JEROME - Black holes do not exist

Jerome’s current assertion is that the force of gravity can not be measured, and thus the strength of gravity can not be determined.

Although he has previously stated that “gravity is not strong enough”, which belies that current assertion.

He will most likely continue to assert that the force of gravity can not be measured as it is simply a position of denial and does not require him to support his previous assertion that “gravity is not strong enough” but of course makes that assertion knowingly, from Jerome’s perspective, invalid.

So which is it, Jerome, that we can not measure the force of gravity and your previous assertion was in error or gravity is not strong enough and your assertion about our ability to measure gravity is in error?

Actually, I believe his point is that we can't claim the force we detect is caused by gravity, and not something else.

However, since he does seem to admit that we can directly detect other forces, one should point out that, while detecting the attraction between objects, we can rule out any other of the other forces as causig this attraction (because we can directly detect them). This leaves an attraction between masses, caused by some unknwon, unseen force.

For reference, lets call this unseen force gravity.

So, we can see that Jerome's apparent position to refute gravity in fact requires us to invent gravity to explain unexpalined phenomena.

Last night while watching a couple of "The Universe" shows on the telly, I thought of this topic, with all the various twists and turns and there was an animation of a huge black hole, shotting out a jet millions of light years, with the rotating disc and all that, and I suddenly had the answer.

But I went to sleep instead of logging on, and now I can't remember what it was. But it was about black holes and gravity and stuff.

Damn sleep, It ruins everything.

Pretty funny..

:D

Pages later, this thread is still amazing to me.

Gravity doesn't exist because we can't measure it.... no wait, it does exist but we can't measure it..... no wait, we can measure it but it's not strong enough to do what science says is does (because somehow the measurements are all wrong)..... trust me, I don't have any math or evidence but it's not strong enough.

Just plan silliness.

Jerome, let's face it, you are talking to a board full of mostly skeptical types. Most here would be the first in line to jump on an inconsistency if one were to be found.

There are things in science that are up for debate, dark matter, dark energy, multi-verse etc. but black holes are generally accepted by the scientific community as a reality. The argument you are making was fought and decided decades ago by people with much more insight into the issue than you or I.

That DOES NOT mean we shouldn't question science, we should.

It just means that in this instance the jury has already come back with a verdict and the matter is settled until new evidence comes to light. Until you bring new EVIDENCE to the court of appeals this case closed so please move on.

You must be new here. :D

Welcome!:)

LOL

Thanks... long time lurker, occasional poster.

Jerome just gets me a little riled up is all. People who completely eschew clearly established, documented evidence and instead turn toward mumbo gumbo and made up BS in an effort to validate their own myopic worldview usually do that to me.

Call Jerome the average citizen and you would be pretty close to the mark about my feelings toward him.

:)

Beware, certain trolls (not to mention any names) are all about getting folks riled up and suckering them into getting suspended, in my most humble opinion. OPINION here mods!!!
Many of said trolls don't care about learning anything. But hey, hope springs eternal. :)
Personally, when someone is irrational, I split.

Very good point, warning taken.

That said, what I find slightly amazing is the fact that when I get riled up from "certain people" it's not because they are making valid points, it because they are NOT making valid points.

Certain people think that getting others riled up is evidence that the "certain person" has made their point. This could not be farther from the truth in my case and that to me is ironic to the point of laughter. I am riled up at the idiocy, not the validity, of the argument presented by some folks around here.

Well, certain persons are not interested in civil discourse or logical argument, just winning. I personally don't get it, but that's just me.

The only time I was ever riled up about a poster, I wasn't suspended, I was nominated!

The only time. *sniff*.

Cheers! Was that a self righteous smug "sniff"? :) It should be.

ETA I just had a flashback to many discussions with friends that lasted until 3 in the morning. Never any of this nerney nerney stuff, but I will never forget my good friend Ghandi (as we called him), who informed me once that I had just managed to argue both sides of the issue successfully. It was funny at the time.

Keep in mind that this thread began as a troll of me. (Read the second post in this thread)
