You commit two errors of fact here, both of which fall under the logical fallacy of the false premise.

Arday was not a DEI hire. In the UK the term is EDI and does not mean what you believe it means. You have been told that employment discrimination on grounds of race, sex, sexuality, disability or religion is illegal in the UK (England & Wales, Scotland and N.I.) under the Equality Act 1997 (IIRC - might have been updated since) so stop lying that 'Arday was a DEI-hire'. Get rid of your elementary false premise.

Arday wasn't a Black African. He was a Black Englishman. He was born and raised in England. He was educated in English schools. Either way, tomorrow is a new day, and he can try gain. But McCauley? He can't afford to miss even once. He gets caught, he goes to prison. No going home and trying again the next day.

Now, Detective Hanna is a scumbag. He's a coke addict who poisons all of his personal relationships. He lives for the thrill of hunting down people like McCauley. But that doesn't change the fact that McCauley cannot afford to get caught by Hanna.

I admit I subscribe to a rather archaic and idealized view of the academic degrees.

An associate's degree means you have some basic association with the material.

A bachelor's degree means you know enough to support yourself in the field.

A master's degree means you have mastered the current state of the art.

A Philosophy Doctor's degree means that you have progressed beyond mastery of the current state of the art, and you are extending that with new discoveries and proven ideas.

For Arday to have received a PhD says to me that he was either a thought leader in the field of education, or that he had been propped up as a symbol, regardless of his lack of qualifications.
