It is quite certain Peter spent his last years in Rome

When last I checked 1 out of 4 Americans are Catholic (I should know, I was one of them). I would say it has to far more to do with the need for Politicians and Pay TV news services to suck up of a quarter of the dimwitted population than any factual authority held by the RCC.

To be fair, the Pope is technicaly a head of state and JP II was an integral player in the dissolution of the Warsaw Pact, and at least a bit player in the dissolution of the Soviet Union ending the Cold War. I can see why they would have attended his funeral regardless of religious belief. I expect to see a number of surviving former Presidents attending Gorbachev's funeral for the same reason.

This has nothing to do with whether Peter's possible burial underneth St. Peter's Basillica is a fullfilment of prophecy or whether the Catholic Encyclopedia is an objective or trustworthy source or not. And I think joobz's questions amplify this fact.

For those of you not familiar with DOC's modus operandi in his "Jefferson..." thread, these sort of non sequitor arguments are just typical for him. In his warped mind, the fact that W. and three former presidents attended JP II's funeral = Peter buried under the Basillica = fulfillment of prophecy.

I always thought Peter spent his last years in Miami, since his ungrateful son wouldn't take him in.

Well maybe God wants you all to have something to think about.

What exactly did turn Peter around from a scared ****less wimp into "the man".

I guess you also have to wonder what turned Paul around also.

So you've abandoned all pretense of academic discussion in favor of outright preaching?

You're not going to get far with that.

Why do some people just not seem to grasp what a non sequitor is? What the hell does any of this rambling have to do with whether the Catholic Encyclopedia is an objective and trustworthy authority or not?

Pope is the head of the Catholic Church -- Catholic Church created the Catholic Encyclopedia -- The pope believes in and approves of what is in Catholic Encyclopedia -- The pope was extremely admired by the world and 4 US presidents who traveled 6000 miles to his funeral. The world and 4 US presidents extremely admire someone who trusts and believes that the wafers become the actual body of Christ after blessings. We know the world and 4 US presidents believe the pope is trustworthy. As far as objectivity one could say objectivity is in the eyes and mind of the beholder. Maybe one day you'll realize there are things of greater importance than objectivity.

You've committed two logical fallacies: Arugmentum ad populum and argumentum ad verecundiam.

Of course, this is par for the course for you, DOC.

Maybe one day you'll realize there are things of greater importance than objectivity.

Such as?

Again, all of this is off point. Your argument seems to reduce to:
Paul was in Rome because catholics say so.
Since the catholics say Paul was in Rome, this proves....what?

You have failed to answer, Why does it matter? what is the importance of this.
see this post you failed to address.
DOC, please explain why it would matter if Peter was in Rome?
Would it mean anything to you if someone was to claim;
1.) Muhammad definitely was born in Mecca!
2.) The Buddha defeinitely sat beneath the Bohdi Tree!
3.) J.K.Rowling Definitely wrote the 7th book of Harry Potter while drinking a nice cup of joe!

These may or may not be facts, and are so mundane as to have no meaning to themselves. Their truth (even if they are true) do nothing to prove any greater truth.

I hope that was meant to be a parody, because if I'm out for a walk and some fundie chases after me with a hand puppet asking me about Jesus, then I'm afraid that Lizzie The Annoying Christian Iguana is going to spend eternity in some puppeteer's rectum.

It's from Wondershowzen, which is ridiculously subversive. No, they are not really Christians. :)

Preaching again.

No one here cares for a sermon, DOC.

And you argument is full of logical fallacies.

Surely you cannot be as dense as you are pretending to be. This has got to be some sort of joke...

DOC, compare your reasoning with the following reasoning and please explain the difference.

Richard M. Nixon was extremely admired by the world and 5 US presidents. Because G. Ford, J. Carter, R. Reagan, G.H.W. Bush, and W. Clinton attended the funeral, we know that President Nixon was trustworthy.

Don't bother asking, unless you are expecting a sane response. I wouldn't hold my breath.

Makes sense -- How 'bout, Doubting Thomas (make that St. Thomas for the Catholics). He should be the patron Saint for Randi Forums. Last I heard he found several churches in India. Those apostles sure loved to travel.

You got to wonder what Doubting Thomas saw that turned him around also.
