Pardon me while I rant.

Nearly every news web site that I visit has a prominent "story" about John Karr, along with a picture of him.

Most of the stories tend to be about nothing especially newsworthy, and I am tired of looking at his ugly mug.

Should the story of this buffoon's arrest be covered by the news media? Of course. But as far as I can tell, there is nothing in the story that makes it worth the attention that it is receiving.

Then why rant about it?

I miss the days when a thread with "buffoon" in the title was almost certainly about Bush.

I had the same Denny's sausage link, back of the throat tingling nausea with all the slow-news-cycle coverage of Ray Nagin's verbal diarrhea.

Perhaps on slow news days we should instead seek to watch a situation comedy or two. Even a soap opera. Heck, a re-run of Hee-Haw would do.

Think about what you're bitching about for a sec.

Let's see, what else happened today ...?

... passenger jet crashes in Russia (possibly terrorist related?) killing 170.

... there are a few good men, but apparently too few, so Marines are going to be recalled to duty.

... Iran tries another diplomatic ploy, when the smart move would seem to be to stand pat.

... man wins Fields Medal and declines to accept it.

... Paramount Pictures ends relationship Tom Cruise's production company possibly because Cruise is bonkers.

... George W. Bush visits the Twin Cities in Minnesota (which went for Kerry in 2004), and the Republican House and Senate candidates go buddy-buddy with him, unafraid of any kiss of death he might inflict upon them.

And yet today, several "news" providers felt that the lead story throughout the entire day ought to be that a certain screwball was going to Colorado. CNN.com at one point ran a blood-red "Breaking News" banner reporting that he had made incriminating statements, a sensational allegation that didn't add all that much to the story and that the network later softened.

An hour of TV...

They're going to review 50 year old Tom & Jerry cartoons and remove smoking scenes.

Some nutty kids in Phoenix released two rattlesnakes in a theater for a showing of 'Snakes on a Plane'.

One of the talking heads on CNN was having a Doomsday chocolate cake and 'Sweet Jesus Pie' to celebrate the predicted end of the world today.

Two policemen were killed during a charity bike ride to raise money for police killed on duty.

And last, a segment on an alarming trend about rats and mice on airplanes.

TV just sucks.

If you're going to rant, do it properly.

I don't know. The National Enquirer has released some home video they bought of Karr sporting a mullet that can only be described as paranormal.

I saw a meta-discussion last night where the talkers were talking about all the talk about this guy in the media.

It's going to come out that he didn't do it. But that won't make the media embarassed for spending so much time on it leading up to that.

At least it beats the coverage of what Michael Jackson wore to court that day. "He's in pajamas! He's in pajamas!"

I look at this type of news as an indicator of how good life is. If the biggest national news story is about ONE murder somewhere 1,000 miles away from me, my life must be pretty worry free. My local economy must ge OK, crime must be pretty well under control, Washington is rolling smoothly, forest fires aren't gonna burn me out, plague won't bother me, if the worst news is that some pervert made a court appearance- that isn't even important to his own case overall.

And then, the news even starts to cover their own coverage.... No worries, Life is Good.
