Hovind : Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee - HAH!

How is this good news? Hovind is a douche-bag, no doubt, but how is it good that someone goes to jail for choosing to keep their hard earned dollar?
...with malice aforethought by clearly documented illegal methods over many years?

OK.... At least we know where you stand on that.

In the second place, we have creationists in the UK too, and where do you suppose they get their ideas from?

Sometimes it is very obvious --- at least in restrospect. I met a British fundie, and he told me a particularly stupid set of lies, and I never figured out why until I read about the First Amendment and the stupid ways in which your fundies try to get around it.

And then the penny dropped. My British fundie was trying to weasel his way aroung the First Amendment. But the British don't have a First Amendment, we have a state religion.

I talked to a guy the other day --- a JW --- who was concerned about the "banning of prayer in schools". In Britain, prayer in schools is compulsory. But my friend had been reading ... what ....Chick tracts?

British fundie nonsense is a copy --- a copy and paste ---of American fundie nonsense. The sources are in your great and free republic, and that's where, first and foremost, they must be fought.

ETA : Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee - HAH!
I'd like to add that I have discovered a small set of our own population here with exactly the same mindset. They are called "Answers In Genesis"...

Although even they have deliberately and publicly distanced themselves from people like Hovind in the past. Clearly they are only partially insane...

I hate taxes. However it's the law. I have to file and pay taxes.
I don't think anyone anywhere LIKES paying taxes - they seem to be a universally implemented necessary evil. But I agree - you can always work towards implementing other ways for your government to generate an income stream.

Agreed. I seriously despise people who break the law and then want sympathy for suffering the consequences of their actions.

Sorry, but if the local mall can get a restraining order against me for simply shopping in the nude...

We'll, I don't want to belabor the point. Pay your taxes.

And here I thought I was the only one with that problem. Welcome to the club, buddy. :)

This a**hole goes on about how he's angry that the government spends his "hard earn money" teaching evolution in schools. I hope he'll revise his tapes.

Does this mean it's possible that the IRS will become the owner of his theme park? This is surely a sign from God - God hates hovind.

What, like a compulsory jock-strap or something?

The bastards!

:)

Honestly, I'm going to splurge on a nice bottle of wine tonight to celebrate this positive legal news from Florida where a God-bothering shonk is dealt with properly. Not often that happens, but when it does, it's well worth celebrating!

Next, Jerry Falwell!

The local county want the illegally built structures on the property demolished, because he refused to get a $50 building permit. This includes the shop, museum, and a number of other "church" buildings. In short, all that will be left will be some children's playground equipment, and some bare ground.

I wonder if the local council has a clerk named Joshua... ;)

I am as happy as any one of us that Hovind is in hot water but I must demur from the general sense of this thread. I wish Hovind's @ss was in a sling because of his blatently false ideas which the law would find fraudulent, not because he is a tax jerk. Just like I wish many drug lords would be taken down for selling drugs to kids rather than evading tax laws on the resultant income.

OK, ok, end of idealistic rant.

I'll just add the "he's innocent until proved guilty" rider (at least in regards to the charges regarding his taxes).

I doubt he'll get jail time. I also suspect he will cut a deal with the IRS to pay the taxes.

Well, more accurately, his lawyer will cut the deal, not Kent personally. Kent will likely just be foaming and ranting around his now-bare Dinosaurland property like the lunatic he is.

I find it mildly ironic that he's being charged with the same thing that took Al Capone down. :)

Randfan,

I love your new sig line and bookmarked the website. The whole thing made GREAT reading - I'm glad we agree strongly on something. ;) I am surprised that Christian fundies don't point to the capability of earthworms and some reptiles to regenerate limbs as proof that God exists. Granted, it's a far cry from a human arm or leg, but . . . . :)

Teach the controversy! (The controversy, that is, of dishonest preachers and evangelists!) I hope he spends a good, long time in the pokey.

Now all we have to do is round up Ken Ham and Duane Gish, and we'll have put a significant dent in the nincompoop creationist problem!

ETA: Folks, file the damn return and pay your taxes. If you don't like it petition congress or move. I don't like it either but it is what it is.

As an aside I believe Americans have to pay US tax regardless of where they live in the world. Moving is not really an option. Well, maybe if you moved off-Earth!

(In space no one can hear you earn income) :D

I'll just add the "he's innocent until proved guilty" rider (at least in regards to the charges regarding his taxes).
And I will pledge to consider Hovind and his wife innocent of all 102 charges against them until proven guilty (but the trial should be a hoot).
