Bumper sticker. . .(shudder)

Yesterday a driver in Los Angeles was reaching for the cell phone and struck a mother and child killing the child and seriously injuring the mother. What exactly was god trying to show the mother?
Perhaps . . . driving in America is a serious, dangerous business, so quit fixing your hair in the rear view mirror or you might get killed.

The Kathinator said:
Well aren't you lucky! I wish Jesus would come help me with some of my landscaping needs. I guess these are some of the things I can look forward to in heaven, I'm not much of a gardener.

If you don't speak Spanish, you may not be able to get Jesus to do the work.

Where was this so-called god for 13.7 billions years before a lot of dumb humans came along.

I guess screwing up other beings lives on other planets that where dumb enough to listen to it.

I'll guess that God was playing cosmic golf somewhere in the infinite firmament. If you have that long to work on your game, odds are you'll straighten out that slice and learn how to hit a cut knockdown into the wind from a hardpan lie.

Reminds me of the old joke:

Q: What should you do if you're caught on a golf course in a thunderstorm?

A: Hold up your 1 iron. Even god can't hit a 1 iron.

Yes, but Jack Nicklaus and Ben Hogan could.

That's why, when playing a match, The Golden Bear and Hogan both had to give God one stroke per side. Would you want to risk a lightning strike on the 15th hole? Big G gets a stroke per side!

(I hear Nicklaus usually pressed on the back and tended to win by making amazing putts)

I don't care how many billions of years I had, I could never do that! I guess that's why I'm not god.

But my brother did hit a 1-iron. Maybe only once though. No chance he's god either though, trust me on that.

wat im doing is saying what Scripture means to me; and pointing out that one should read and understand for oneself because my words are hearsay to you.

You still have trouble grasping this? or Are you being tedious?
I grasp it quite well, and I am not being tedious.

My point is that if the meaning of scripture is a matter of personal choice, which is what you are saying, then there is no meaning to scripture at all, and no basis on which to claim divine provenance.

You are being tedious, I dont believe you can be as ignorant as you seem to be.
Did I say " the meaning of Scripture is a matter of personal choice"? No!
How did you infer the same?
Answer that one smart guy!

It doesn't make sense. How does killing children help anyone? It sure as hell doesn't help the children. It often destroys marriages and lives. I don't get it.
I know I have had a hard time in the past especially when children die needlessly, at least that's are human side trying to understand the whys? I've spent some time researching some teachings on children being automatically saved if they die before an age of accountability and I really believe they are all in heaven already.

Did you read what I posted on the Job thread? it's on pg 3 don't know how to create a link yet?

Reference to Randfan quote in above post

So rand , what you are saying is abortion is wrong.
I wasn't talking about abortion. Abortion is a sticky problem because a lot happens in 9 months.

Human eggs are not sacred. Sperm is not sacred... well, to must of us, to some it is sacred. I don't have a problem with the fact that fertile humans destroy many trillions of sperm and egg every month. What happens after the two come together? 24 hours after conception the zygote consists of far fewer cells than the brain of a fruit fly. To me a zygote is not sacred. I personally have no problem with abortion in the first trimester. It is some time after that when I personally have a problem with abortion. I'm happy to discuss this if you should want to but I think you should take it to another thread.

This doesn't answer the question. Why do children die? If they go straight to heaven then why not kill us all while we are children? Why would a parent take the risk that their child will for ever suffer in hell by letting them live past the age of accountability? Your suggestion that children who die go to heaven raises many questions and answers none. It is an empty platitude.

There is a button in the lower right of your screen that says "link". Click it and it will copy the reference to the clipboard.

I read it. I found it disjointed and lacking in argument. When I was a missionary and people would ask me this question I had similar answers and some of the same scriptures and even others.

Kathy, I'm not ignorant of Christian responses to many of life's troubling questions. I've only found out that when you stop leaning on faith there are few if any answers about tragedy, cruelty and brutality. There is no purpose to a child's death. It's just tragic. When I was a child I grew up poor. I used to tell my friends that I had a rich relative that would some day help us out. I came to believe that lie. It was comforting. Eventually as I grew up I had to confront that lie. As Paul says, "When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things."

I could lie to myself and believe that those children are in a happy place but I personally would rather know an ugly truth than believe a beautiful lie.

Hey Rand, ty for your answer.
With respect to suffering. We live in the flesh. In the flesh we turn to God.
In death we choose life.
The flesh aint pretty, it reflects the spiritual realm. What we see in the flesh pales in comparison to the spiritual violence wrought over us. You are being fought for Rand, as I write this, with fire ferocity and fear as such you can never know. In the misty morning after, the fog of battle banished by the brightness, where will you abide? On which side?
Life or death.

There is your and others of so-called faith big problem, no matter what, you will make up something to make it OK for your god to do harm and or not be responsible for the world that it is supposed to have so-call made. What a pathetic idea of a god you have there.

Also you seem not to know the difference between the word “believe” and the word “real”. Just because you “believe” it does not make it “real”. What testing have you done, what cross-references have you done besides using yourself and the bible (has you see it), I bet the word is “NONE”.

Paul

" You must come unto me as a little child"

"Whoever hurts one of these ( the Children) better it be for him that a millstone was hung about his neck and he be dropped into the sea."

I am totally confident that Christ testifies before His Father for all the children who perish. If it turns out He doesnt then I will deny Him if He testifies for me.

P.S. Paul , you ever heard of 'the age of reason' its around 12 and before that your innocent, your acceptance of Grace is inherent, you paul are tedious.

That is plan BS, that is still a piss poor idea of a god, you would be burning women as witches in the good old days if you could.

I did not arrive at my beliefs in a haphazard way. I didn't simply choose to be an atheist to spite god or because I'm angry or bitter. I became an atheist as a matter of course. As I told Kathy, I decided to commit to finding the truth and not to let belief get in the way of that.

I don't know what "spiritual violence" is. You don't tell us. In fact you tell us little. Your post is simply rhetorical. You might as well try and convince me that elves are fighting to get me to believe in Santa Claus. Who knows, maybe they are.

Well sir, the very best I can do is suggest that 'emotional' replace spiritual in the text and you briefly reconsider it. I appreciate the difficulty in communicating my apprehension. I feel that I have gone off course with respect to the nature and purpose of the forum. I will try to do better in the future, barring my attempts at comedy of course which I am afraid will be inflicted upon you time to time ( I am working with a Doctor on this problem but things are not going well as he refuses to embrace my 'Prayer Program ' approach to psychiatry).
