Limerick Purist Pronouns: He/Him
I should say that there is considerable doubt on /r/masseffect whether Dantics knows what the hell he's talking about.
Is what what who is saying? Is that what they're saying?
You should say that there is considerable doubt across the videogaming internet whether anyone involved with Bioware knows what the hell they're talking about, or have been talking about, for several years now.I should say that there is considerable doubt on /r/masseffect whether Dantics knows what the hell he's talking about.
This. Sorry for not being clearer:Is what what who is saying?
@arthwollipot , if the folks who made ME1 and ME2 said, "sorry about Andromeda, it wasn't really what we had in mind, give us another chance", I'd give them another chance. But when it's the folks who made Veilguard, and they're saying, "Veilguard was some of our best work, and it's not our fault nobody liked it, and we would have made a great ME4 if we'd had the chance", well. Fool me once, as they say.
Is that what they're saying?
It is a very accurate summary.I always liked Yahtzee's take on what EA does to game developers in his revie of Anthem. You only need to watch the first minute.
EA has been drunklenly buying and slashing companies long before they were bought by Saudis.
I see.This. Sorry for not being clearer:
From watching and participating in the posts on /r/masseffect for the whole of that decade, I truly believe that they were in the process of making a new Mass Effect game that was genuinely good. It could have revived the studio.Gaming industry commentator Legendary Drops on the real reason Bioware got shut down:
tl;dr/yt;dw - It's been a dying shadow of its former self for almost a decade. Its demise was inevitable, and this was a mercy killing.
"I have been losing my mind watching everyone act like we are losing something of value here."
I'm sure they could, but do they want to? Do they care? Can they sell the game to another studio? Might not be as good, but somebody like CD Projekt Red I could see maintaining the legacy.
Well if they're abandoning it anyway, it's income if nothing else.I'm sure they could, but do they want to? Do they care?
There's money in rewriting Star Wars. It's a good story. A tale as old as time, as they say. Bioware got shut down because they couldn't even do that anymore, at least not that anyone was willing to buy. Not for a decade.Eh, I liked Baldur's Gate, which was just medieval Star Wars. Then they made KOTOR, which was just, well, Star Wars. Then they made a Star Wars trilogy without lightsabers, and by that point I was kind of sick of it all.
My point is, when it comes to narrative-based gaming there are greater losses than a company that just wanted to rewrite Star Wars over and over again.
"Revived" is the red flag in this post. From watching and participating in the posts on /r/masseffect for the whole of that decade, I truly believe that they were in the process of making a new Mass Effect game that was genuinely good. It could have revived the studio.
The Save Mass Effect petition now has 258,142 signatures.
Who's "they"? Bioware doesn't own the Mass Effect IP. That would be EA (so now the Saudis). The owner probably has plans to hire some new game devs and maybe spin up a new studio to make a new game based on that IP.Can they sell the game to another studio? Might not be as good, but somebody like CD Projekt Red I could see maintaining the legacy.
Yeah I figured EA was implied. That makes sense.Who's "they"? Bioware doesn't own the Mass Effect IP. That would be EA (so now the Saudis). The owner probably has plans to hire some new game devs and maybe spin up a new studio to make a new game based on that IP.
Or they could still sell it, if they think it's worth more outside of their portfolio than in. But my guess is the Saudis bought EA for its IP, not for the game studios that somehow managed to ◊◊◊◊ that IP into a cocked hat over the past ten years.
And sometimes they bring them back from the dead. Konami finally remembered Suikoden after 20ish years then remastered two games and made an anime, and a new game is somewhere in production.game companies typically sit on ips forever
I have absolutely zero faith in this. It's possible that EA will just sell off Bioware assets for the cash, including the IP, but equally likely that they will just ignore them forever. The owner probably has plans to hire some new game devs and maybe spin up a new studio to make a new game based on that IP.
Very unlikely there is anything that could be sold apart from the IP and EA tends to be like Gollum about what it owns.I have absolutely zero faith in this.
