BUGGER. I was just feeling pleased at the long list of negative responses from UK police forces on the UK Sceptics site, and you have to go and show me that. That's really annoying. No offence to our Irish residents, but for ◊◊◊◊'s sake; what are they playing at over there?

EDIT - so it's not "official" as such, but still. Really annoying.

didn't mean to burst your bubble mate :-]
i would hazard a guess that when the leads dry up and the investigation stalls, "all lines of inquiry" are opened up. this then becomes fertile ground for the likes of diane lazarus and others of her odious ilk. notice they are always linked to floundered investigations like the 1999 young girls murder and the birmingham murder which took a long time to solve. odd huh?

strange that.....considering her claimed success of 98-100% you would imagine she would be a very busy lady with the police from all over the world on the blower before even the coroner is called.....thinking about it, why even have murder squads?

and are these phsycic murder trackers always women? if so, why?

Further to Bonavada's post above, this is the Sunday Mirror article.

Looks as though he handed himself on a plate to the police via the media. Could just be an attention-seeker though; how often do multiple murderers just give up?

don't know if he's given up les....it seems he was a prime suspect all along. the inference being that the police became interested in him after he spoke to a victims mother after that victim went missing.

and if the cops do take profiling seriously there are some giveaways and pointers in the interview. i think any policeman worth his salt would have been very interested in these titbits about Stephens:-

seems to have much interest in prostitutes
37-year-old loner
knew most of victims
had the means to transport the bodies
interest in other serial killers (mentions sutcliffe)
recently involved in relationship breakdown
can't provide alibis
Lived very near where the bodies were found. in fact admits to detailed knowledge of one or two of the body sites.
seems to indicate resentment about his dealings with prostitutes " I made compromises on my morals to go down (to the red light area)"
hints of a problematic relationship with his mother.

this guy seems like a profilers dream come true

makes me wonder... in the future, how easy might it be for someone to plug in victims myspace profiles, and for a piece of computer software to generate a suspect list.

Sound crazy? in south Korea, it is estimated that 90% of 20-30 year olds are members of cyworld... If you murdered a few of your aquaintances, I wonder how long it might be before the police knock on your door..

Looks like they have found him (Ipswich muderer). Everything is still under raps but he is 37 years old making at least one of the predictions true

Hi mate. Just type the URL and it should generate the link (if not, we can copy and paste). Is there anything new in it that's not in the links to articles in posts 60 and 63 above?

As for it being an accurate prediction, I believe the prediction was "Late 20s or early 30s (likely)". So pretty wide of the mark there IMO.

@Big Lees

Can't URl due to forum rules - need to have over 15 posts before being able to post a url

And yes you are correct - I misread the prediction. I thought it said late 20's or 30's - amazing how much your own brain can let you down !!

re: the predictions above.........6 of 1 and a half dozen of the other i reckon.
IF this guy is the murderer, it was a bit hit and miss to say the least:-
  • Male (definitely); CORRECT but then again about 99% of serial killers are male.
  • Late 20s or early 30s (likely); WRONG but not that far off.
  • Will commit suicide, move from the area or get caught (likely); POSSIBLE that all three of these could still apply.
  • Will try to kill again (belief); POSSIBLE but he's unlikely to get the chance now.
  • Won't dump bodies close to home; WRONG
  • Will find more victims dumped in other areas, perhaps even some years ago (suspicion); POSSIBLE
  • From Ipswich or the surrounding area, or commutes there (clearly); CORRECT
  • He is of above-average intelligence (suggested by dumping in water); POSSIBLE but hard to judge yet.
  • Dumps bodies in water as it is significant symbolically (alternatively); POSSIBLE
  • Had sex, or tried to have sex with some of his victims (possibility); CORRECT Stephens admits to this (paid for sex with at least one of the victims)
  • Sexually impotent, hence strangulation (probable); WRONG? See above
  • Not in a stable relationship with a woman (likely); CORRECT
  • Virgin (quite possible); WRONG see above
  • Likes younger women; POSSIBLE
  • Dominant mother (strongly suggestive); POSSIBLE Hints that Stephens' relationship with his mother was fraught. "I've been a terrible son"

There was one line in that Mirror interview which left me speechless. I have to comment! The reporter says --

MD: You have an English accent, not the same as other people from Ipswich or Norwich.

Er, an English accent? I was born on the Suffolk/Norfolk border and educated there. Really, somebody should have told me the fact before that I do not speak English! :eye-poppi:eye-poppi:eye-poppi

So far no mention of mediums/psychics in this case. Can't seeing it lasting.

JimTheBrit said:
"A WELSH psychic who has cracked murder cases across Britain today tells Ipswich cops: "I will catch the Suffolk Strangler."

Clairvoyant Diane Lazarus - who helped find TV presenter Jill Dando's killer - says she holds the key to solving the massive police hunt after receiving spiritual messages that a lonely young man is carrying out the murders as part of a sickening 'religious' ritual."

So..four days! Where's Rex Everything when you need him.The woman is a disgrace.
I have emailed the journalist, pointing out this forum and topics relating to her.

He would have to be extremely dumb ,if he is the killer, surely? A bit different from Huntley, who only claimed to have been a witness.

I'll stick my neck out and say it's not him.

I'm sure that quote could have been better written, but one would guess that he shows little sign of a regional accent or dialect. After all, an example of a Norfolk dialect is a little away from the usual English:

He yer fa got a dickey, bor?

Has your father got a donkey, boy?

.

i think huntley let slip a bit more than that.

i remember him pointing out that he was the last to see the two girls alive. i recall my mother saying at the time that it seemed odd that he would emphasise that on camera. with hindsight it's like as if he was sort of goading......
