The behaviour of UK police officers.

This is a link to an article in The Times.

You don't like him. You disagree with him on a number of issues. You therefore conclude that he's lying. This seems a little unwarranted.

What's your opinion of the actions of the police, just on the off-chance that he's telling the truth?
Sigh.
That is again a restatement of Campbell's accusations.

That's appalling. Is there any explanation for why they were so relaxed about letting this monster go free time and time again? Or were they just too busy warning journalists not to investigate Jason Arday because they were upsetting him?

The explanations are surely known to you.

1 - the police, sadly, do mess up major investigations and miss opportunities to stop serious, serial criminals. They have also caught potential serial serious criminals, after their first crime. The standard of police officers the police are able to recruit, is lower than it should be. Too many over confident, arrogant, unintelligent people get into the police. I am amazed that the police do not mess up more often, especially when they are dealing with the most devious of people in our society.

2 - The reason why the police are too busy dealing with reports such as the complaint made by Arday, is because the public are more inclined to complain to the police about what they perceive as harassment. It was a crime that had been neglected and in response to that neglect, the police have become more responsive. But, for reasons I have provided above, about low intelligence police officers, sometimes they will overreact. Indeed, overreaction can become systemic, such as responding to complaints by ethnic minorities and how DEI training has skewed police response, as seen in the Digwa case.

3 - Cut backs, and the loss of many senior experienced police officers, due to retirement bulges and changes in the pension, has resulted in a perfect storm, of you are going to wait longer and the cop who finally attends, is more likely to be a beleaguered, inexperienced one, struggling to cope with the constant fear of a minor error being weaponsied against them, by either their colleagues or on YouTube or both. The conditions under which the police work, are now horrific, far worse than when I was in the job.

4 - Hanlon's Razor invariably applies in incidents like this. The police officer made a stupid mistake, advising the journalist to stop contacting the professor, but it would have been out of a genuine concern for an upset person, showing signs of mental health issues, who is from an ethnic minority background, so of course the cop feels they have to be sympathetic and side with them.

For anyone interested in a more factual account of the Campbell matter.

Campbell made a number of social media posts regarding the case of Brianna Ghey, a trans girl who was brutally murdered in 2023. These posts were, to be succinct, he called Ghey a "trans-identifying boy" a also stating "Human beings can't change sex. Being murdered doesn't alter that" and, after being called out in mis-gendering, "I'll call him what I... like, mate".

A trans activist, Lynsay Watson (who is trans) complained and eventually took a judicial review, which failed.
Recently after an additional complaint Campbell was questioned again by police. He claims they threatened a late night arrest, they deny this. No further action was taken against Campbell
Campbell is now complaining, and is supported by Toby Young's "Free Speech Union", part of a network of right-wing groups backed by the Kochs and revolving around Spiked.

Regarding the Simon Levy case;

"The Met, BTP and Crown Prosecution Service have all admitted failings in how they dealt with Levy, who was on bail as his attacks on women escalated to murder."

Yet;

"Two police officers are under investigation by the policing watchdog for misconduct"

I hope they are not being scapegoated for a mass failure by multiple people. I don't know any details about the Levy case, but I suspect what has happened, as with the Stephen Lawrence murder, is that mistakes were made at the start of the investigation, which then became a hot potato, so no one in authority in the police or CPS wanted much to do with it, so it got neglected and avoided, as it was seen as disaster prone. When investigation goes bad, no career minded police officer or CPS lawyer wants to be the one to carry the can and have their name attached to it.

When, from the start, an investigation goes well, no mistakes are made, evidence is not lost, enquires fall into place and join up, everyone is happy. If only all investigations could be like that.

...

Having read Campbell's article about his arrest and interview;

I had no reason to believe he was mis-describing events, as I have seen what he described happen when I was in the police and from the evidence he produces in the article, naming people involved and linking to tweets and photographs.

Brianna Ghey was a trans-identifying boy. That's a simple fact. Compelled speech is still compelled speech when it's a murder victim being discussed, and I applaud its resistance. Human beings can't change sex. That's a statement of reality.

Lynsay Watson is an ex-police officer - actually sacked from the police twice - whose hobby is waging lawfare against people he doesn't like. He has made literally hundreds of complaints about perfectly legal social media posts and the like, and more often than not his ex-colleagues are happy to act as his personal goon squad. He never wins, but he ties his victims up in legal processes, costing them money while he represents himself, at zero cost to him. It's his hobby. A process is underway to have him declared a vexatious litigant.

I have known Stuart for many years and while he affects an abrasive personality on social media, I have never known him deliberately lie about anything. He's a touchy bugger and we've had many run-ins about everything from the Gaelic language to electric cars. His worst fault is going completely quiet when shown to be wrong about something, rather than saying, sorry, I was mistaken. Lots of people around like that, very much including here.

Are you seriously claiming he invented the story about the police banging on his door at 2 am regarding a complaint about a months-old tweet, and yet the Times published it anyway?

I am coming to the conclusion that you aren't prepared to defend the behaviour of the police in this respect, but you can't bring yourself to condemn it because the victim is someone you don't like, therefore you retreat into baseless assertions of lying.

Well, exactly. Stuart isn't Jason Arday. There is no reason at all to disbelieve his account. The fact that his detractors prefer to brand him a fantasist rather than condemn the police behaviour is quite telling to me.

This piece of ◊◊◊◊ (real name Alex Horwood) stalked former police officer Harry Miller online for 18-months, calling him a woman- beater and a Nazi during, and referred to his free speech group "Fair Cop" as domestic terrorists. After a Police disciplinary hearing told him was told him to cease and desist with this conduct, he set up fake social media accounts to continue sending Miller derogatory and abusive messages. He was eventually dismissed for gross misconduct in October 2023. This guy is a vexatious litigant and serial nutcase. He has taken legal action against three police forces as well as the British Transport Police Federation, the Police Appeals Tribunal, the Ministry of Defence and several free speech campaigners..

Personal animus aside, what, specifically, is it that you have an issue with regarding Campbells telling of his side of the story?

That's an account of the second time he was dismissed from the police for gross misconduct. He was dismissed previously while he was still Alex Horwood, for an entirely different offence in relation to fighting or assaulting someone. I can't remember the details, but there's an article on Wings that has the whole story. He somehow managed to rejoin the police force after that, and proceeded as described. Somewhat shockingly, when he first started to harass Harry Miller online his superiors simply told him to stop doing it under his own name but to use pseudonyms.

This is the person "Protect The Dolls" Catsmate holds up as respectable and credible.

You're not going to get an answer to that. Catsmate believes that anyone who disagrees with his position that men can become women and that any man who says he's a woman is unquestionably in the right on any issue is not simply wrong but guilty of moral turpitude. Therefore, he doesn't need to justify his position, it is sufficient to point and say, this person doesn't believe men can turn into women, therefore he is obviously a liar.

Indeed. I think he is now on the "Barred List" making him ineligible to work in law enforcement.

I once watched Andrew Gold interview Harry Miller on "Heretics". The story he told about how Horwood/Watson was able to get away with what amounted to serial criminal harassment, and with the help of Leicestershire Police, was chilling.

But hey, he's she's trans, so inevitably in the right on any issue or dispute. Only a despicable person would argue with that!

For anyone interested in a factual account of the person Catsmate relies on, here is the story of the career of Alex Horwood, and his various vendettas.

But of course, Catsmate doesn't like Stuart, whose web site that is, because Stuart understands that men cannot turn into women. So he will declare it's all lies, and the trans-identifying man is practically an angel from heaven, like they all are.

You're lying again. Campbell is not a reliable narrator, as demonstrated by his previous behaviour. You don't accept this because of your shared opinions.

Please stop accusing me of lying. Stuart Campbell is a friend of mine, has been a friend for many years. We have differences of opinion, and he's a stubborn bugger, but I have never known him to tell a deliberate lie.

You disagree with one particular opinion of his, and because of that you seem to be insisting that his account of events which was actually printed by The Times is a fabrication. You don't want to accept what happened, for whatever reason - maybe because you’re a fan of the police, or maybe because you oppose anything that shows your trans idols in a poor light - so you throw around baseless allegations of lying, first at him, now at me.
You may not like Stuart’s opinions, but that doesn’t make him an unreliable narrator.

Are you really putting forward Alex Horwood (a.k.a. Lynsay Watson), twice dismissed from the police for gross misconduct, as an honest source for anything?

Nor do I, but it explains the last sentence that Matthew Best quoted; otherwise the impression is left that she was arrested because she complained.

Yes, it’s reasonable context. I think my first interpretation of that detail, that she had reported the rape a few days later and was then arrested for being in the location where the rape took place, was possibly/probably mistaken.

I've now found an archived copy of the Times article.

There is no denial of the facts by the police - the article simply says the police were contacted for comment. It would appear no response was received. Who's lying now?

So, going back over the "factual account" you give. What does any of that have to do with the current incident as described by Stuart? You wind back to his refusal to refer to a male murder victim using female pronouns, and his being somewhat rude to someone who took exception to this. That is all true, but has nothing to do with the recent incident. Horwood/Watson made a complaint to the police about this, and was told no offence had been committed. He didn't like that response so he applied for a judicial review of the police decision. The judge told him to take a running jump.

This is merely evidence of additional rounds in Horwood's perpetual campaign of judicial harassment against Stuart, who is one of his regular targets. 300 complaints to the police about people's tweets, and counting, and there are still police officers naive enough (or trans-captured enough) to do his bidding and harass people at his command. The process is the punishment, as they say.

Please indicate where in any of that you are finding evidence that Stuart is "not a reliable narrator", or that he may be presumed to be lying about anything without further inquiry. Please also indicate what it is about Lynsay Watson/Alex Horwood, twice dismissed by the police for gross misconduct, that leads you to believe every word he says.
