Asylum seekers should be housed in relatively self-contained areas while awaiting a determination. Let's make "Asylum Cities", they can have basic housing, cafeterias, convenience stores, heck even some entertainment. But controlled access, and they don't get to just wander at will through the US until they're cases are determined to be legitimate asylum. Once a legitimate asylum is determined, those families should be distributed pretty evenly throughout the entire US, not concentrated in grouped areas. Assimilation is important, and setting up ethnically homogenous clusters prevents that.

And that's the only metric we're using? Not cost? Not innocent human lives ended? Not how many American citizens have been picked up and terrorized? Not the impact it's having on our economy? Just that the border crossings are lower?

I don't understand how that makes America better when we're in the situation we're in. Prices are skyrocketing, but it ain't because of immigration, is it? Of COURSE people stop coming if you remove all meaningful reasons for anybody to ever want to live here. You might want to glance at the side effects, though. Kind of like turning a music venue into a pigsty because people kept trying to get in without paying. It absolutely does work for the stated function, but that doesn't mean that you've actually improved anything.
