carlson test and debunking randi

I studied palm reading. The book I was studying was by by a famous palmist named Chiro. Overall it was an interesting experience. I got older and came to a startling conclusion. My readings were full of crap. I'd believe in that though before I'd believe in Astrology.

well i find cheiros numerology accurate.
Like his bk says important things in my life tend to show up on my birthday and derived numbers.
i was born on the 9 january and important days are 9,18(1+8=9), and 27.
also age 45,now, has been very important
my mum was born on the 8, and her dad died when she was 8, my dad died on the 8th june, she married at age 26.

thers a way to test cheiro.
his nmrology book says your birthday number represents important years and dates in your life.
i was born on 9 january. Good things tend to happen in the series of 9, like 9,18,and 27 of any month.
also in those ages and age 45, 54 etc
January is Saturn, whch is rulesd by the 8. In my case bad things happen on 8s. in my case it is accurate. I also tend to end up in Hotels nmber 8 when i travel:)

You will not be able to see your posts as long as we are in August, being the 8. month and thus a very bad month for you.

no, the 8 rules saturn the january planet.
august is ruled by the Sun, the number 1.
anyway i wouldnt trust numerology on its own.
but a bad astrological period and a bad numerological day can cause damage

Ah - so the number is "important" if it or a number "derived" from it, is an age or day of the month ...

... but not if it is the calendar month, only if it is the "astrological number".

Questions:
  • How did the magic behind numerology decide whether to use the month's calendar number or the "number associated with the astrological sign"?
  • Why isn't there an equivalent of the astrological day number instead of the calendar day number?
  • How do you define "derived" numbers? Is it only sums of digits? Why not multiples also?

Seems to me you can find a pattern if you look hard enough - doesn't actually give the pattern meaning. Can you predict anything with your pattern?

folks
i just sent Dr kitten the final test.:)

And I just got it. Unfortunately I'm "on the road" just this instant, so it
will be a couple of days before I send them around to the team. So,
stand easy, chill out, smoke 'em if you got 'em, et cetera.

And thanks, idunno.

no bloody idea!!
And Cheiro took his secrets to the grave.
But if it helps my mother was born on the 8th, her dad died when she was 8, and her husband on the 8th june.
you can see for yourselves if it works or not. check any numder related to your birthday and see if it matches important ages inyour life, days, building numbers, phone numbers you name it:)
I never checked this system for hidden persuaders yet.:)

sorry thats an old one. i studied astrology and i can assure you he follows tradition.he doesnt uses asteroids, nodes and such crap

Well, if he doesn't use asteroids, he can't really be very accurate then? After all, many asteroids are quite large and much closer than, say, Pluto. And what about Sedna? Did he forget about that? Does he remember to account for when Titan is eclipsed by Saturn? If he doesn't take things like that into account, he clearly can't be a very good astrologer.

Well, actually, he can. That's the problem.

... or you could try taking a completely different "day of the month" number and looking for a pattern on that and you will probably find one if you look hard enough. What does it prove other than we can impose patterns if we want to? If we took a lot of people, and looked at their a persons day of birth and the age they were when their father died, some (a small number) will be the same, and some (many more) will be different. So what?

There will be a peak of correlation for people born on the day which matches the curve (average life expectancy - average age of father at birth). :book: Since
  • the average life expectancy in Europe or North America since WW2 is in the region 65-75 (source),
  • and the average age of fathers (in the UK since 1980) is around 30 days (source)
then the most common "age at father's death" would be 40 .... what exactly is the 40th "day" of any month?

At the extremes, some people will be -9 months when their father died, and some will be in their 70s, there will be people of all ages in between, but virtually all will not show any such link. We can move on to every other co-incidence you have listed so far, but that's all they will be shown to be ... a coincidence. This is pattern matching. Get over it.

Exactly. And if this actually worked, one should be able to predict something before it happens.. instead of looking back in hindsight and seeing what dates happen to fit.

  • Why don't the various arbitrary calendar shifts since astrology and numerology were made up mess things up completely?

Because the cosmic energies that govern numerology simply adjusts to the new situation!

Or perhaps because it's all just guff made up by fallible humans?
How typical of you skeptics to say something like that! You do not understand that the universe is based on mathematics: everything is math, and numbers is math and numerology just explores this relationship in scientific way ;)

Wait a moment: There should have been the word "quantum" in there somewhere ... or was it "vibrations"?

I agree that confirmation bias can go on rampage when dealing with numerology, but as i said, i havent checked yet whether i tend to overlook other numbers that show up in my life or not. When testing numbers we may say tghings like ,theres number 9 again and ignore the 1,5,6 ane so on that show up everyday. But it seems the real important stuff comes withe 9s. I ll check and you may check too cause its piece of cake.

By the way wheres Dr. Kitten:boxedin:
