Audiophilia - From skeptic to believer

Seek medical attention.

Imagine a guy without legs, he tells everybody "I don't need any legs because I can do everything from my chair". Then there's another guy who also doesn't have any legs, but he tells everyone "This is unacceptable, I want legs I can run with!". Then there's a 3rd guy who says "Why not make those legs even faster!". Now who is the insane person? The one who tries to evolve and improve, or the skeptic who stands still?

The person that tried to biologically evolve himself would clearly be insane.

I never said one has to be cheap, just not dumb, 10 gauge is more then needed. Gold plated ends for no corrosion.
Yes, 10awg is way more than needed. 10awg gave me less low-level detail than a thinner cable. If skeptics can't hear the difference with wire thicknesses, then there's a problem, how can they hear a difference from other tweaks? The thickness of the wiring needs to be optimized first, and then you can experiment with different materials.

I have found that 15-17awg sounds best for power cords. 22awg for interconnects and DC wiring.
Stock cable sounded better than $3000 power cord just because the stock cable is closer to the optimal thickness. Audiophiles who are using thick cables are making the sound worse but they like it more because it sounds warmer and more "musical".

There first sign that it is all in you head and not real, if it was real you wouldn't have to tweak it again. But I think you will not understand that, because I couldn't get my friend to understand that either, and all he did for 25 years was tweak the wire. Oh it is OK now, he would say and then, oh no it isn't OK, tweak again and again and again. You guys just don't get it that ii is all in you head.
I was already satisfied with my system like I said in my first post. But then my system broke and I got worse sound, but it still sounds acceptable even with a crippled system. I knew immediately my system was complete because it could handle the speed of Psytrance music. Previously the transients used to blend together and I couldn't listen to that genre, I had to choose slower trance music. But after some time of tweaking my system got higher resolution and then I tried Psytrance again, and there was no blending of transients. That's all I wanted, I don't need it to sound better than that. That's why there is no reason to continue with the audiophile hobby. As long as I'm able to listen to music without complaining it's good enough. If I complain my whole life that I can't hear the music properly, and suddenly I do, then it's pretty obvious I don't need to tweak anymore.

Now with my crippled system, it still has enough speed for my reference trance albums. I don't listen to Psytrance anyway, I just used it as a guide to see how much further I needed to tweak my system to get it up to speed. I'm not going to spend anything more on my audio system because I have found the truth. Finding the truth is more important than repairing my system. It is better to spend the time in finding the truth about something else than walk the same path you already have walked.

Insane, how about a person that only uses themselves as the base line, a person that only uses themselves has the tester and the one being tested. A person who shows no real data to his so-called test. One who expects others to trust his wordy so-called tests outcome. One that shows strange pictures of himself and wonders why people think he is off the deep-end.

Insane, you are sure trying for that one.

Ok, so the humans who have evolved from apes are insane, and the ones who have remained apes are sane?
So you are saying, humans are insane and apes are sane. Evolution is insanity. Why bother evolving if it's pointless in the end. Just wipe out all life and keep it that way. That's the skeptic's way of dealing with their ignorance problem.

It's not hard to figure out who are the most evil people on this planet. Either the ones who like to build and improve, or the ones who like to destroy. Stalling the progression of something is still destroying it, skeptics fail to realize that.
Imagine scenario #1: Someone builds a house, he completes it in a year and then someone blows it up. Then someone else builds it up again and the terrorist blows it up again. Then it gets built up again but the bomber gives up. The total time to build that house took 3 years instead of 1 year.
Scenario #2: Someone starts building a house and then a skeptic comes and interferes with his double blind tests etc. The building of the house gets delayed and delayed until it's finished after 10 years.

So who is worse, the terrorist or the skeptic?

I was already satisfied with my system like I said in my first post. But then my system broke and I got worse sound,
Yea, it broke, you either shorted it out with that dumb paper and/or over heated it with that dumb paper.

I'll answer the question once you give me the name of a person that was born a primitive ape and evolved into a human.

Is it because you have tried it or because you have made yourself believe there isn't a big difference because you don't want to spend the time in upconverting the videos?

1920 (source) 143 KB

3840 (Video Enhancer) 407 KB

Actually, I have tried it, although I have no reason to upconvert a 1920x1080 video as my display runs at 1920x1080 native. I've done plenty with upconverted resolutions in computer programs, ES, and all video enhancer is doing is running a decent quality anti-aliasing pass on the video. There's really not much else you can do with an image when you blow it up, other than various anti-aliasing algorithms, or funky stuff like Super Eagle or 2xSai (etc.) that are more useful for 2d games where the slightly cartoony look they produce isn't crap.

Looking at your two images, they are exactly the same quality. The higher resolution one is not more detailed, or better looking, it is simply larger. The video enhancer has done a decent job of smoothing out the pixels that would otherwise appear when zooming the video, but it still hasn't added anything that isn't there. Basically, you gain nothing over someone watching the same video at 1920x1080 except you smooth it out so your display doesn't make it look crappy.

Well, to be fair, the aliasing does make the image look a little blurrier when you upconvert it on my work display (thus, the originaly image looks much better on my display - much sharper and crisper, with less visible pixellation), but that's because I'm not stretching the 1920x800 image to fit my display. If I were stretching both, they would probably look similar, as the 1920x800 has to be stretched one way or another, so you might as well anti-alias it while you're at it.

The only value of upconverting is to stretch an image to fit a higher resolution than the source resolution without it looking pixellated. Ultimately, you cannot produce detail that wasn't there in the first place! The optimum resolution depends on display size and viewing distance anyway, so it's hard to say what would be ideal in all situations. At a certain point, the human eye can't discern the difference between 720p and 1080p because the display is too small, or too far away. In that case, it wouldn't matter if you unconverted and anti-aliased the image, or simply stretched it. If you're 15 feet from a 32" display (an exaggeration to show a point), your eye can't tell the difference.

ETA: Basically, how far you're sitting from your monitor will probably make the call. If you're only a few feet away, you might want to upconvert with an AA pass simply because you'll probably see some pixellation when you're close. If you're back more than about six to ten feet, it probably won't make much of a difference. Also, keep in mind the original source resolution/sharpness and things like movement and fine detail in the video will make a big difference.

There's a lot of video codecs than offer customizable AA passes and various deblocking filters. They're still far more useful with lower res (e.g. 480p) sources, as it's simply a matter of mathematics.

But don't take my word for it, hook up an HD-DVD or Blu-Ray player and try it for yourself. Use a recent HD release with nice, sharp detail. I'd suggest something like "Blood Diamond" - it's nice and crisp, and a good film too!

I don't know if Video Enhancer will work on the output of a BR or HD-DVD drive on the computer. My guess is probably "no" (it doesn't mention the feature on the web site, and an HD-DVD/BR player on the PC will cost you another $99 on top of the drive's cost), but go ahead and give it a shot.

Nobody can be born, it is just an illusion. I thought you were a skeptic.

It's pretty obvious my own skepticism goes deeper than any other skeptic in this forum. But they fail to realize that because of their limited way of understanding. They sit inside their box and think the cave doesn't get any deeper, but it does, I'm below them! That's what makes them confused. They think nobody is a skeptic other than those who sit inside the same box with them. They are not true skeptics, they are fake. I'm the real skeptic because I go deeper and deeper. I move all around the box instead of stay locked inside it, I even open up the box and visit you, I'm all over the place. Aren't you curious about my name? ExtremeSkeptic, Location: Everywhere.

Does it make sense yet?

More silly talk, you have no idea about what you talk about, but you sure do like to write a lot of BS.

Imagine two cloned skeptics, both are inside a house looking out to the forest. They flip a coin and the loser needs to go outside into the forest to get food. When he comes back from the forest he says "I found a new species and it could fly!". Then the other skeptic says "Silly talk, you have no idea about what you talk about, but you sure do like to write a lot of BS", then he tells him his name and smiles 3 times.

It is...Ive set up tons of them, back when they were under a company called DMC. Its really a good deal, and more than I would really ever need. Back when I actually played I had racks and racks full of gear so "I could be totally versatile" and yet I always just ended up using one sound...

It was like using a modern Core2Duo dualcore to play space invaders.
Yeah. At this point I'm actually working backwards, trying to make that "one sound"(actually about 5 sounds, total), sound as good as possible, instead of trying to have the capacity to sound like everything. That, and trying to make the switching as little like tap-dancing as possible. :D

ExtremeSkeptic is DJJ is disguise! I knew it all along. You false skeptics just couldn't see because you were two clothes minded! But us true skeptics(tm) can understabmd his words well.

No he;s not. I bet you can;t even SEE why! STUDY THE MATH!

The one who thinks they can make their legs faster by wrapping them in tinfoil.
