He claimed none--only said it was his bet.
As speculation goes, Musharraf is plausibe, but so are other candidates including the Taliban.
A sad but predictable event, I'm afraid.

In all likelihood the assassin was (and I stress this is just a guess) some sort of extreme sharia fanatic type who wanted Pakistan to have some sort of Taliban style leadership.
Whoever it was and whatever he stood for I'd be willing to bet it wasn't anyone connected to Musharref.
It's a damn shame, because I thought she was the best hope Pakistan had for the future.

Already reports of rioting in various cities. Security at the rally Bhutto was speaking at was described as "farcical"; evidently she was not allowed to supply her own.
Also, Pakistani reporters on NPR note that there has essentially been no investigation whatever into the first bomb attack that greeted Bhutto on her return to the country.

Kudos for NPR: The correspondent said that the lax security is not unique to Bhutto but is common to nearly all Pakistani politicians, even to some extent Musharraf. Pakistanis are accustomed to crowding politicians to touch them and speak to them. For Bhutto to have separated herself from the crowd would have been an affront.

In this case I don't think so. Musharraf himself is subject to attempts on his life. You have to stop and ask if he really has the means to arrange these attempts (this is the second attempt, and this time it succeeded) and keep it secret. And I don't really see how Musharraf is now better off than he was yesterday. Sure, she was a potential political rival, but now she's a martyr and who knows what sort of instability this might lead to.
