Merged Australian Politics / Australian election

being left wing doesn't make being an extremist magically okay.
In what way are the Greens "extremist"? The fact that they want to end military support to Israel? The fact that they want to stop the construction of new gas-fired power plants? The fact that they want to tax the top 1%? The fact that they want to end the housing crisis? Those aren't "extreme" positions. Those are low bars.

Liberals back to their even-handed, rational and winning best.

“Treasurer Chalmers should be dragged out of the House and stoned”

I think they are trying to lose, and lose badly.

They want to end military support to Ukraine. Huge red flag there.

Yes, like I said, I was pretty damn disappointed that they said that. Won't stop me voting for them, though.
Shoebridge has made it worse by warning Ukrainians not to over react and that the Greens are actually their friends. ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊

Yeah if you look at it, it was more a statement that Greens policy was to not participate in the international arms trade. This means not exporting weapons to Ukraine, but it also means not exporting weapons to Israel. However, it is also Greens policy to oppose Russia's invasion diplomatically and to support sanctions, so though it was very badly stated, it is not Greens policy to just throw Ukraine under the Russian bus, which is what some outlets have reported.

And what does this have to do with the politics of this issue? Ham fisted is too charitable. Incompetent is far better.

The Greens are masters at proclaiming their policies are beyond question, but they are barricades to stand behind while they refuse to compromise on, well, everything. Politics in the modern world is the art of compromise. The Greens refuse to accept this and will remain nothing but an irritant to serious governments, while shrouding themselves in faux purity.

Meanwhile more target practice at the foot.

Greens Senator Jordon Steele-John has taken leave from the partyroom following allegations of inappropriate comments made to women over almost a decade.
The Sydney Morning Herald broke the news on Thursday, following a letter sent by party members to Greens leader David Shoebridge.

The letter alleged that Mr Steele-John had made inappropriate comments to women from 2017 to 2025.

"These allegations all concern his behaviour in the presence of women," the letter, sent on Tuesday night, said.

"We are aware of multiple women who have taken up roles or volunteered in the party, who because of these allegations, have been warned not to … be alone with him."

Normally when a MP is absent a “pair” is enacted, where a member from the government abstaines during the absence. This is not set in concrete and I really hopes the government refuses a pair.

Without arms, how can people stop those who -- justly to me - laugh at pledges to support diplomacy and "our goal must always be peace!"?

the "conchies" have been and will be used as a fifth column by those with none of their qualms.

Never forget that Jordie took Albo to task over the torrettes "joke".

I 1000% agree, but, sadly, you have some posters here who will justify or excuse anything if it is done on the political left. And of course they vehemently deny that is what they are doing.

I have taken lots of heat here from sayiing that pure Pacifism is just plain stupid. You give over the world to its worst elements.
