Yes, technological advances often come with side effects. That fact really isn't significant. The problem, in the long run, isn't the advances it's that we did not take the warnings seriously and we failed to make imporant changes in our behavior and failed to make important decisions that could have made a difference. If we had conserved more, built more efficent cars, used public transportation, etc., we could have made a difference. There is no reason to believe that we couldn't have most if not all of our technological advances and made significant reductions in green house gases.
