The case against Dr. Paul

Because it would be.

There are much better weapons that can be used. Such as the much cheaper Air-to-Surface Anti-ship missile. Something that a squadron of fighters could launch against a carrier. As good as the Phalanx is, I'm betting it could get overwhelmed if enough is fired at the ship.

Honestly, where the hell did people like you learn about the military? Tom Clancy novels? TV shows like "24?"

Good news you are not running a nation.

You would not; during war, destroy a powerful carrier group with an ICBM because they are expensive.

No, I would not use an ICBM to destroy a carrier group because it would be a waste of an ICBM, considering that ships in a carrier group do not usually travel mere yards from one another, but oftentimes are separated by a mile or more.

Instead, as I said, you would use the weapons specifically designed for the anti-ship role. That means using Air-to-Surface anti-ship missiles, Surface-to-Surface anti-ship missiles (fired from missile boats, cruisers, destroyers, etc), and the ever useful torpedo (launched from a fast-attack sub).

An ICBM would be a waste.

Apparently you are a college kid. You might start educating yourself with WWII history with the Institute for Historical Review.

Ah,yes,The IHR, where Holocaust Denial is the main business of the day.
I would say what I think of our resident Nazi here, but using that kind of language is against the rules....

It is saddening to see the state of education today.

Tea tax, right!

I though I already went over this with you.

This whole Bank of England nonsense regarding the Revolution is a myth. It's a fake.

In fact, I'd like you to produce a quote that backs it up (make sure it's cited). I'm betting that it's going to be that Ben Franklin quote that supposedly came from his autobiography. Am I right?

The US isn't a Constitutional Republic anymore. The Constitution has been all but shredded by our corrupt government. We've become a socialist regime. The government manages everything -- just like under communism! There are regulations galore, endless taxes, horrendous spending. The government represents something like 50% of the GDP. That's not socialism?

And the guy who says this admires Authroritatrian dictatorships like China and Russia..which if it is not a Dictatorship will be one in a couple of years.
Wow.Just Wow.
I am fully expecting dash to ,in a few days, explain who 9/11 was a perfectly justifiable act.
Ya gotta love all these "patriots" who seem to take such joy in hating their country.

Please evidence that the tea tax was the cause of the revolution.

Some time late 2006 Bush stated that the US must be capable of operating in outer space, and if necessary deny other nations the capability of operating there.

January 11, 2007 China responded by firing a missile that took out one of their own satellites. NASA was concerned the debris would cause a chain reaction -- crap hits other satellites, which explode releasing more crap, which hits more satellites...it doesn't seem to have happened.

It's possible. I mean, it's their job to worry about that.

November of 2007 during American Naval exercises near Taiwan a Chinese submarine surfaced, undetected, right in the midst, right near the supercarrier USS Kitty Hawk. This caused great consternation and scrambling of activity by the Americans.

The words 'it happens' mean anything to you? While it is a problem (and DR can correct me here, but I think he said it's likelier with older submarine types) it isn't systemic proof of oh, well, the US Navy sucks, lolz.

Aircraft carriers. How many billions of dollars do they cost? How many billions do all the aircraft on the carriers cost? How many carriers do we own? Why do we even own them?

They're the most potent force WWII had to offer. At least until the nuclear bomb. Nuclear bombs make aircraft carriers obsolete. They've been obsolete for 60 years, yet we still own and maintain them.

Because ICBM' vs. aircraft carriers is a) they can move away and b) not what they were devloped for and c) a sledgehammer vs an ant?

If China, Russia or probably even India, or a number of nations in Europe wanted, they could take out any of our carriers whenever they want. It's a simple matter, really. Just fire an ICBM (Inter continental ballistic missile) with a nuclear payload at one. China and Russia have spy satellites that can guide the missile right to the target -- the flight deck of the carrier. The missile will be closing at around 15,000 mph. The payload can break up into a number of independent nukes. They all go KABOOM! and the carrier and its battle group is toast.

Once it's launched, IIRC, the path is locked. But nice try.

The US can't win any war over middle eastern oil. Russia and China won't let us. We can move a few carriers over there, prepare to launch bombing missions, then R+C will say, "I beg your pardon? We'll have none of that." They simply can't allow the US to have a stranglehold on the world's major oil reserves. It's death to them. They can't allow themselves to be at the US's mercy to that extent. If necessary they'll just lay in a nuke, take out the carrier, and all the bombers won't have anyplace to land. That is, the ones that weren't destroyed with the carrier.

Hmm. Strangely they haven't done it yet. One wonders why.

Iraq is a disaster for the US. It's prime entertainment for China and Russia. It's America's equivalent to Russia's disaster in Afghanistan. These countries don't want a world government dominated by the US. They're laughing at how we're killing our economy and our credibility in the world with the ongoing failure in Iraq. They're perfectly content to let us waste our resources and energy in this ridiculous play on control of middle eastern oil. They know they've got veto power if they need to use it.

OK. Right. Sure. Got any proof besides bare assertions?

China's not the bad guy. Neither is Russia. The US is the bad guy today. We're the bully. We can't compete on a level playing field, so we invest our energy in building the biggest club we can get, and we think we can have everything our own way. That doesn't work anymore.

:dl:

Let's see. In terms of military capability, US has nukes. Well surprise, so do Russia and China. We've got missiles and spy satellites. Well so do Russia and China. We've got aircraft carriers and fantastic fighter jets. Russia has them, China probably doesn't. But they're obsolete anyway. We've got 300 million people. China has over a billion. Our government is bankrupt. China's government is doing quite well monetarily.

I'm almost afraid to point out that this is an unfair comparison. Almost.

The US bankrupted the USSR by goading them into a military arms race. The USSR collapsed, the US just went heavily into debt. That debt has just kept growing, and growing, and growing. China has learned a message from history. If the US gets in any sort of cold war with China, they'll bury us. They can outmanufacture us on a moment's notice. Our cost of labor is sky high. Theirs is far more reasonable. We'll get destroyed economically in any attempted military contest with China.

I'm sure you believe that. Strangely, so do a lot of otehr people, and that's why everyone is worrieda bout the national debt.

We can't bully Russia and China. For a while we can bully little countries like Iraq and Saudi Arabia. But they're getting bold and they're starting to stand up. The US Empire is over, dead and gone, "See ya!" The world's moved on. If at any point it looks like the US might actually take strategic control of the world's resources, China and Russia will prevent it, one way or another.

... we bully countries? I'm sure you have some proof

The US is dumbed down, remember? Our population is the dumbest it's ever been in history. Our schools are expensive daycare centers. We don't need to earn our living, we just need to borrow from the rest of the world. Our colleges have lowered the bar so much because our graduating high school seniors are ridiculously unprepared. School in America is just getting easier and easier.

Right. Proof?

Schools in other countries are much more effective. Their students study hard, knowing that knowledge is power. Ours play video games. Our parents play World Of Warcraft. We watch TV all the time. While we're playing games, borrowing money to live the playboy lifestyle, these other countries are busily building the new economic powerhouses of tomorrow. They want to come to the US because life here is so cushy -- and they're so much more prepared to thrive in our society than our own people. Wages are higher here because the US controls the world's reserve currency, the US dollar. We write the rulebook.

Proof?

When it comes down to maintaining the American lifestyle, Americans have started to indicate, "Don't give me the details, just get it done!" They used to just turn a blind eye. Now they knowlingly condone preemptive attacks. "You don't like us? We kill you!" That's what the Americans are saying.

Proof? (Although, as a side note, the entire "just get it done!" is worldwide... or at least it's in England too)

America's bullying days are at an end. The empire is dying. It's on its last legs. The dollar is collapsing. The UK and EU are collapsing as well, but the US is failing first. Don't believe the propaganda that the US consumer is driving the world economy. That's pure fantasy. If the US were to suddenly stop consuming, all the other countries that are producing would start using their own products. We're not driving the world economy, we're holding it back.

Right. That's why the otehr stock markets are falling too. And why wer'e not ... you know, at this point...

Anywy. Proof that we're holding it back?

The US isn't a Constitutional Republic anymore. The Constitution has been all but shredded by our corrupt government. We've become a socialist regime. The government manages everything -- just like under communism! There are regulations galore, endless taxes, horrendous spending. The government represents something like 50% of the GDP. That's not socialism?

Nope.

Say bye to the American Empire. Let's hope this is the last empire the world will ever know. Say no to world government, we don't want that. We don't want it to be that there's no place to escape to, as one world government would mean. Say no to one world currency.

No, we want the same collection of sovereign nations, all independent, all competing, all with their own currencies and monetary policies. All trading fairly with each other. Free trade. Under this scenario people would migrate to whichever country they wanted to live in. Survival of the fittest. Go to a free place and you'll thrive.

... paranoid much?

We don't need any more empires. All the US needs is enough military to protect ourselves from outside aggression. We don't need to be able to fight two major wars on two fronts at the same time. There can't be any more Hitlers bent on world domination. Nuclear missiles make that obsolete. You start invading neighboring countries, like Germany did before WWII, and your homeland will get nuked. Simple matter, really. Everyone plays by the rules. If you want to conquer a neighboring country, treat it like an economic merger. You buy it.

Poossibly. There's a reason why there is a nuclear non prolieration treaty. As it is, Godwinned!

I'm ashamed of my country these days. What have we become? We're not the good guys anymore. We're the bad guys. This is a great trajedy. We can't blame the politicians for this one. We're all responsible, because we tacitly OK everything they do. We should all be ashamed of ourselves.

But don't worry, justice is coming, and right soon. As Nelson from the Simpsons would say, "Hah hah!"

Werent' you gone forever? Please, go back to be gone forever.

(*Note, youtube videos are not proof.)

We can add naval warfare to the long list to things that Jerome knows nothing about.
BTW, I don' t have the figures but I think an ICBM..including a nuclear warhead...costs a hell of alot less then a Nimitz Class Carrier.
Although Wildcat is right..the launch of a nuke against a US ship would be the end of the civilization as we know it.

I have already provided documentation.

Please evidence that the tea tax was the cause of the revolution.

Documentation?

Of the Franklin quote? From his autobiography?

It never existed.

And I wonder if you ever attended a history class, or actually paid attention. There was no single reason for war with the British.

However, it should be pointed out that, of the 5 Intolerable Acts, FOUR of them were a direct response to the Boston Tea Party.

I'd really like to see the answer to this question! When was this mythical era of the US being the "good guy"?
Oh, I think you could make a pretty valid argument that the US was the "good guy" in World Wars I and II, and when we came to the aid of Kuwait in 1991 after it was invaded by Iraq.

The tea tax itself was not the cause of the American Revolution, but it was the spark that set off the powder keg.
Jerome, do you get ANY opinions from non crackpot sources.
