Split Thread DEI in the US

i haven’t really followed this thread but i would assume hesgeth’s anti dei efforts in the military would have been covered extensively by people who have an interest in the topic. he mentions dei specifically and often in reference to his hiring, firing, and promotion decisions for example.

OK, against my better judgment, I'll bite.
A picture is worth a thousand words:
I'm afraid you'll still have to use a few words to explain what that pic is supposed to mean.

And then how whatever anecdote that is, is now somehow data :P

do you have an opinion on whether or not hegseth’s, who’s the guy in the picture btw, dei efforts have improved military performance?

in case you don’t know what i’m referring to, although like i said earlier without looking i’m sure this was discussed heavily earlier in the thread

Not sure what he has to do with hiring incompetent whites over competent blacks, since that's where this subthread started.

are you really not sure? he’s been demoting and removing women and minority leadership and replacing them with white men specifically citing dei as the driving factor. what part of that isn’t related to the topic?

Well, I've already said in the moderated thread that I disagree with Trump and Hegseth, but for better or worse the US military is basically a dictatorship, and doesn't have to obey most civilian rules. They even have their own laws, for Pete's sake. I mean the focus on DEI in the army also came by presidential decree by Biden. So it is what it is.

But the equity instead of equality thing affects all the almost 163 millions of jobs in the USA, not just the 1.33 million active service personnel. That's a 123 times disparity. And I'd really want to see any evidence that, say, a university systemically prefers incompetent whites over competent blacks, and how does one know who was actually the better fit.

I didn't know that you were one of the, at this point, fairly rare people who still think that Trump hires the best people, but now that it turns out that you are, it doesn't really surprise me.

No anecdote! They're both very real!
I couldn't have made them up if I tried.

i’m not familiar with the moderated thread.

but what it is is a good example to discuss. claims were made about dei, actions were taken based on those claims, and were they effective?

i don’t think you’ll find a better example of dei policy in action than the military imo it’s huge and well documented and has observable results

And, due to Trump and Whiskey Pete, examples of what happens when DEI policy is canceled.

Trump does dumb things all the time. It doesn't mean his delusions change how the whole civilian industry is doing their job interviews.

And that is exactly the problem. You extrapolate from about 0.75% of the jobs, which already have a legal exemption, to needing to force it onto the other 99.25% of the economy.

i’m not sure what you mean by legal exemption. and i didn’t extrapolate anything, i asked for your thoughts on what i think is a good example of the types of policy changes the anti dei crew advocated for and then enacted

I think you're going to get a long-winded post full of pseudo-scientific jargon and emojis.

I mean that literally the army runs by its own rules ans laws. Hence it has no more relevance to anyone else's rights and employment opportunities than the USSR had.

I think you meant "you are going to post", since that's inevitably what the "progressives" who trained in an echo chamber end up doing.

Today brings us an example of what happens when the anti-DEI crowd are so anti-DEI that, in their effort to hire anti-DEI flunkies, their hiring practices ignore competence altogether.

This being an international forum, it is possible that some here are not aware that, within the United States, American football is a much bigger deal than football as defined by the rest of the world, or that the National Football League is the professional apex of American football, or that the NFL's Super Bowl is the NFL's most hyped event.

The NFL season kicks off tonight (pun intended) with a rematch of the most recent Super Bowl.

Tonight's less important events include the Republican Trumpapalooza in Dallas, Texas.

It is now being reported that President Donald J Trump was absolutely furious when he learned that his prime-time address to that Trumpapalooza will be competing with the NFL's Super Bowl rematch. It seems the Trump flunkies who scheduled the Trumpapalooza were completely unaware of the NFL schedule.

And the NFL's second game of the new season is scheduled for tomorrow night, setting up a second prime-time contest between the NFL's drawing power and Trump's.
