Ed Israel/US Attacks Iran /Yet Another Country/Iran

Q: You're on the Homeland Security committee. Are you getting any briefings on Iran?

RON JOHNSON: I'm watching on the news, quite honestly. I don't trust members of Congress, so I can understand why the commander in chief wouldn't either.

Tonight's bombing is cancelled

Donald J. Trump
@realDonald Trump
Based on the fact that discussions with the Islamic Republic of Iran have been brought to the highest level of Iranian leadership and approved, I have, as President of the United States of America, cancelled the scheduled strikes and bombings against Iran this evening.
Discussions and final points have been, in both concept and great detail, approved by all parties involved, including the United States, Israel, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Turkey, Pakistan, Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan, Egypt, and others.
The Naval Blockade will remain in full force and effect until this Transaction is finalized Time and place of the signing to be announced shortly.

DONALD J. TRUMP
PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

The odds are that this is another market manipulation tactic by Trump and we will soon see the Iranians disputing everything Trump said.

NEWS: A senior Israeli official tells Channel 12 they are not aware of any agreement. They don't seem to know what Trump is talking about in his latest post claiming a deal has been "approval" by the "highest level of Iranian leadership."

I'm not sure that's working any more.

Financial and commodity markets are shrugging off any statements or actions and proceeding on data and supply chains, not nonsense from Truth Social.

Q: You have said before the Iran and the US were close to a deal. It has not happened yet. Why are you so convinced that this time is different?

TRUMP: Because they've taken a pounding. They've taken a pounding like very few people could take. And they want to make a deal a lot more than I do.

Q: How confident are you there will be a signing this weekend? You've come close to sealing a deal with Iran before

TRUMP: It'll be soon. Maybe this weekend

Q: Has the Supreme Leader approved this deal?

TRUMP: I understand the answer is yes

Trump says the Iran deal signing ceremony will happen this weekend in Europe but "I won't be able to be there"

(the UFC fight at the White House is Sunday)

Sneaking oil out at night

Trump: "We've been taking out many ships that nobody knew. Not even the fake news knew it. Quietly at night. We bombed their radar and everything so they couldn't see. We took out night some nights 25 ships, some nights 15, the last four or five we did 25, 22, 21, 26, 18, and 14. Who else would remember those numbers? Nobody."

I think the fact that people here are arguing against Iran being the victor is in itself a pretty clear indicator that things have not gone very swimmingly for the USA... I mean you didn't hear such things after the attacks against Iraq and Afghanistan - no-one in their right mind could have argued that those countries would have somehow won. Now you can coherently make this very argument for Iran.
I don't see how you can possibly think Iran can "win". They can drag it out a long time, definitely. But "win"?
Anyway, to me it looks like a stalemate, Iran has the Hormuz closed and the USA is very reluctant to use the necessary force to open it, hence these endless "negotiations" - of which the leaked information looks rather positive for this (cut throat and barbaric) Iranian regime. So, well, if this is "winning" it's a very new kind of winning...
Would you rather the US used the force necessary?

It's very irritating to me. If the US is aggressive and uses the necessary force, we get criticized for it because people die. If the US holds back and continues to negotiate instead of just plain killing a bunch of people, we get criticized for being weak. There's no way out when the entire objective is to just ◊◊◊◊ on the US.

Donald has invited China to buy oil from the USA on a number of occasions.
China's threat to the US isn't military, it's economic. In particular, it's theft of intellectual property and the practice of stealing US (and European) products, copying them but made cheap and ◊◊◊◊◊◊, then selling them back at reduced rates in order to destroy US production. China's entire model is based on Walmart's predatory approach. Pair that with a ton of cyber espionage, identity theft, and propaganda.

China being put in a position where they need to buy stuff from the US is good for us. It reduces one area where they have a considerable amount of power.

The force necessary to achieve what? I would prefer the US had a plan, and carried it through.

I have no doubt the US military had a number of prepared plans, covering a range of scenarios, but Trump knew better because he's a genius in the art of the deal. All he had to do was follow Israel's lead in bombing the ◊◊◊◊ out of Iran and they would just surrender. And then they didn't. Bomb them some more and they'll surrender. Nope. Threaten to bomb them some more and they'll surrender. Oh. Well, tell their neighbours to invade Iran for him, and they'll agree to do it, and Iran will surrender. Not that either. Or...
