Some thoughts about the Mohammed Cartoons

This is supposed to be an educational board, isn't it? Let's quit insulting people and start educating them (and ourselves) instead.

My 2 cents.

Meg
Yes I agree and you should start with yourself. Saying a group with a different name is Al-Qaeda does not make it true and neither does the article say it is true. Yes Al-Qaeda was formed from some in Afghanistan but that does not mean it was formed during the Russian invasion. Besides, that is not what was brought up to SM yet it is what he decided to focus on like a 9/11 twoofer. By all means let him lead you around like a bull with a nose ring. Seems I am not the only one who feels he 9or she) is a fake. Ever think you may be the one fooled?

Thank You Meg!

That was great research you did there.

This morning it occured to me that Enigma may have been thinking about Sayed Qtub.

He is considered the father of the modern Jihad movement. And his book "In the Shade of the Quran" , and other works, are considered the seminal work that inspired Bin Ladin, Al Qaedia, the Muslim Brotherhood, etc.
No....if I was thinking of Sayed Qtub I would have mentioned the Muslim Brotherhood. Besides, he was Egyptian soI wouldn't have mentioned Afghanistan.

Sounds like the makings of a paranoid conspiracy delusion.... ;)

Even in the slim off chance he's not a fake he's unfortunetly irrelevant to the topic of cartoons and muslim thoughts about it.

American muslims are not nearly as extreme as European muslims and have not reacted remotely as badly as European muslims have to them. American muslims are much more moderate and more integrated into the American mainstream than Europe's muslims and on top of that a white, American born, recent christian convert to Islam can offer no perspectives about this topic besides that of a peculiar, possibly insane American man, most likely to have been converted in prison as most American muslims with extremist views are if he's not fake.

Sorry, Sunni Man, but either start a thread explaining why you think Islam will overthrow western governments or stop spouting ridiculous negative muslim stereotypes that make people assume you're a fake. Your mother in law was not grief stricken in bed all day after hearing of the cartoon, you peculiar sock puppet.

edit:
When the cartoon was published it was absolutely one of the most terrible things imaginable to the Muslim friends I know.

My father-in-law became physically ill when he saw it in the news. And my mother-in-law just heard about the cartoon, and stayed in bed all day from grief.

Not at all.

Islam has a great intellectual history of socratic type of discourse.

But once again, it needs to be within the framework of decency and morality.

The framework as approved by the religious authorities?

Could you explain to me what is decent and moral about wanting to kill an artist because they painted a picture of your imaginary friend?

.

To become a Muslim isn't difficult.

After some study of the religion and correct intent in your heart.

On Friday, in front of the assembled congregation at a Mosque. You repeat in Arabic the Islamic statement of faith (shahada)

"There is no other God but God", "and Muhammad is the Prophet of God".

That's all there is to it. There is no test given. And no certificate is handed out.

From what I understand, the Founding Fathers instituted free speech so that the average person could criticize the government and not be arrested.

But in our modern day secular society. Free of speech has come to protect porno movies, XXX language, and every kind of slanderous speech and immoral
behavior imaginable.

Yes, I believe in Free speech, but within boundries.
Then, you don't believe in free speech (I don't either but our ideas on which part should be banned differ).

Gather a dozen KKK in Mobile, Alabama.
Have them start shouting the "N" word.
Would the violent outcome be predictable?

And fun to watch (but I'm not a KKK fan - or it's equivalent, violent religionists. Oh, that's right, I forgot, the two are exactly the same - the KKK is Xtian and against people not like them and Muslim fundies are Muslim and against people who are not like them. Both push violence to protect their "honor" and religion - and ultimately neither has honor.),

Mohammed and Abu Bakr had a great chance to appreciate the complexity of nature that functions without the intervention of a God, when they were hiding in that cave from the polytheists.

When the polytheists concluded nobody was in there because a spider web, woven across the opening had not been broken (They went in before the spider wove it), Mohammed could have been brought to his knees not by the God who asks his children to fear him, but by the incredible complexity of the web's remarkable evolution through time.

Why worship something that was created?

When you can worship the creator of all that has been created.

Really?!

You mean all the guys that convert to Islam in jail (with no mosque) aren't Muslim? According to a few Muslim men (real Muslim - not fake like you) at work anyone who truely wants to convert may do so on their own before allah and no witnesses are required. So either you are lying or you have been lied to. I believe you are lying.

You worship an imaginary, unobservable super being with a harsh set of rules and penalties for acting in a manner that he does not approve of?

It seems much more nonsensical to me to worship some cosmic boogeyman.

I'd rather worship a bag of chips, or a lava lamp, anything.

This is most likely the last response you will get from me.

Since all you seem to do is attack and call me names. I thought this was an intellctual forum?

To answer your question: Any clean room can be considered a mosque.

No I wasn't converted in prison. You have just been watching too much TV

I have a good friend who is a Muslim prison chaplin.

Most prisons have a room or sanctuary that is used for religious services by Christians, Muslims, Jews, and other recognized beliefs.

Did I say you converted in prison? Tell you what, make that your last response since i and quite a few others here have seen through your bs story and have identified you as a bs artist.

ETA - I guess the ritual shower after conversion must be witnessed also...

Everyone is messing with you, because you are claiming that you want to have an intellectual discussion, yet at the same time saying that your goofy religion should be allowed to shut down free speech and intellectual discourse if it runs against your pretend deity.

You also seem like a troll.

This is why you aren't being treated very nicely.
