African shaman performing levitation

insidespace, I'll put the opinion and attitude of most of the forum members here as succinctly as possible: You believe this "Shaman" is actually levitating and that it is not a trick, prove it then.

That is essentially what happens when someone makes a claim here. They say I believe X and we ask for proof while offering alternate solutions.

If you believe the "Shaman" is real, let's see him perform in a situation where there can be no doubt whatsoever to his ability. If they laughed at Edison and Einstein as you claim, remember, both of those gentlemen came back with experiments, tests, and replicated observations. Both men were able to have their claims replicated by others.

I would like to see your "shaman" come to TAM 5.5 and levitate.

OK I saw the stupid video on David C. "flying". Obviously faked. This is Hollywood screen production, not a serious video claim of levitation. I don't know how they do it in Hollywood and in the big special effects studios, but I assume anything is possible. Note: Mr. David Copperfiled is *NOT* a Shaman or holy man, is not from Africa, where I suspect anyone who can still do this like the ancients did it, is.

So, no, I don't believe David Copperfiled can fly. I am not that stupid to believe anything I see is real.

But, I have to take a man (or woman, sorry) on face value, at lease until he (or she) proves me wrong. If you get thrown from a horse, well its the horses fault, but if you get back up and get thrown again, its yours. See what I mean?

So, I think if that was a real Shaman he would not lie to get attention. There was no showing that there was any "fee" charged for the Shaman's services. Unlike David Copperfiled, who makes more money than G-D (sorry for the profane reference). Put it this way: if there *IS* such a thing as a Shaman, who is from Africa, where I know there are still such powerful men, then would he demean himself by making a fake think for the U.S.A. Internet? Can't imagine that. He would be laughed out of his tribe and no longer be their medicine man. And where would he go then? To the U.S.A.? Its obvious he might not be believed here either, so its best for him to stay there, whereever "there" is (as I asked above, I need the latitude and longitude and I can find it. Did the original poster ever provide that?) If it turns out its Indianapolis or something, then, hey, you got me with egg on my face!!!!!

Yeah, they laffed at Edison. They laffed at Einstein too.

Heck, they even laffed at Jerry Lewis, and look where he is today.

Okay I did not see that recent post. I have not considered the use of "voodoo" which I did not know was really African, but was from Haiti I thought. However, the slaves who live in Haiti might have (did) come from Africa so maybe that is where they got the practice.

Voodoo has *never* been proved impossible. Time time again, they do things the reporters cannot understand. I know for a fact this is true because I am from Miami and remember when they were looking into this. The Miami Herald used to run stories of voodoo people. Sometimes they hurt their enemies with doll likenesses, and Jackson Memorial Hospital had a bulletin in their emergency room that they should ask people who seemed to be sick or injured for no apparent reason, whether someone had cursed them (this was only for native looking people from Haiti) with a voodoo doll. So why would the Emergency Room doctors at Jackson Memorial Hospital, who were certainly as smart as anyone, actually ask abouit whether a person could have had a voodoo curse, if such a thing were truly *Impossible*???? If you look at back issues of the Miami Herald I think this would have been in 1972 or 3. And it said, like, Jackson doctors not discounting anything and interviewed this doctor I as remember who said the human body is mysterious and no body knows why some people get well and others die. I remember that because I was in high school then and did not believe in voodoo, mostly because (as I now know) I thought I was better than the black Haitians.

So, aren't there doctors who say voodoo *could* work? And aren't there physicists who say that levitation "could" work? As to whether it would be a great "discovery", sure, if they would let it out.

Remember, a guy discovered a way to get 100 mpg out of your car engine. That was proven in Popular Mechanics Magazine. And what happened to that "discovery?" It was poo-pooed and eventually he was forced out of business by the powerful oil companies who did not want his invention to succeed. So, there are powerful people who do not want these Africans to show them that things can be done with the mind. It would *really*hurt the U.S. aerospace business to acknowledge anything like this is possible

But, as I learned then, keep an open mind!!!!

Why is it significant that this man is from Africa? You seem to be suggesting that there are ancient secrets known by African shaman that are not known in the Western world. If so, why do African nations have higher rates of AIDS, poverty and hunger? If a shaman can levitate, couldn't he also cure the sick and feed the hungry?

insidespace - Nice dodge on the whole "effects of gravity" issue.

Seriously, if you are just hear to ramble on and on knock yourself out but don't expect much in the way of real discussion.

As to your one question: And aren't there physicists who say that levitation "could" work?

The answer is NO, as any legitimate physicist would understand the effects of gravity (or lack there of) on a body in motion.

But isn't it nice African shamans get some time in the limelight, not just the Asian ones?:D

Where in Africa is this "shaman" from? Africa is a continent, not a country. Which tribe? Does this tribe have holy men who proves their holiness by levitating?

Better and better. Congratulations.
Note: Mr. David Copperfiled is *NOT* a Shaman or holy man, is not from Africa, where I suspect anyone who can still do this like the ancients did it, is.
And then you lose it. And btw, it's "Copperfield".

So, I think if that was a real Shaman he would not lie to get attention. There was no showing that there was any "fee" charged for the Shaman's services.

Ok, read this. There is no such thing as any man who can levitate. Unless you can prove that statement wrong (emphasis on "prove"), please don't mention it again.

How's school going?

And now I think InsideOutside is pulling our legs to see if our skulls are too numb to feel it.

Why do I think that? Because in my disgraceful past I sometimes did the same thing on believer sites.

It seldom works for long.

So, aren't there doctors who say voodoo *could* work?

Nope.

And aren't there physicists who say that levitation "could" work?

Yes. Levitation does work.
lev·i·tate (lv-tt)
intr. & tr.v. lev·i·tat·ed, lev·i·tat·ing, lev·i·tates
To rise or cause to rise into the air and float in apparent defiance of gravity.

There are many ways of doing this. Many are just tricks, some of which have already been described in this thread. Others involve the use of other forces, notably electromagnetism. What isn't possible is what you are claiming, that it is possible to levitate using the power of your mind. Physicists do not say that this could work.

As to whether it would be a great "discovery", sure, if they would let it out.

You mean it's so well suppressed that any random person can put videos of it on Youtube, and they don't even get taken down later? Why are all these global conspiracies so incredibly incompetent?

Yet another urban legend is brought up...

Gotta' be a troll at this point.

Oh my god!!! I'm flipping out from you!!!
I asked you to think of the Copperfield video as if he was dressed as a shaman and forget voodoo, replace that word with some AFRICAN magic thing, it doesn't matter. Could you then believe it was real? If Copperfield was some unknown dressed as a shaman, declared himself to be a shaman visiting the united states (that could happen right?), would you believe he could really levitate?
And why are you obssesed with AFRICA? I live in Israel which is a neighbour of AFRICA. Believe me, there is nothing special there just a lot of poverty, hunger, disease and war (war we also have in Israel unfortunately). You can't drink the water there and it's hot as hell. Please answer my question above.

And oh man, you now believe in VOODOO as well!!!!

Tell me something, do you want to be a million dollars richer? do you want fame and fortune? do you want hot chicks? You've got it all man if you can prove ANY of the claims that you've made. Any one of them. Just one!

:faint:

How can I make this easier?
think of the video of copperfield dressed as the black shaman and telling everybody he's from darn AFRICA (sorry to all the Africans here). He's doing the levitation stuff. Do you believe it's real?
Oh man, of course you do!!!!!!

But please answer.

Yair

Wrong, wrongo, wrongy-wrong! This is NOT a Hollywood screen production, but a videotaped stage show. There is a stage. There is an autidorium. In the auditorium facing the stage, there are real people sitting in real seats on their real bottoms watching David Copperfield (note spelling) rise and soar around on stage. They cannot see any wires or supports. Therefore David must be flying, right? If not, why not? David Copperfield's ancestors came from Africa, by the way. How do you know he is not holy?

How do you know that shaman is holy, come to that?

And why won't you accept the fact that his method of levitation might be (and I'd say the overwhelming weight of probability dictates that it is) just as mundane as the method used by Mr. Copperfield?

Oh man....has me really wondering if this is not in fact Gary Trudeau.

And if there was NO SHOWING that there was any fee then that's enough for you to KNOW that there was really no fee. Wow!!!
Of course it's impossible that after the filming was stopped he was paid.
Not saying that I KNOW he was paid but could possible have been.

Uh, yeah, open mind. Check out

regarding the high-mileage claim. Popular Mechanics confirms that some cars can get 100 mpg, all right--but only by sacrificing things like weight and space. The high mpg cars weigh very little (in one case less than 400 pounds), carry only the driver, and would not be suitable for tooling around town, zipping down the Autobahn, or providing for a tryst on Lovers' Lane. The tale of the genius and his invention is just an urban legend, as can be readily confirmed by a little research.

If you have an open mind.

Ok poll time. Next claim from insidespace; whadda reckon ?

Magnet therapy
Roswell
Homeopathy
Telekinesis
911 cover up
Faked moon landings or
Russian girl who can see inside bodies like an xray

Well, where's he been? Levitation, flying dogs, voodoo, 100MPG cars, UFOs, cosmic vibrations, limited telepathy (can detect when others look at him)...

There is no way to know what he will make up next. It's a troll, he's screwing with everybody. And let's not forget, driving hits to his stupid video.
