If there were an election today, latest opinion suggests almost the entire cabinet would lose their seats, including Brown.

Setting this poll on a timer, you have three days to cast your vote.

I'm sure someone can then calculate how the commons would change if our votes reflected the electorate.

Campaign for your party!

Would Wales & NI not be voting in your snap election...... ;)

At the moment I could not vote for any of the major parties, for the first time in my life I would have to spoil my ballot paper.

I urge you all to vote Tory, and hence speed the way for English independence. As an added bonus, you can keep Gordon Brown and Alastair Darling - we can live without 'em.

I'd have to go with the Lib Dems personally. They most closely fit my politics of the 3 major parties. I'd be tempted back to Labour if Miliband took over though.

That's a lot of parties. What's the SNP? BNP but socialistic?

Wiki

A social democrat party which wants an independent Scotland, nothing like the BNP, who are neo-fascists.

It would take some serious shifting to get Labour out of Darlington (52% of the Vote Cons+LibDems only total 44%), and unless the LibDems or an independant could even be close to mounting a successful campaign, I'm with Darat, I would prob spoil my ballot,

If only Spoiled ballots worked like the silver tokens on the Crystal maze,

Does anyone planning to vote Conservative actually think Cameron's politics will actually make their lives better? I understand the will to change, but I can't for the life of me understand why everyone complaining about the economy, social justice and crime think Conservative policies will improve anything.

That said, in response to the OP I concur with Ian - Lib Dem, but with no enthusiasm.

This is mine: http://www.dominicgrieve.org.uk/ and it is as likely to be a non-tory MP here next time as the the next Pope being Jewish! So my vote for a non-tory MP would be "wasted" anyway but still worth making if there was any one I could currently support.

If you remember, there was a common compliant of "where's your policies? constantly directed at the Tories. And we are still in the same position however what the Tories now have is that they are not Labour....

Indeed. Everyone moaning (quite rightly) about New Labour should remember that voting Conservative is not an exit. You know everything you hated about this lot? That lot are the same, except more so. Shudder.

As an "old Labour" man, I've had to vote Lib Dem for the last two elections, because the only remaining left-wing parties are a.) a little too left-wing for my liking and b.) self-evidently total buffoons. So I vote for the lousy Lib Dems just to keep out the highly unpleasant local Labour representative. But then I live in liberal country - the Lib Dems took the seat from Labour post-Iraq War, and even before that the Tories usually shuffled home a poor third. If I were in a Tory/Labour marginal... oh God, I don't want to think about it.

We're stuffed, anyway. Cameron is the next Prime Minister. There's no escape.

If Cameron is the next PM then I forecast escape for abouy 5 million of us within a couple of years. Labour have traditionally had to rely on Scotland and Wales for their electoral victories, hence the Conservatives wouldn't be weeping buckets plus (of course) the party is a complete anathma to most Scots thanks to Mrs. T.

Yeah, it's terrifying but (apparently) true: without the votes of Scotland and Wales, the Tories would have won every general election in history.

In the event of Scottish independence, dooming the rest of us to an eternity of Conservative rule, you chaps are looking at a massive influx of Englishmen. I hope you're ready. If we don't talk about international football, I'm sure we'll all get on fine.

I think my Labour MP is actually quite good as a constituency MP. However I can't support her party.
I will either vote Lib dem or will (once again) trot along to the polling station and spoil my paper.

I do think they should add a “none of the above” to separate the likes of me who don’t support any of the candidates from those unable to follow simple instructions to make the mark of a cross on a piece of paper with a pencil.

All polls must have a planet X option, or Mirth

Yeah, it's terrifying but (apparently) true: without the votes of Scotland and Wales, the Tories would have won every general election in history.

It is hard to say what the vote would have been in England for a solely English parliament for several reasons, however, the English results in 2005 were:

Labour 286 seats
Tory 194
Lib-Dems 47
Other 2

The Tories did get more votes in England but this didn't translate into more seats. Adding in Welsh votes (as they are unlikely to recieve independence soon) gives Labour a bigger majority of seats and an overall majority of votes. Northern Ireland is complicated because of the different parties and Sinn Fein not taking their seats.

Think you need to do a little bit more fact checking and/or be a bit more sceptical about what sources you are willing to accept:

2005 General election, English constituency results:

Labour 286, Tory 194, Other 49. Labour majority - 43

2001 General election, English constituency results:

Labour 323, Tory 165, Other 41. Labour majority - 117

1997 General election, English constituency results:

Labour 328, Tory 165, Other 36. Labour majority - 127

Figures from here.
