This certainly doesn't help the current atmosphere against illegal immigrants, does it?

Dragged woman identified, was mother of 3

POSTED: 2:19 p.m. EDT, September 22, 2006

CASTLE ROCK, Colorado (AP) -- A woman dragged to her death behind a vehicle was identified as a mother of three from the Mexican state of Guerrero, the Mexican consul general said.

Luz Maria Franco-Fierros, 49, was identified through fingerprints, Consul General Juan Marcos Gutierrez Gonzalez said. Franco-Fierros was from the city of Chilpancingo, the capital of Guerrero.

Her battered, disfigured body was discovered early Monday along a subdivision road north of Castle Rock, about 20 miles south of Denver. (Watch police look for clues along the mile-long blood trail -- 1:31)

Investigators say Franco-Fierros had been dragged behind a vehicle for more than a mile, leaving a bloody trail. Preliminary autopsy results said she suffered fatal head injuries and strangled as she was dragged.

Jose Luis Rubi-Nava, 36, was being held without bail on a charge of first-degree murder.

Friends told the Rocky Mountain News that the woman lived with Rubi-Nava, even though he had a wife and children in Mexico. Cesar Gustavo Flores, 20, a roommate, said the couple sometimes argued violently.

. . . Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials said they believe Rubi-Nava is an illegal immigrant from Mexico.

So, tie him behind a large, hyperactive bull by his oblate spheroids. Whap the bull. Observe justice in action. (for CLE, I would have said the same regardless of race, creed, color, political party or other condition).

This was a horrifying crime. Somehow "first degree murder" just doesn't seem like enough of a charge.

So why did you think a thread about a brutal murder should be titled "What a drag!"?

Let me guess.................

"Club Paris" type prison settings for Senor Rubi-Nava here in the U.S. (like the rest of the American prison population) instead of menuto every day in a Mexican prison?

What should happen is that the guilty party in this crime is sentenced to identical concurrant sentences in the US and Mexico, then tied between two motor vehicles on the Mexican border which would drive in opposite directions. Then his remains be dragged to prisons in the two respective countries to serve his sentence. That, IMHO, would be justice.

Save the dramatics.

Shoot him.

Or hang him. Or electrocute him. Or guillotine him. Or inject him. Or ...............

Get rid of him...........

Wow, you managed to find another remotely related news item to bash against Bush! I'm impressed.

Calm down, Pardalis! Don't forget Bush is friend to the illegal immigrant, it's his GOP friends who are fueling the flames of ethno-centrism. I wasn't bashing Bush at all, so YOU in fact were the one who used my thread on this horrible murder to bring up Bush.

Well, first off she was dragged to death,

secondly, she was a mother of three,

third, she was living with a man (a real jerk) who was already married

fourth, it's a particularly horrible way to die, and

last, it's likely both she and her murder were illegal immigrants which will only make the case against ALL illegal immigrants as violent, opportunists.

Sounds to me like the whole situation was a drag.

(edited to add) I actually enjoyed some of the more creative methods of punishment some of the JREF members brought up for this creep. :)

I asked why you thought a subject as serious as this one should deserve such a flippant, offensive title, and you provide a flippant response. I thought it might have been a temporary error in judgement, but I was wrong - you're standing behind your callous, offensive title.

I've never gotten on your bad side before, Ladewig and I don't plan to start now. I was exhibiting the type of nervous, seemingly inappropriate humor you'll often find in hospital emergency rooms during times of stress. Humor (even "black" humor) is often the only way to deal with the notion that one human being could do this to another human being.

I certainly couldn't do any worse to this woman than has already been done.

There are things in this world that are too horrible to perceive and this certainly falls into that category. If my remark seemed flippant, I'm sorry, but the only temporary error in judgement that makes any difference was the one that got this poor lady involved with her murderer.

I find myself rethinking my stance on the death penalty more and more.

Side note:
Geez Mephisto, it's a bad day when you start a thread about some scumbag who drags a human being behind a truck only to get attacked twice in your own thread! You Bush-bashing, insensitive....ummm...err... illegal immigrant! ;)

Yesterday, NPR aired a segment on James Byrd, Jr. who was killed in a similar manner in 1998. I was already feeling a bit mournful because of that when I read your title. On reflection, I realize that I too have probably engaged in gallows humor when others thought it inappropriate.

Also, I find this board to be a welcome place to meet people who are fed up with the success of con artists like Sylvia and JVP, fed up with the criminally dangerously actions of faith healers and psychic surgeons, fed up with the multi-million dollar nonsense industries like astrology or reflexology. I sometimes forget that people use this board not only to discuss how we can reduce the influence of irrational thinking in the world, but also for a variety reasons including expressing feelings over injustices in today's world.

No sweat, GI.

I honestly didn't mean to sound callous and I just mentioned James Byrd Jr. in a thread recently so I actually felt kind of empathetic with the poor lady. It's a shame that many illegal immigrants often run into problems that sometimes intensify because they don't think they have recourse of the law.

This is doubly true for women as they are often mistreated and persecuted for religious, cultural and tradtional reasons within their society. I can only feel for those women who are too afraid to ask for help for various problems as well as their illegal status.

Yeah, if ever a case could be made for cruel and unusual punishment . . .

HEY! You brought up Bush, not me! ;)

How's the club? ;)

You're right. Sorry about that. :o

Between this case and this one:

I'm with you, schplurg. I am typically against the death penalty, but these two cases are really testing me. Then again, death somehow doesn't seem punishment enough.
