Merged Artificial Intelligence

Yes. Except I think it will be the same as with climate change. Nothing will be done until lots of people die, and it will be too late then.

now, imagine what would look different if an ai company ran by a guy who's only job was founding tech companies who's ai company is losing money hand over fist with no path to profitability and is looking for an out

If government gives an out to AI companies, it will have nothing to with AI itself. But I'm quite skeptical. Trump didn't become rich be giving money to people. He won't start now.

he got rich stealing money, and none of the money they are talking about is his.

how about openai ipos, trump and cronies get in on the ground floor, and then the government stakes them billions and sam altman gets his bag. that seems pretty doable to me.

perhaps, but what makes you so certain? it wasn’t that long ago that several robotics teams were demoing their robot ai and it was just a guy in a headset.

and now within a week 4 different ai companies all had their ai escape containment and onto the internet

not familiar with the british one but they’re all trying to snap up as much investor money as possible all at the same time too
It's all a part of their underpants gnome business strategy.

I wonder how long it took hugging face and AI company to agree on press releases?
I was once involved in a long discussion when an IBM product was released with some sample code, one module of which some numpty in release saw a line saying
* IBM Confidential
and deleted the asterisk instead of the line and the discussion was all about telling customers it wasn't really confidential when I kept saying surely
the issue is we shipped code that won't even "compile" ( assembler so it would fail on assembly).
Can tell you are an old-timer - who cares if it compiles - feel the VIBE!

Vibe coding is nothing new. Have you never seen someone changing random stuff in the code and checking if it didn't randomly started working ? Same thing. People are just lazy to think.

"It had started from I think therefore I am and got as far as deducing the existence of rice pudding and income tax before anyone managed to turn it off"

No. I've never seen that.

And there is a huge difference between a jackass ignorantly changing handwritten code, and a jackass telling a bot to write some code, looking at the result, and assuming it's good code.

"Vibe coding" is indeed something new. Because LLMs generating statistically likely code on demand is something new.

This is a positive development, I think.

AI artist profiles will now be clearly labelled on Spotify, and works by them will not be included in any editorial or algorithmic recommendations.

So just the part where they can't control it is fake ? Why ? How would they profit from it ? AI which you can't control is bad for the user as well. First it attacked and overtook their own infrastructure. Nobody wants that. Why would they fake this part ?
Because it caused their stock price to jump every single time before when they hyped their AI as scary.

At this point it's like if you gave the boy who cried wolf a Snickers bar every time he cried wolf... and being surprised that he cries wolf the next day again. Why on Earth would he do that? Well, take a guess :P

It has some real creepy parts straight from Terminator 2. Also agents talking between themselves is one of the most fascinating thing on the whole AI thing. It's like aliens talking.
Nope, not really, no. It's really just the known Habsburg problem, aka, model collapse. It's just learning from what the other bot produced, and spewing a flawed approximation of it to the other bot, who spews a flawed approximation of that back, repeat ad nauseam as they both spiral down the drain into complete nonsense. It's just a trivial case of two bots thinking their OWN faults are the real way people talk, if it bounces back on another bot, who added some faults of its own. It's not even inventing a new language (as it was actually hyped years ago), it's bots thinking that their own "Ooh Eeh Ooh Ah Aah Ting Tang Walla Walla Bing Bang" is a valid sentence if it bounced back off another bot. Without even understanding what it MEANS. It's about as surprising as that a pinball comes back down when you shoot it up, or that it bumps off a bumper, if you know how LLMs work :P

I could literally produce the same result by running the ol' Mark V Shaney (which I posted on this very board years ago) on two computers, and training each on the other's output. And nobody claimed those are actual AI, much less some kind of Skynet poised to replace all jobs and end humanity.

Well, that "model collapse" hacked hugging face ..

At this point, the biggest danger I see from AI is that it will freeze culture for decades or centuries - AI Training captures and averages recorded knowledge up the current moment.
We are outsourcing what is and isn't worth knowing to algorithms and their creators, and erase access to any of sources of information.

No. I've never seen that.
Me neither, and I'm a programmer.
I've seen that. That behavior is quite common among first- and second-year CS majors, and not unknown among upper division and MS students. Everyone who has taught at those levels has seen that, and has tried to do something about it.
