From the Gulf Daily News (Bahrain) Saturday 12th April 2008:

Intelligence agent shot dead
ISLAMABAD: Gunmen in a car shot dead an intelligence agent in Pakistan's north-western Charsadda town yesterday. Khaliq Khan, head of the Intelligence Bureau in Charsadda, was killed on his way home after prayers.

Now, if that isn't as good a proof you'll ever get that either prayer doesn't work and/or that this "god-entity" has a supremely sick motive I don't know what would be. Or, of course, Mr Khan could have simply omitted to pray for his life. Perhaps his mind wandered, and god just shuffled his feet. Yes, that could be a plausible explanation. How unfortunate.

That's easy. Either:

A) He wasn't praying to Jesus; or

B) His prayer was answered. The answer was no.

Or it was right on time ;)

That too... heck, god wasn't shuffling his feet-- he got right on the task of rewarding the faithful! That's super swell of him. I bet the man is enjoying houris or whatever it is they get in paradise these days.

Prayer does work you know? I would suspect that someone just happened to pray that an intelligence agent would get shot...

He probably wasn't facing Mecca. What an affront. If I was god, I would be PO'ed too and certainly would shuffle my feet at the very least.

Good point. When two people pray for mutually exclusive outcomes, I wonder how god decides. Perhaps he defers to a committee of angels, saints or such like. What a dilemma - rather them than me!

p.s. and what if they don't happen to be sitting on that particular day?! :boggled:

I would think that there is likely some sort of points system. Something akin to ethereal frequent flier miles perhaps...

I direct you to the fine wikipedia entries on the problem of evil and the efficacy of prayer for the likely theistic responses.

Personally, I figure that he died because high-velocity bits of lead entered his body and caused some pretty catastrophic disruptions to presumably vital organs, without having much to do with his devotion.

I figure it would depend on how many people were praying for each outcome. I'd hate to accuse God of being less than democratic.

This says it way better than I ever could.

That was a great video, quite interesting. The sad thing is that it will have little effect on anyone who watches it.

If you're Atheist, then the video is just a presentation of a self evident fact.

If you're a theist, then you are impervious to logical arguments and will discount the video as Atheist propaganda.

I would like to forward the video to a few friends but I won't. I find that most people are either offended when I provide rational arguments against their beliefs or they become downright indignant.

Maybe I need new friends....

I could have said it slightly better, only because I know what optical means. Sorry to pick nits, but that nit keeps picking at me!

Well, if we're nit picking then the term should be "visual illusion". Interpretation by the brain of the images shown at the beginning have absolutely nothing do with optics, and illusions relating thereto!
