I did this back in high school physics, something you apparently missed.

Why do you think a pendulum could not keep Finsrud's little machine running for at least 40 minutes?

Right. Which is why devices like this have to be precisely machined and carefully cleaned and kept in glass cases. Unless you keep friction very low, the energy from the pendulum soon runs down. In the video, Finsrud says something to the effect that the device is so finely balanced that if you speak too loudly, it will stop.
