How Is Obamania Like AIDS?

Thank for taking a dumb commercial where a lack of skepticism is the central point and compare it to aids. Good job mang. The real point is the weird hope-belief stuff coming from people who have as one of their grievances the anti-intellectualism of the Bush admin and American values voters.
 
Yes, I think there are other silly messages in the ad, but the whole "gag" involves setting the hook that the people are talking about AIDS (or some other STD), and then revealing that they're really talking about the Obama brand of hopey changitude.

Feel free to discuss the other aspects. I was just floored by the obvious comparison.
 
Aids? More like Herpes. That is without a doubt the stupidest ad I've ever seen. I'm sure their are a bunch of young idiots who think it's great. That scares me even more.

My favorite parts;

The guy says I got it from her, and she looks away in shame. She should be ashamed.

I, too, thought herpes, not AIDS.

I'm not scared by it, simply dumbfounded at the obvious stupidity of it.
1.) Do you really want to compare your candidate to an STD?
2.) Do you really want to compare your candidate to an additive, life-destroying drug?

It was dumb. that's all.
 
The way that Obama is attacked for being very popular and for inspiring hope in a lot of people, you would think hope was an STD.

Not Obama, as joobz has it. Hope. There's nothing wrong with it, and this ad mocks people who think that there is.

The premise is cute, because those herpes commercials are ridiculous and must be parodied more.

But wow that sucked.
 
Good god, that's a dumb ad.

It's kind of a cute premise, and I like the twist at the end with the adorable little chick and the guy with the baby chicken ( ;) ), but as a campaign ad it's a big fat FAIL.
 
But the videos on that site aren't campaign ads. They're entries from a contest/challenge for Obama fans to make their own pro-Obama (or anti-his-opponents) videos.
 
Okay, I see it's apparently a spoof of an ad about herpes; I don't watch a lot of TV so I'd never seen that particular ad. Hence I associated it with AIDS.

Still strikes me as a very poor choice, but I'm not in the target demo, so who's to say how it will go over with the MTV fans.

Ah. I guess it only works if you've seen that ad first. I haven't. The other ad it parodies is the old "This is your brain on drugs" ad, which I have seen. But for anyone who hasn't seen those ads, it's completely dumb, which is what my first impression was.
 
Okay, as someone voting for Obama, I admit this is a cultish, creepy, cuddly-sinister ad LOL.
