Hello all!

The Shaved Ape Motorcycle Club will be hosting its first annual TAM Scotch and Wine Bar (plus cigars) event in a suite at the Caesars Palace Hotel (across the street) from the conference hotel.

When: Thursday Night, 9:00-????
What: Single Malts, Red Wine, Cigars that may be from Communist countries.

Since we will not know the suite number until we check in we will be handing out cards at the TAM reception. Also look for news on the cork-board outside of the main hall (where announcements have been posted in previous years). We will post in this thread as well.

As we are self-funded, donations at the event are appreciated. Hope to see you all there.

We will also be hosting an after-party on Saturday in conjunction with the Skepchicks party (in the same hotel). If they are full, come see us.

Aaron

Single malts you say. I may be tempted to sample one of those. I guess we've figured out where my duty-free is going.

Like other large hotels, I'm pretty sure Caesars requires you to show a room key before you can go up in the elevators. Is there some mechanism in place to allow people to get up there?

(I sent the same query to Rebecca with regards to the Forum party.)

This is not the thing I need to read on the day I get my tax refunds. I need to go abroad again, dammit! Aaaargh! Temptation's a bitch!

I won't be riding my motorcycle, but I do have one. Does that qualify me for the club? Do I have to shave?

Will contributions also be accepted in kind? I'd planned to lead a trip to the liquor store after the reception for those who lack bottles to purchase one to share.

Updated TAM6 Activities (spreadsheet)

When you know more about the post-party, let me know.

Good point. I have no idea what the drill will be, but I'm sure we both need to solve the same problem. Did you ever get a response back from Rebecca?

Nope, but I think when I sent it to her I worded it more as a "hey, you might want to check on this" rather than something for her to respond back to me about. You might want to contact her directly to see if she either has an answer or wants to partner up with you on conquering this stiffling afront to our freedom of assembly.

Worst case scenario: Station someone downstairs to escort people through in small groups. Rotate the position frequently so the guard does not perform a smack-down.

That happened in the pajama party once. I got a call from downstairs, and I was supposed to go down, show my key and allow entrance. But you know how distances are and I didn't want to keep people waiting. So I rushed as I was: barefoot, in a black nightgown. I arrived downstairs and allowed entrance to some 15 people, and the receptionist didn't find this strange at all. Oh, Vegas.

An experiment to to see if this single-malt initiative meshes with the chocolately tradition of TAM.

Trying a single malt that reportedly works well with chocolate. The latter is premium 65% cocoa dark chocolate. Melting on tongue. Taking a sip of the whisky. Washing it around a bit before swallowing.

Verdict: interesting. The strong and complex whisky mixing with the creamy and slightly bitter chocolate. Yuk. Don't like it much at first, but it's approaching inoffensiveness. Trying a bit more. Definitely a different way to experience Scotland's finest export. I think I could like this and will encourage others to try it in Vegas.

Count me in. I usually have to enjoy scotch and cigars alone. I would be happy to contribute a bottle to the cause if I can catch a ride to the liquor store.

Reed - I appreciate your initiative and bravery, but I think I'll stick to brandy or port wine with my chocolate.

Cool. Both James Fox and Rich Orman will have cars and are open to a liquor store run for those who would like to purchase a bottle to share.

As I think I'd mentioned before, the Lee's Discount Liquor chain has a decent selection of single malts. This location appears to be the most convenient: 3480 E Flamingo Rd, just a few miles from the hotel.

I'll have a car also and am more than willing to take a group.

Looks like things are shaping up nicely. We should have a good group to chat and hang out. BTW, there was a typo in my original message. the name of our clan is: Shaved Ape Motorcycle Club, Dance Crew, & Cooper's Guild. We regret the error. :)

It still seems amazing to me that a hotel would allow cigar smoking in a suite. Must be a Vegas thing.

Just so we can all appear to very bohemian and sexy, I will bring a bottle of absinthe that has been lurking, virtually unused, in my liquor cabinet for about five years.
