Law of Attraction: Superior Woo

LOA is not judgemental; it is simply a gear in the machine.

Of course it's judgmental. How else do you define "negative" and "positive" but in terms of good or desirable and bad or undesirable? Purely a judgment since there's no objective measure.

You're certainly not using these terms the way physicists do--like with polarity. As Schlitt pointed out, in real science, negative and positive attract, not negative to negative and positive to positive.

StarSeed said:
Being as there is no hard evidence or science yet, it will be perfectly easy for skeptics to shoot the idea down even after they fully understand what the LOA is truly about.
Heh, no kidding. But you already knew that before you first logged in here, didn't you StarSeed?

The only Law of Attraction you've managed to qualify after all your word-salad is the one that's obviously responsible for chain-yanking woos like yourself to go out of their way to "mess with the skeptics." We bug your kind, don't we?

Good.

The info is all coming from the same source, essentially, that being channeled spirit guides. So the knowing is faith based until you prove it to yourself.

How do you know spirit guides are real?

The thoughts of every one of the 6 million killed in the death camps were predominated by starvation and murder? That's absurd.

The thoughts do not have to be that specific, although specific thoughts can help to bring about a specific outcome.

There was a negative climate that built up to the holocaust. Germany did not go from gravy land on Monday, to hell on earth on Tuesday. This gradual energy build up, combined with information and rumours going around after the really horrific events began, all added together to create the reality.

Just recently a nutjob opened fire in the City Council meeting in Kirkwood, MO, a suburb of St. Louis where I live. Some of the people killed had no connection to the shooter at all. But their deaths were attracted by their "predominate thought energy" (which seems to be a BS way of saying "what they thought about most of the time"). I'm certain that none of the people murdered were especially negative-minded people.

The predominate thought energy for many people, probably most, is what Abraham refers to as the "what is", i.e., 'the way things are'. Iow, if we are told that our city has a crime rate 10 times that of another city, we take it for granted that, in general, we are 10 times as likely to be a victim of crime in this city as compared to the other one.

We are raised with statistics, facts, science, ect, as if it is essentially set in stone, and can only be altered with physical work. LOA tells us different. LOA states that we can create our own reality, however, through ignorance or conscious choice, we can allow the "what is" to govern our lives.

We can live our lives according to statistics, or we can choose to play by our own odds. We can create a reality where we are not prone to the whims of statistics and contemporary politics. We can create a reality independant of the "what is". We can completely control our destiny.
But you're saying that the victims were 50% responsible for their plight (and the murderous perpetrators only 50% responsible). You're saying what separated a person who died in the death camps from one who escaped was their thinking.

That's just ridiculous.

Thought energy, yes, creates our reality. Physical action is the manifestation of that thought energy. LOA does not state that physical action is worthless and has no value. It definitely has value. But with utilization of LOA, we can minimize and eliminate the negative manifestations, and minimize the physical action that do not have an interest in, instead manifesting physical situations that we do desire to participate in physically.

Details, like what the third dimension is?
You haven't had elementary geometry? So you think you can converse on speculative theories of physics but you don't know the very basics?
The words "vibration" and "plane" have real meanings, but since you don't even know what the 3rd dimension is, it's obvious that these are just cool-sounding words that have no real meaning the way you use them.

Yes, I've had geometry. The definitions may be different; I am using them to convey an idea, and to that end, they do have value.

StarSeed,

After you answer G_i_T's question, please tell me which test and what needs to be its outcome in order for you to question the validity of LOA.

Thank you

As in a single test? It would take more than one, but I've already laid out a decent starting point in prior posts. As to how many it would take would depend on the nature of the tests.

Of course it's ridiculous. What separated a person who died in the death camps from one who escaped was their ACTION.

The secret says: Ask, Believe, Recieve.
Reality says: Ask, Believe (it's better to believe than not to but it's definately not compulsory), Act, Recieve (although not always).

The LOA does not diminish the power of action.

The woo meter seems to have gone up exponentially here. Starseed, is this Atlantis/Soul thing related to The Secret in any way? Or have you completely moved all of your belongings into Never Never Land?

And chosen by whom?

I have many beliefs about the nature of the universe and the history of mankind. The LOA is a recent discovery.

As far as what is related, from my view they're just truth. I accept them on faith for the time being. The story of Atlantis and our true heritage is in the history category, and LOA is in the yet-to-be-discovered physics category.

I think we have real piece of work here, folks.

The Woo Is Very Strong With This One......

When a baby dies of cot death, a couple of weeks after birth.
Who was it that made the concious universe do this?

Abraham has stated that even in the womb, the baby is thinking on some level, processing thoughts and being influenced by thought energy. While LOA says that no one can forceably create your reality for you, you can, via ignorance or choice, allow someone to influence you. You can choose more negative vibrations, which line up with negative outcomes. These vibrations can come from anyone within your circle of influence. In the case of the unborn, this would mostly come from the parents.

In the case of infant death, the infant is almost certainly not choosing to die, but rather it has chosen more negative thought patterns, which has lead to a negative outcome.

Jftr, in my belief system overall, this infant, and everyone else, never really dies. We all live on and reincarnate as we see fit.

You accuse people of misunderstanding, but in reality it is simply you who is not seeing the big picture. If we all exist in this universe, then under this concept my wishes are going to effect others, it is as simple as that.

They can affect others, if the recipient allows it. But the affect of thought energy is limited to influence, until it manifests physically, and then we may be forced to take action to deal with immediate physical problems.

I can sit in a room with a radio playing a baseball game. I can choose to listen to that game intently, and get involved emotionally, or I can 'tune it out', and read the paper instead.

There are plenty of negative, horrible people who have extremely successful lives, who think the secret is a load of BS. Then you have people who are positive, optimistic people who believe the secret, and they die horrible painful deaths.
If the secret does not work for these people who believe it, but seems to work for others who think it is BS, then even if it were true, it would be meaningless.

It can appear that way until it is fully understood. To reitterate, there are more than 2 variables involved. And the LOA is not dependent on what you believe in order to function. The LOA is always functioning. You can choose to consciously utilize it to your benefit, or ignore it, but the gears still turn.

You will realize in a few years how untrue the law of attraction is, once you come to realize that all you wish for does not come true, and the things you have been attributing to the LOA, would have happened anyway.

I hope to know sooner than a few years.

This new age fad will die out soon.

As i said, read up on confirmation bias.

Watch this, and try relate it to the secret, and how you will wrongly attribute events to the secret;
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jk6ILZAaAMI

I'll check them out.

Yes, I've had geometry. The definitions may be different; I am using them to convey an idea, and to that end, they do have value.
No, you're attempting (and failing) to use real scientific terms that you quite obviously don't understand in the false hope that it will make your fake science sound legitimate to the general masses. Your misusage of these terms add nothing of value to your explanations.

Please don't project your other self-deceptions onto us. How about sticking with your original claim and topic, as you've completely lost the bubble here.

So, to summarize, for LOA to work:

- You yourself but absolutely believe without any doubt. Questioning the method causes doubt. No questions must be asked, only pure belief.

No. Everyone starts with some level of doubt. You must work to gradually eliminate doubt by replacing it with evidence from successful experimentation.

Questions can always be asked, and many do. The answers are available at the bookstore if you have a few bucks, or you can try the library.
- You must remove from your life all sources of doubt -- books, news, any media which may lead to different toughts

Hmm, well, if you want to experiment with the boundaries/equation of LOA, then you must work to minimize doubt. People will be attracted to LOA when they are ready for it. It's not possible to have the idea shoved down your throat. When an individual is ready to begin experimenting with it, then they will also be ready to take the necessary steps to minimizing roadblocks.

- You must also remove all contact with anybody around you who may doubt

No, that's not necessary in every case. Remember, it's the balance/direction/magnitude of your personal thoughts that set your own reality in motion. Just being around someone that you know disagrees won't necessarily provoke doubtful thoughts in you. However, listening to them lecture you on your stupidity for an hour solid might!

- If it doesn't work, don't doubt and don't question, just keep waiting

Is it just me, or are these common themes in any successful cult?

I'll clarify: DO question, if you have a question, and DO doubt the effectiveness of the method, your approach and your analysis of your own mindset within the experiment.

The fact is, that most people aren't going to stick with something for 10 years if it shows them zero results. A few perhaps, but most will move on. I would. But I won't move on until I have legitimatley tried every recommended approach.

Ok, mr Christopher-Columbus-Sucessor, then whenever you have the evidence to create the Paradigm Shift necesary in science, you let us know. But as I said, you are the one making the claim and you are the one who has to provide the evidence. Do you understand that basic principle?

My point is: It's not up to us to prove you wrong. It's up to you to prove yourself right about your claim.

No one is telling you to climb back to your hole. No, please, by all means, enlighten us. But do it with evidence. Otherwise, keep your ideas to yourself.
No offense.

It's an open forum, for "friendly and lively" discussion on the topics at hand, as per the title page. I doubt the TOS requires me to provide peer reviewed science before opening a thread. If you are that dissatisfied with the idea, you're free to choose another thread, or report me to the moderator if you think I've actually violated a board policy.

For the record, telling me to keep my ideas to myself is.......not exactly friendly, but I suppose it qualifies as lively.

I am rather enjoying the discussion, even in a hostile environment. I did not come here to jerk anyone's chain. I came here for a fun discussion, and to clarify what is actually being claimed about LOA. If I had evidences to back up LOA, I would surely provide them.

So which is it, the baby that is commiting suicide unwittingly, or the babies parents murdering their child unwittingly?

I cannot belive you can swallow this nonsense.

In the case of infant death, the infant is almost certainly not choosing to die, but rather it has chosen more negative thought patterns, which has lead to a negative outcome.

This is ridiculous, if this were true, then it would be random chance whether you ever made it out of childhood alive. If you have genetics which cause you to worry, look out! the universe is going to invent some disease or accident to kill you off.

Do you realise how absurd the law of attraction is?

A baby is completely unaware of cotdeath, how on earth would vibrating negatively attract all of the components that make up cotdeath?
Cotdeath does not have a vibration...

Jftr, in my belief system overall, this infant, and everyone else, never really dies. We all live on and reincarnate as we see fit.

Great, another belief you have no evidence for...

They can affect others, if the recipient allows it. But the affect of thought energy is limited to influence, until it manifests physically, and then we may be forced to take action to deal with immediate physical problems.

OK so a murderer is better at the secret than his victim?
How ridiculous.

If something good happens, it was because you are good at the secret, if something bad happens it is because you are bad at the secret.
This is a meaningless, concept.

I can sit in a room with a radio playing a baseball game. I can choose to listen to that game intently, and get involved emotionally, or I can 'tune it out', and read the paper instead.

Yes, but try as you might, you will not effect the outcome of the baseball game.

I understand what the theory behind it is, it is very simple concept. You thoughts create your reality, whether you want them to, or not. However there is one spanner in the works. This is simply not true!
You are a participant in the universe, your thoughts have nothing to do with anything, apart from your own self and how you choose to act. The whole LOA is just made up, with absolutely no scientific backing. It is a load of rubbish made up to sell books to people who desperately want magic to be real.

I hope to know sooner than a few years.

If you are really convinced, then why not practice every day, every hour of the day. After all, if it were true and you could magically create your own universe, then you needn't bother worrying about school, working, finance, housing etc etc...

Amusing as would be to see you waste your life away on a fairytale concept, i hope you do not.

When presented with questions as to why the secret clearly does not work, all you have offered so far ammounts to "Oh, they just weren't good enough at the secret".

A very convenient excuse.

Much of the clarification I give is being brushed off, which leads you back to the same questions that I have already addressed. The LOA many here are trying to dismiss is one of their own fantasy, not one that anyone is actually following.

The analogy I used earlier about wrecking the airplane could be repeated here, but I'll just let you scroll up.

As with anything else, (assuming LOA is real), it must be fully understood and applied correctly to see the results you want to see. You can't put diesel in a gas vehicle and expect it to run.

It is a very brilliant money making scheme they have going here. Captilizing on human natures natural tendancy towards confirmation bias. When something good happens, they will attribute it to the secret, and when something bad happens they think "Damn, i am not good enough at the secret" and buy more material. It creates a cyclic thought process, and therefore a continual money making scheme.

It does take time to aquire skill in any area. No one rides a bike perfectly the first time.
If people actually had a sound knowledge of physics, biology and were able to examine these concepts critically, they would immediately see all of the things which contradict science. There are however very few people with this kind of knowledge.

Do you actually think that a scientific background would automatically wipeout humanity's natural tendency towards spirituality? Even if metaphysical ideas were in fact complete BS, the human spiritual component would never be eradicated except perhaps through heavy psychotropic drugging or genetic engineering. It's a core component.

Starseed:

How is the LOA falsifiable? You mentioned earlier that this would be difficult. However, I pointed out that it shouldn't be too hard. How would the universe function if the LOA were not true? What could a person do* to demonstrate that the LOA is not, in fact, real? (The assumption is, of course, that if the LOA is real, the person wouldn't be able to do that thing.)

*or not do, as the case may be.

... Even if metaphysical ideas were in fact complete BS, the human spiritual component would never be eradicated except perhaps through heavy psychotropic drugging or genetic engineering. It's a core component.
{Bolding mine} Source, or just because you believe it to be so? You really don't seem to grasp how poorly you're arguing your case.

StarSeed, can you elaborate on what kind of coincidences you see as evidence of this working in your life? It stands to reason that good things happen to us all from time to time, so how do you know they wouldn't have happened anyway?

If you look at the people featured on the secret most of them have degrees, have worked for years in their fields and ultimately have become succesful. I don't see how a LOA is required to explain how they got where they are now, it's just normal cause and effect.

I apologize if my reply seemed agressive but I just get tired of the old argument: "Many ideas seemed crazy at first, so give my idea a chance". That is a fallacious argument. Just because many good ideas seemed crazy at first, that doesn't give all crazy ideas more value. What gives a crazy idea (or an idea that might seem crazy at first) more value is evidence, reasonable arguments to support it and some sucessful experiments that prove that such phenomena is actually real and not just some dellusion of the person based on what he would like to believe (which is why people get these ideas in their head in the first place).

The problem is that you and many other people with these claims make the same basic mistake: You don't even know what the concept of "Evidence" is. I have read from your posts that you have evidence that LOA is real based on your experience. If personal experience was considered evidence, then we would have a lot of evidence on the existence of flying unicorns and pinks elephants everytime a junkie or a schizzo had one of their hallucinations. Personal experience does not qualify as evidence.

In suggest you go to youtube and check some of Daniel Dennett's lectures on evolution. Daniel Dennett is not only a remarkably intelligent guy, but he's also an excelent speaker and listening to him is really fun and mind opening. Do check him out if you want to hear some serious studies on human conscience. And by serious, I mean supported by science and not faith-based beliefs.
(Here's an appetizer: http://youtube.com/watch?v=wIdxbJyvfNw)

If I had evidences to back up LOA, I would surely provide them.

And that's the problem. No evidence.

I could present the same situation with a claim that I can turn wood into gold.... I got no evidence but I sure as hell have a crave for fun discussions!. Well, yes, it can be fun to discredit woo sometimes, but other than some lively trading of replies, we're really going nowhere.

Much of the clarification I give is being brushed off, which leads you back to the same questions that I have already addressed. The LOA many here are trying to dismiss is one of their own fantasy, not one that anyone is actually following.

You are simply repeating yourself, and not providing a satifactory answer to the question. What you are saying does not make sense logically.

Where is the evidence that thoughts can attract objects?

Who determines what vibration level an object has, is a Knife a good object, or a bad?

Science shows us that opposites attract, how do you explain this?

A situtation is made up of many objects, with many vibrations, how does a situation gain a vibration level?

None of these questions have good answers, and i will tell you why, it is because the concept of the secret is flawed! it is nonsense.

As with anything else, (assuming LOA is real), it must be fully understood and applied correctly to see the results you want to see. You can't put diesel in a gas vehicle and expect it to run.

I and others on this thread fully understand the concepts. They are not hard to grasp.
The problem is, you are not understanding the illogical ramifications these concepts have. They are nonsensical when you look at the big picture.

A young child of 4 dies a leucemia.
A young child of 4 dies of miliaria.

You say they brought it upon themselves. Assuming they attracted negative things, who decided to give them different diseases? Both were unaware of the respective diseases. Who categorizes which disease will have which vibration level, and which to give to each child.

Another child choked on a baby rattle. How can this baby rattle have a negative vibration? If the childs negative thoughts are attracting negative things, then why would they choke on a benign object such as a rattle? It is the circumstance which is bad, not a rattle. Who categorized and formulated that situation with a vibratory level that corresponded to the child? Surely usually a child playing with a rattle is a good thing?
The fact this happened has nothing to do with the child or anyone elses negative or positive thoughts. It had to do with the actions the child took, and the situation they were placed in.

You are looking at the concept of the LOA in such a narrow manner, missing all of the ramifications that it would have if it were true.

It does take time to aquire skill in any area. No one rides a bike perfectly the first time.

It is impossible to acquire a skill which does not exist.

Why do you think 92% of scientists are not spiritual?
http://www.lhup.edu/~dsimanek/sci_relig.htm

Understanding reality allows us to shed our superstitions.

IF you had an understanding science, you would not swallow this secret rubbish. I know many people who believe the secret, i know many who do not. The group that does, all has one thing in common, they have no education in the sciences, and cannot hold a conversation regarding science. Most of the people i know who realize the secret is BS are able to converse competently on many levels of knowledge and science.
The target market for this LOA tripe is the ignorant masses, who can be fooled by using scientific sounding language, but do not have to knowledge or the inclination for the real science.

Also, i notice there was a large portion of my post #117 you have ignored. Care to answer?

Check this video out.
David Schirmer was featured in the Secret book and DVD, as a financial expert who has supposedly mastered the secret.

I ask you, if the secret really worked, then why would he have just been busted for fraud, and owe numerous people money?

Please Respond, StarSeed

StarSeed, you never responded to this post, so please read it carefully and respond:

I began work with it about 9 months ago.

I have gradually raised my emotional state out of constant negativity into one of hopefullness and optimism. My daily affairs, work, interactions with others, have improved.
...
I'm hoping to be able to share the results of a 2 month long quest for 'better shopping deals'. So far, it seems to have paid off here and there.

After nine months using LoA, you have nothing to show but some warm fuzzy feelings and some shopping deals??? :jaw-dropp

Dude, the improvement of attitude is good, but your belief in magic is going to come crashing down on you, and that's dangerous.

The part of "The Secret" that really upsets me is the bicycle scene. A kid wishes for a bike really hard, then a sugar daddy buys it for him. Delivering a message like this to kids is a form of child abuse. A proper documentary would have shown the kid getting a job, delivering papers, packing groceries, something to let him earn the bicycle. Instead it teaches us that lazy wishing brings rewards. It's a horrible message.

StarSeed, you are lazy, you admit. That's why you've had an emotional state of "constant negativity." It's because the way you've gone about your life isn't working for you. Ladling on more magic, superstition, and woo nonsense may make you feel better for a while, but it doesn't work. Never did, never will. It's just delaying another emotional crash.

There's no sarcasm in this post. Think of it as tough love.

None of this is new, we have heard and read all of these pathetic arguments before StarSeed.
What you fail to understand is that it is all just made up.
None of it has any scientific backing, it is made to sound scientific, but it does not have on iota of scientific proof.

I don't believe that it is made up. I believe that science and exploration will eventually prove it correct, the same way many other things have been discovered and proven, such as the round earth theory, sub atomic particles, dark matter, ect.

The only reason these concepts seem plausible to you, is because you have no knowledge of science.

I do have some knowledge, and did take the standard classes back in high school, i.e., chemistry, physics, biology, and even planned on a career in science originally.

Getting a degree in physics would not disprove LOA, so I disagree with you. And how do you explain the scientists who are spiritual in some way?

If pressed to give an explanation of your thoughts vibrating, and the universe vibrating, i bet you would say something like;

"everything is energy, and vibrates, and when you vibrate at a good level, the univerese brings you goodness." or something equally inane.
The thing is, this is not an explanation. It gives no proof or real explanation of the claim. You are not describing the mechanisms of vibrating, or giving evidence. This is simply because the science ignorant target market for this rubbish does not require proper scientific explanations, they simply require that it sounds scientific.

Well, if I had better explanations, I of course would give them, but the fact is at this point, that intricate knowledge of the LOA mechanism is not necessary to work with it, anymore than combustion engine engineering knowledge is required to drive a car. I would like to see the same things the skeptics would on this: Evidence. And I am working on it in my personal life, but it takes time like anything else.

This whole concept has one very large flaw. If positive thoughts attract positive things. What determines which is positive?

Well, I say that's essentially a human definition. We define what we like and the reasons why we like it. Positive things generally lead to happiness at some level, negative things lead to unhappiness at some level.

Now how could a knife vibrate positively, and negatively? A knife is an inanimate object, its molecular structure and therefore "vibrations", do not change. So which is it, negative or positive?

As I understand it, vibration is really referring to the overall consciousness of the object, and I know that's a stretch on top of a sretch for skeptics, but the idea is that all components of the universe, and in turn the systems they are a part of, have consciousness of some level, and choose to play a role in some way.

The knife, or more specifically the atomic components that it is comprised of, have chosen to play the role of 'elemental material', or building blocks at this point in time. The 'knife system' is not complex enough to understand concepts like ethics. It is simply playing the more generic role of 'the building block'. In this role, it is essentially open to any and all vibrational patterns.

So you see for The secret not to be rubbish in relation to this story, we need to place the object into a context, in which it can become negative or positive.
So, how does the universe to create a whole series of events made up from objects vibrating differently, to respond to these peoples vibration? The situation as a whole needs to correlate to the persons vibrations, not the objects. And this would require a very intelligent source to do this. The one negative subconcious thought of a person is clearly not capable of doing this via vibration alone, because the context contains far to many elements each with their own vibration. For it to be true, it requires an intelligence to assemble and arrange the situation, and then impose it upon the individual.

I agree with some of what you are saying here, although I understand you are just speculating within the idea, and don't really believe it. You're pointing to a superior intelligence, or what I would call God, the god force, or new agers call Source or the 'All That Is'.

Yes, it is infinitely intelligent. We are all born from it, and Source knows its' own body and components very well. It is a master of itself and everything born of itself. So intelligence isn't a problem. LOA is merely the core mechanism in the god source.

What science has discovered thus far are the macro-systems of the universe. These complex systems, by the nature of their complexity, combined with the limitations of science, can easily appear to function a certain way based on certain rules, but when we have theories that seem to work most of the time, or can be proven most of the way, but never all the way, this is a potential indicator that there are more basic systems and rules at work underneath the macrosystem.

I beleive that LOA, and other things yet to be discovered, will ultimately better explain how the macro systems work, and will patch all of the holes and inconsistencies that science is presently hung up on.

While the idea of LOA may seem far fetched compared to the conclusions of modern science, the idea by itself is really not zany, implausible, or unethical. It basically says that 'like attracts like', speaking from a consciousness point, not from the macrosystem perspective. Simple as pie, relatively speaking.

It's not unethical, as some would see it, because it gives every conscious unit the free will and power to control its' own destiny, including the power to allow someone else to seemingly control their destiny for them. Iow, once mastered, no one can harm you. No one can starve you, enslave you, kill you, or deprive you.

The system we believe in now, more or less, is one where the innocent can not only be made to suffer now, but for as long as the universe exists. We have a system where the unlucky are just flat out of luck, and at the mercy of politics, or some hairbrained group of nuts, or what have you.

Ethically speaking, LOA actually is fair and equal. For those that seem to desire a universal mechanism that protects the innocent from harm, well, you know what that requires: A god, and we're all atheists here, right?
