carlson test and debunking randi

So a Troll is someone who wants to show something that goes aganist your personal biases.
Thats pretty Sinnical:D
Well if you are talking about my personal biases then your powers are indeed mighty.
I've revealed nothing about them on this thread, certainly no bias against astrology.
No, I call troll because despite your insistence on being 'tested' you have shown no great urge to take part.
I've seen evasion after evasion, plenty of vague 'I s'pose' and stuff like that, but nothing of any utility to the subject of the thread.
You seem to be employing some sort of 'bait and switch' strategy just to keep people hangin' in there till you've had enough.
Just my $0.02.:)

In case you were wondering, it's this type of comment that makes people suspect you are a troll. You seem more interested in getting a rise out of people than discussing astrology.

what have i been doing other than discussing astrology.
certain things are hard to answer in a forum thats why i dont answer them.
and its true. Not all of us can spend the whole day in the forum:rolleyes:

skeptics often ask astrologers what kind of tests they want, to prove astrology.
Well i dont know exactly what test would do but i can tell you that regarding chinese astrology, when i meet someone, 8 out of 10 times i find in their charts what i expect to find.
If you wish you may draw a test from here:)

example

here is an example.
a few minutes ago i saw the German youth soccer team beating Serbia. A chap called Tyrala scored a goal thaty required originality and creativity.I expected to find Drastic output highly visible in his chart and here it is

born:22 feb 1988

day month year
yin fire yang wood yang earth
yin earth yang wood yang earth

hour pillar is unknown. drastic output in this case is the yang earth in year pillar. In 5 phase theory Fire(his self) produces earth.Since the earth is of the opposite polarity it is called Drastic instead of gracious output.Drastic output or performance is more agressive, original and revolutionary than Gracious output, more conservative and quiet. The element our self produces represents creations, productions, self expression, performance:)

you can get your chart free in the websites www.astro-fengshui.com or www.chinesefortunecalendar.com

Now, if astrology actually worked, you could predict in advance who was going to score, and make good money by betting on sporting events. It's what I'd do if I could predict the future. Let us know if it works out for you, eh?

if astrology predicted the future life would be useless.Dont you see the ridiculous.? Astrologers claimed to be able to do that to make more money.
In a rainy day you can choose go out or stay home. In a bad asttrological period for business you may choose to do business and fail or keep quiet, otherwise you need extra effort to succeed, but astrology doesnt say so and so will happen.Or if it says, it takes a lot of concentration and eye for detail and patience to find out:rolleyes: what it is

Well, let's. We find ten people who know nothing about Chinese astrology. We flip a coin to decide if they are to be "true" or "false." We either tell you their birth dates, or tell you a made up birth date. We pick this date at random by generating a number between -182 and +182 and adding it to the real birthday. They are not told what birth dates we gave you.

You prepare a list of questions. There can be as many questions as you like, but the list must be pre-screened in advance to clear away possible hints as to their real birthdays. You do not need to ask all the questions. You must read questions from the agreed upon script.

I don't know anything about Chinese astrology. Would two people born six months apart be expected to be completely different? Anyone pick any holes in this protocol? Could this be done online?

I am not sure exactly what the test is doing here. Is idunno supposed to match people to their birthdates based on a questionnaire, or is he supposed to try to determine which are the true or false birthdates based on the questionnaire?

He has to say true or false, based on the interviews. He claims he can get 80% right.

All righty-then. In that case, you may need to set how the questionnaire will be answered, i.e. multiple-choice, true/false, essays less than 100 words, etc. The questionnaire design will obviously greatly impact this test, and as such, I would recommend away from the essay-type answers, as it could give the astrologer too much wiggle room. Have him agree to all questions and possible answers ahead of time. I think idunno has me on ignore, so he will probably not see this response.

By the by Linda Goodman once said we are 80% our Sun sign. I think we are 80% or close our rising sign. There are exceptions but....:boxedin:

No, I don't really see this. Maybe I'm missing something though. I dunno ends up with a bunch of videos or transcripts or essays or whatever and is required to say was this person born on such and such a date. Yes or no?

The biggest problem would be if someone gives away something by saying "I'm a classic Virgo" or something like that. Maybe you could get around that by choosing a random date inside the person's Western sun sign range.

I don't really see the wiggle room. Sure, after the test is over he might say "well I missed this one because I wasn't sure--up here she said this and that would fit so she was 60% yes and 80% no and I said no, but you see yes fits also." But they do that anyhow.

I don't really think this is the best possible test, it was just a direct response to the claim idunno made.
