Who should run for the Dems?

i wouldn't put supporting crypto investors in promises kept
Why not?
It's what they paid him to do!
Promises kept, broken and TBD: Defining Trump's first 100 days (Politico, April 29, 2025)
PROMISE: END THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT’S CRACKDOWN ON CRYPTOCURRENCY FIRMS AND INVESTORS

Make Bitcoin great again: Here's what Trump's backing of crypto could mean (BusinessStandard, Aug 6, 2024)
Trump’s courting of the crypto industry is almost certainly a political move. The Trump campaign has raised US$25 million (£19.6 million) from the sector since it started accepting cryptocurrency donations in May, and it is expected to receive even more following the event in Nashville.

because crypto is doing terrible and the clarity act is in limbo, you're looking at 2 year old articles

What exactly was Trump's winning message? Tell us more!!!
Was it ...
... ending inflation?
... immediately bringing down prices, starting on day one?
... capping credit card interest rates?
... ending the war in Ukraine, also on day one?
... being the president of peace?

The promises he kept were mainly the promises he had made to fascists, to Evangelical fundamentalists, and to his donors and bribers:
Pardoning Jan 6 rioters
Ending DEI
Ban on trans athletes
Tax cuts – but mainly for the rich
Drill, baby, drill
Supporting crypto investors
He won doesn't, I'm saying a winning message doesn't make you right.

That things would get better. You don't have to be a MAGAt to realize the draw of that message, even being the obvious lie it was. It was a campaign of populist change vs neoliberal status quo, sold to a nation already being ground under the wheels of late-stage capitalism. Of course the rubes bought it.

They ALL claim that 'things' will get better – if you elect them. If that were the draw, they should all win. I've never heard of candidates at American elections promising voters that if they elect them, 'things' will get worse.
You'll have to go with all American voters being rubes according to your own logic.

Joe Rogan Takes Aim at Democratic Socialists (Thom Hartmann Program, Aug 21, 2026 – 9:18 min.)
Joe Rogan said Wednesday that democratic socialists’ entire ideology “sucks” and accused those supporting the progressive movement of being “Marxists” fueled by what he described as manipulative social media rhetoric.

2:19–> And, you know, this is so weird.
How is it communism or even really socialism to say that we should have a minimum wage that a a a full-time person
working at can live on?
How is it communism to say everybody should have health care as a right?
How is it communism to say everybody should be able to go to college if they can do the work?
How is it communism to say that rich people should pay the damn fair share of taxes?
Come on, Joe. You're not that stupid. You can figure this stuff out.
I It's It's amazing. It appears increasingly that Rogan and Trump are on the same page. He's like, "Oh, if we have too much welfare, people will get lazy." No. You know, there's a zillion studies on this. People generally don't abuse welfare.

Mhm. It's easy for them, too, you can claim just about anything when you no longer have to deal with facts 😞. They could even make up problems like high inflation, when in reality inflation was at a near-ideal level. Heck, they even made up alternative meanings of words (like how tariffs are paid by the other country). How could they not have a winning message.

It looks like the mayor of Seattle might be able to start her presidential campaign pretty soon.
There's a recall effort underway; but there's really no one thing that people are pissed off about. Maybe surveillance cameras. There's a lot of buyer's remorse but then Seattle has always disliked its mayors. An incumbent hasn't won re-election since the early 2000s.

ETA: It's unlikely to happen; there are pretty strict regulations about recalls. It has to go past judicial review and "we just don't like her" isn't going to cut it.

I respectfully disagree. Mayor Rice was very popular.

I did say "might".

A good question!
Wow! Voters Deliver WAKE UP CALL in KEY ELECTIONS (MeidasTouch on YouTube, Aug 23, 2026 – 15 min.)
Progressive democrats are celebrating wins in nationwide primaries-including the huge upset that Florida senate candidate Angie Nixon pulled off against heavily funded establishment democrat-Alexander Vindman. Whether these candidates identify with the DSA branch of the party, Working Families Party, or just plain progressive-all of these candidates are united on a similar agenda-that leads with Medicare for All at the top of the list. So, why would Democratic Party Leadership come out in the primary season and squash support for an issue that a new poll shows 90% of their voters approve of? Suri Crowe speaks exclusively to two progressive candidates about what is going on with Democratic leadership and the direction of the party overall.

Hakeem Jeffries’ Betrayal Shows Why Democratic Voters Are So Enraged (The Lever, Aug 17, 2026)
House Dems’ leader declared his opposition to Medicare For All on the same day a new poll shows almost all Democratic voters support it.
They care only for the people who pay them, i.e. health insurance CEOs and/or AIPAC, not for the voters!
90% of the voters!!!

“Representative Hakeem Jeffries, Democrat of New York and the minority leader, met privately in recent weeks with Jared Kushner, President Trump’s son-in-law and top outside adviser, and discussed potential areas of common ground, according to five people with knowledge of the meeting.”

Jeffries and Kushner Meet Privately as Midterm Attacks Fly (NYT, Aug 23, 2026)
President Trump's son-in-law and the man in line to be speaker of a Democratic-led House discussed how Democrats and the administration could work together.

Der Siebenschläfer on bsky, Aug 23, 2026
so whoever leaked this to the Times wants us to know Kushner sees Jeffries as a mark…
The meeting came as nearly all polls revealed Republicans to be at a disadvantage in the midterms, and showed how members of Mr. Trump's inner circle were digesting what a Democratic majority next year could look like.Should that happen, Mr. Jeffries would be under intense pressure from progressives to use his power as a check on Mr. Trump, including through aggressive oversight.Mr. Kushner is frequently consulted by a number of Mr. Trump's advisers, and he has told people that if anything bipartisan is to get done with Congress, Mr. Jeffries is the most serious person among Democratic leaders. Ms. Wiles, he has said, is the most serious mside the West Wing.

We'll see about the judicial review. In the meantime, here's an interview with a pollster that talks about some recent shifts in public opinion:

It turns out there really is one thing that people are pissed off about.

So we'll find out on the 31st if it passes judicial review. After that, we'll know if she's likely to be available for a presidential run.

Available is one thing, seriously considering it is another. As unpopular as she is I don't think she's that delusional.

Hakeem Jeffries Betrays Democrats to Collaborate with Fascists ONCE AGAIN (The Humanist Report on YouTube, Aug 25, 2026 – 14:48 min.)
Hakeem Jeffries reportedly held a private meeting with Jared Kushner to find “common ground” on issues, according to a report by The New York Times. Democrats, however, fear Jeffries met with Kushner for more sinister reasons. In this video we’ll speculate about why they met and explain why it disqualifies Jeffries from being the next Speaker of the House.

7:45–>
Interviewer: Do you personally support Medicare for all? Do you personally support Medicare for all?
Hakeem Jeffries: No, I as you indicated, I haven't co-sponsored the Medicare for all legislation that has been introduced over the last several years. I do think we need to figure out how to fix our broken health care system and then build something better once we repair the damage that has been done.
8:31–>
Interviewer: Just to be very clear though, as a Democratic leader in the House, would you vote for or against Medicare for all?
Hakeem Jeffries: I think as you've uh indicated in your question to me, it's not legislation that I currently am co-sponsoring or that I support. Okay. But we do support the notion that we've got to find a path forward to fix our broken health care system and make health care affordable for every single American.
Mike Figueredo: You know, it kind of sounds like he's saying that he has 'concepts of a plan,'* which is really interesting because I feel like I've heard that before. I've heard this level of ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊ before, but you know, it's just hard to place who said something similar to what he just said. But if you'll notice, he won't just come out and say, "No, I don't support Medicare for all." He'll say, "Nope, real quick." And then move on, or he'll talk around it. But he actually believes that the peasants are stupid and small-minded enough to be satisfied with more subsidies.

How corporate PAC money gets to Democrats who swore it off (Spotlight PA, Aug 26, 2026)
“No American voter, if you ask them, ‘Do you want corporations to be able to give money, have more power?’ will say yes,” Lobo-Lewis said. “That extends to leadership PACs in the same way” as corporate PACs.
Political entities established by House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, House Democratic Whip Katherine Clark and House Democratic Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar are among the committees that have donated to “no corporate PAC money” candidates while receiving donations from corporations such as banking giant Barclays, pharmacy chain CVS and insurance company UnitedHealthcare this year. Jeffries, Clark and Aguilar did not respond to requests for comment from NOTUS.

Yale Study: Medicare for All Would Save Over 114,000 Lives and $1 Trillion a Year (Common Dreams, Aug 11, 2026)
“Do not tell me we cannot afford Medicare for All,” said Sen. Bernie Sanders.
“What we cannot afford is a broken healthcare system based on greed.”
