Okay, you can't make this up. Without the slightest hint of sarcasm, the folks at Reuters captioned the following photos, "Palestinians attend a demonstration against violence in Gaza April 23, 2007."

"Don't call us violent, or we'll shoot you!"
This after Hamas fired off a few rockets yesterday.

Haven't we heard this story before?

Wow. Things like this make me think that there's a certain portion of the brain that governs our sense of irony. It also makes me think that a large number of people completely lack this portion of the brain. The same goes for the sense of humor.

Haven't seen anything like this since a few months back when some middle easterners protested calling Islam a violent religion that murders by threatening to murder anyone who called Islam violent.

"Our religion doesn't kill people, and we'll kill you if you say we do!" Several actual signs were seen stating this as well.

What these pictures show are the extreme lengths Reuters and other news organizations will go to peddle the Palestinians as something other than what they are.

You can't tell from these pictures what these people actually are protesting. The one thing you can tell is they are not protesting violence.

Perhaps they're only attending the anti-violence rally in order to kill the participants?

why couldn't they be teenage girls protesting against nudity?

So what are they? I'm refering to "the palestinians".

Obviously no one would attack a large crowd of armed Palestinians, so actually they are preventing any violence from occuring.

Out of curiosity - are there any laws in Palestine that cover the carrying of firearms and other weapons

Yes.

It is illegal not to carry one. :boxedin:

:D

Palestine is such a dangerous place you'd have to be mad to not carry a firearm and since we know more firearms equals safer society can you imagine how dangerous the place would be if firearms weren't readily aviablable!!!

(Please note the above is meant to be humour playing on some of the arguments that are put forward for gun freedom in the USA.)

I suspect you meant protesting for nudity! unless of course you meant protesting against nudity the way the Palestinians protest against violence - in which case......NEVER MIND!!:) :D :)

When guns are outlawed, only Palestinians will have guns.

Darat, if you have to explain a joke... well, never mind.

It doesn't really matter what they are in the black-is-white world of Mid East international reporting, they will inevitably be portrayed as something else. Here the ones marching down a street shouting and brandishing rocket-propelled grenade launchers and assault rifles are peace protestors. If children are photographed with similar weaponry, Reuters will cheerfully label the weapon as a "toy" even when it's obviously not. When rockets are being launched daily against Israeli towns, it will be described as a "cease fire".

From the link:

"Cease-fire" is yet another hollow term, showing that the Palestinian representatives - elected or not, Hamas or Fatah or Palestine Liberation Organization-Tunis, from Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas to the last spokesman of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs' "Brigades" - keep falling into the traps set for them by the politics of Israeli occupation.

Yep. Amira Hass is yet another who can't imagine anything Palestinians can do to improve their situation, but who ascribes super-human genius level Machiavellian scheming to the entire bureaucracy of the Israeli government so that the poor Palestinians just can’t help falling into another “trap” set out for them.

Give me a break. :oldroll:

Im sure this was a protest against Palestinian-on-Palestinian violence, and wants the violence to focus on their true enemy, the Zionist/Freemason/NWO government...:)

The problem is that it might well have been possible to take lots of photos of unarmed marchers but such photos would not have much value compared to these. In a sufficiently large crowd, you can almost always find a few kooks. I don't find it hard to believe that a lot of Palestinians are sick and tired of all the violence.

But some of the posts in this thread make or imply blanket characterizations of Palestinians. Is it not possible that they are not a monolithic blocks any more than, say, the Israelis are politically monolithic?

Think that's totally Cho? How about the great sewage flood in Gaza which washed away residents in a tsunami of raw sewage... "Hamas gunmen, along with rescue crews, rushed to the search for residents." Were they going to save or shoot the flood victims?

Lets face it. There are places on earth where some kind of screwy alternate logic prevails. Palestine. Al Gore's office. Harry Reid's head. Just screwy.
