The cost of a transit ticket from from Penn Station in Manhattan to the venue, which is about 18 miles, are normally $12.90 (£9.50) for a return fare. The prices were then increased on match days to $150 (£111) but after complaints they were reduced to $98 (£73) while shuttle bus fares are down to $20 (£15) from $80 (£59). The justification from NJ governor was that they shouldn't subsidise travel for visitors. (Normally prices aren't increased for events and there is no record of increased prices being charged to non-NJ tax payers.) Most countries provide subsidised or free shuttle buses for the world cup, which was the original deal with the US.
