Cont: The Russian Invasion of Ukraine part 9

It would hardly be the first time Trump has heard what he wanted to hear rather than what was actually said, when it comes to doing deals. Still, I'm sure Ukraine would genuinely welcome an energy ceasefire this Winter, if Russia will agree, which they didn't last time.

The trouble is, this is only what Trump wants until the midterms are over and done with. After that, he won't give a ◊◊◊◊. So there's next to no chance this will hold over the Winter even if Putin agrees for now.

These lunatics want Zelenskyy to ignore the law, override parliament, ignore the will of the people (nobody wants elections), and illegally call an obviously illegitmate election, putting citizens at risk.
Zelenskyy can also just step down — assuming there is no law against it. Then there will be a new president, presumably the former vice president. But I doubt that would satisfy Trump, because what he really wants is a Ukrainian surrender.

Just saying if it's not Ukraine it'll be someone else.

I'm not the biggest fan of James Hanson, but I have to say I'm pleased he deals with these callers the way he does, I can't believe some of my fellowships w countrymen (and women) are such lickspittle quislings.

I don't imagine Putin was any more aware than Zelensky was that Trump was about to tell the world they had both agreed to a ceasefire. But it only took Zelensky a matter of minutes to tell the press "First I've heard of it, but okay, so long as the other side agrees". Putin, not so much.

Zelensky says Ukraine supports 'energy ceasefire' announced by Trump, but Russia yet to comment

"We count on Russia's similar readiness and on the agreement of the President of the United States of America on this. We welcome such an agreement," he says.

"Ukraine has proposed many de-escalation steps. Putin said one thing to everything: it was his 'no'. We really hope that he will finally tell America, Ukraine and the whole world something different."

Zelensky says Ukrainian forces will continue to defend the country and that "we look forward to clear details of America's dialogue with Russia and for Putin to do what President Trump said".

Was he able to refrain from laughing while saying it ?
It's a nice way to twist the knife.

Putin absolutely will not allow himself to appear to be obeying instructions from Trump. If he responds at all it will have to be in his own time, seemingly for his own reasons, and with some or other kind of small contrarian twist in order to appear to be a different plan from Trump's plan.
