Some thoughts about the Mohammed Cartoons

Quran 5:33: The punishment of those who wage war against Allah and His messenger and strive to make mischief in the land is only this, that they should be murdered or crucified or their hands and their feet should be cut off on opposite sides or they should be imprisoned; this shall be as a disgrace for them in this world, and in the hereafter they shall have a grievous chastisement,

Why do you think I would say Iran is unIslamic?

Their form of capital punishment is not Islamic.

But so what, it still get's the job done, and that's all that counts.

Let me rephrase: Now, watch him say Iran's methods are not Islamic. Why? Because they use cranes instead of their bare hands. :p

:boggled:

I was listening to a BBC podcast this morning called Beyond Belief where they discussed the cartoons.

The muslim guy from MCGB was saying that islam should not get any more respect than other religions but that all of them ought to get more. This would amount to more censorship and taking blasphemy laws back somewhat as far as I can tell.

One person was suggesting that free speech and free expression were the major issue and that they were absolute - people must accept they can be offended. They can complain and protest but they should not be able to stop it and certainly not via threats of violence as sections of the islamic community did. I tend to agree with this point of view.

However, as was pointed out by the muslim, we don't have free speech or expression with regards to various racial expressions or paedophilia etc. These laws (and I must admit I'm not certain as to exactly what is allowed) would appear to be rooted in the offence received. Th

In the UK we have an expression - "barking mad".

It was a comparison.

In Islam the teachings of the Prophet is everything. His words and actions guide all that we do 24/7/365.

We use his teachings in personal conduct, family life, marriage, personal finances, child raising, business dealings, etc.

Ah yeah, Mohammad the Marriage Counselor...

And getting a "revelation" from Allah telling you that He wants you to bang your new hot daughter in law - also the perfect example of parenthood on earth.

Curious, what internet source did you get this verse from?

Is this sura not in the Koran?

And, one last time, I'm curious to know if you think that it is currently acceptable for a man to have sex with a 12 year old bride, or do you think that this particular aspect of Muslim history is no longer relevant in the 21st century?

Misconception number 1: Muhammad was a pedophile:

The simple fact is that we have more historical evidence that suggests that Aisha was much older than 9, than we do which suggests that she was that young. It is possible that she was younger, but unlikely, this is mainly believed by Muslims who take Bukhari and Muslim as literal canon, when studied from a secular point of view though the evidence against such a notion is quite large.

Yes it is a verse (ayat) from the Qur'an. But I wonder which translation this came from?

Before you wondered what website it came from. It is from the M. H. Shakir translation

Here are three English translations:

YUSUFALI: The punishment of those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger, and strive with might and main for mischief through the land is: execution, or crucifixion, or the cutting off of hands and feet from opposite sides, or exile from the land: that is their disgrace in this world, and a heavy punishment is theirs in the Hereafter;

PICKTHAL: The only reward of those who make war upon Allah and His messenger and strive after corruption in the land will be that they will be killed or crucified, or have their hands and feet on alternate sides cut off, or will be expelled out of the land. Such will be their degradation in the world, and in the Hereafter theirs will be an awful doom;

SHAKIR: The punishment of those who wage war against Allah and His messenger and strive to make mischief in the land is only this, that they should be murdered or crucified or their hands and their feet should be cut off on opposite sides or they should be imprisoned; this shall be as a disgrace for them in this world, and in the hereafter they shall have a grievous chastisement,

I never claimed to be the author matey.

It is proper to provide a cite or a link to source when posting other people's material. A first offense, made in ignorance of the protocol, deserves nothing more than an explanation of proper procedure.

I never claimed to be the author matey.

Don't give me that crap. When you don't give any indication whatsoever that you didn't write it yourself, you claim ownership.

Otherwise, which parts of any of your posts have you written yourself? Do we have to check each and every post of yours?

Answer the questions put to you, in your own words. Or quote properly.

Unless you think your god allows you to be a fraud.

YUSUFALI uses the word "execution" which is the correct translation.

Pickthal says "killed", while Shakir uses "murder".

So it was obvious to me why an anti-Islamic person like Jigsaw would pick the translation that used a negative term like murder.
