Man! It's amazing what doctors can do these days! This whole thing sounds unobtrusive and so much more comfortable.

The pick line cannot be done, because the operating table is not big enough to hold Robert. So, they will put one of those things up on his shoulder or neck - like a shunt, I think. That won't be so comfortable, but better than being poked over and over with needles!

Still no word on when the traec will be done. But we still have some time.

I'm off to the hospital now. Love to all. God bless!

Susan

Thank you for the updates, and thanks Darat for the new thread specially for Susan (here it is, btw).

I've subscribed to it with "instant email notification". I did not even know that was available, so here is the heads up for those who want to be warned as soon as Susan or the Beeg Seester include updates on that thread.

Susan, thanks again for writing so many updates. It's very appreciated!

Seconded. This thread is quite full of forum members who rarely post, compared to us talkative ones. It shows how much RSL and his work mean to a lot of people here.

Oh Susan, if I could give you a hug and bake you a pie or something, but alas, I'm on another continent.

You're honoring your vows in the most dedicated way.

Susan, I had a pic line installed (is that the right word?) when I was in hospital a couple of years ago and they did it while I sat in bed in my room. I do remember that they have to do a chest x-ray immediately following the installation to make sure the business end is in the proper location near the heart.

Glad to hear he opened his eyes the other day.

Tell him "Skinny says as forum god he commands you to awaken and get better". That'll fix him up. :)

Considering the sheer number of regular and not-so regular Forum members who have posted well-wishes, along with the rare and first-time posters, there must be many more lurkers and even non-Forum members who have been influenced by RSL.

Kind of reminds me of the Drake equation...

That's it. I'm baking and sending oatmeal cookies when I get back from work.

Seriously.

I can attest to that, speaking as a long time lurker who recently delurked in part to be able to respond to this thread.

Best wishes to you RSL. I've followed your important work for quite some time. You are one of the good guys and your better half must, by definition, be better still.:)

I was so sorry to hear about this. I wish RSL a full and speedy recovery.

I've been away, but wanted to respond to this as soon as I could - I'm a huge admirer of RSL's work, and of the impression I've gained of RSL as a human being, and was really upset by the news. All my best wishes to everyone who knows Robert, and of course to the man himself.

RSL - I hope you fight your way back from this with the same tenacity you've always displayed in your work. There are a lot of people thinking of you right now. And for every skeptic who posts on a forum like this, there must be ten people who chanced upon SSB and were swayed. None of us have ever heard of them, but they're now living free of woo, thanks to you. Get well soon.

So, I guess The RSL Equation goes something like this:

I = (fc + fp + fr + fm + fl + rw) x (iSB + iK)2 x Lf3
where I is the total influence of RSL

and

fc = the number of Forum members who have had contact with him
fp = the number of Forum members who have posted and had direct responses from him
fr = the number of Forum members who regularly read his threads but don't necessarily respond, or only rarely
fm = the number of Forum members who regularly read his threads but never post to them at all
fl = the number of lurkers or non-Forum members who regularly read his threads but have not registered
rw = the number of readers of www.stopsylviabrowne.com and www.stopkaz.com
iSB = the irritation level of Sylvia Browne
iK = the irritation level of Kaz
Lf = the love, respect, and admiration of his family, friends, and fans

I've known Bob "online" for 7 years now and even though we don't always agree on every little thing, I absolutely adore him, and am a HUGE fan of his work with KAZ and the dreaded Sylvia Browne. I've been looking forward to his next projects that kick butt!

Bob's better 1/2, if there was anything I could do for you or Bob, I'd do it. I wish I lived next door so I could make you casseroles every night and cut your lawn.

Please know that Bob, you, your families and his medical staff are in my thoughts and prayers, and that I am also pulling for him to make a complete recovery!

All my love to you both! xxx ooo

Hello again, Everyone.

Grayman, I'll take the cookies any day! Robert can't eat 'em, but I probably wouldn't share them with him anyway.

alfaniner, he woule truly appreciate the equation! No matter how "surreal" it seemed to have his name attached to it.

Ladyotw, I don't know how to tell you this, but we don't have a lawn. We have cement, planters, and more cement! But your thoughts are appreciated.

Hi Everyone

I just wanted to echo my sister's appreciation for the prayers & good wishes you have been posting. Your posts have been a great source of strength for Susan and for the rest of the family. They will be a great source of inspiration for Robert as he works through the process of recovery.

I'm heading back up to LA tomorrow to personally witness him opening his baby blues. I understand that he has had a good day today, but I'll let Susan tell you about that.

Thanks again for all of the kind words & thoughts they have been a help.

Susan, thank you for the updates. We are all anxious to hear of Robert's progress and I wish you both well. I have never met Robert in person. I only know him from this board and a couple e-mails back and forth at one time. Nevertheless, I consider him a friend and it seems I am not alone.

I'm looking forward to when Robert starts posting here again. All my best to you both!

Wow. How cool is it that Robert's siblings are posting on the forum? They are getting a first hand account of just how wonderful you all are.

BTW: I picked up the first batch of cards and letters yesterday at the post office box. Keep them coming, folks! Janie will be putting them in the remembrance book, too! If you've sent one, do send another. Robert will be reading them soon. It may help him get through his rehabilitation.
