I have to wonder sometimes... I work my ass off, teaching actual science (specifically, physics and astronomy) in a difficult and rigorous manner to students. The preparation of lectures (and especially experiments) is long and tedious, the grading is even worse, and many times it is a thankless job. Because I demand that students "do it right" and that they think consistently and formulate logical arguments, I'm considered "too tough" by many. There have even been many occasions when a student or their parents challenge the grades I've assigned when I clearly show the student did the physics wrong, yet they challenge it anyway - sometimes continually, even going over my head to the principle or superintendent.
Yet here is some whackjob who makes up random crap, simply telling people what they want to hear... and he earns a nice, comfortable living at it with no one holding him accountable. Wow, he's
such a nice guy
If I wanted to throw my ethics to the wind and make an assload of dough, maybe I should move to some scenic place and claim to be in touch with my chakras. Or I could start my own radio / TV show and tell people to send me money while I pray to Jebus for them. But I can't make myself do something like that, because
1) I'm too honest, and
2) I'm too connected to reality.
So I'm doomed to be a "mean teacher" who demands too much of his students. C'est la vie.
What a world, eh?
