I'm with you, schplurg. I am typically against the death penalty, but these two cases are really testing me. Then again, death somehow doesn't seem punishment enough.
That's why my suggestions. I'm a Heinlein kind of guy on that - where the culprit used violence. (or a fairytale kind of guy - I was raised by pure luck on the real versions, not the cleaned up ones. The kind where the evil step-mother/sister was put naked in a nail studded barrel and rolled down a steep hill to the ocean/river.)
