The 767/757 used on 9/11 did not have GPS. No big deal. I can check again. I know 77 did not have GPS, it was not in the data set from the FDR. Plus the navigation errors were those of a plane using VOR/DME for updates. Cell phones worked in 2001, I used them in flight, I flew all the time. Handheld GPS works fine if you can "see" the satellites, also in flight.

A GPS is really not required since these guys knew how to use the VOR/DME and the bleedin' compass as well. Auto-pilot would also work for the purpose of getting the aircraft within easy visual of the towers. however,they were NW of NYC when they took over so all that one really needed to do was turn the aircraft about 150 degrees to be headed in the general direction of Manhattan. Desend down to 5000 feet and look for the tallest thing on the horizon.

Malcolm seems to believe that finding an enormous building sticking up from the city on a clear day, from 40 miles away is some great and impossible feat that no Arab could ever pull off even with some training.
